Tossing the Subaru WRX Back on the Dyno

A bit of an unplanned video today: I went back down to FIM Racing to pick up some E85 and tossed the 2023 Subaru WRX back on the dyno. Now we are not turning the car up or anything like that. We are just trying to see if the Dyno is any better than it was prior after doing some other calibrations before tossing the Turbo H6 Subaru STI back onto the rollers.

For comparison sake, my ‘22 with less mods than yours and e60 fuel made 362whp/402ft-lbs on a perfectly calibrated Mustang dyno, and 383whp/416ft-lbs on a Dynojet. It punches you in the back HARD at 3k rpm and freight trains to 6500rpm with no fall-off up top. Sending positive vibes for that shop! Hope the dyno issue is an easy fix.

They'll get it sorted, I don't mind letting em use the wrx as a test mule to check it 😅 The 23 definitely feels good and pulls well. I am curious to see how much power it actually makes 🔥 I've seen these things making great power

i cant wait to see what the real numbers are on the 23 WRX. I put just an ETS intake on my 22 WRX and im making 305 HP and 320 FPT on 93 octane. Its the only power bolt on i have put on so far, so I would expect your numbers to be equal or better with the pro tune.

I have had pilot transport highly recommended for long distance towing. I haven't used them myself, (thankfully, I haven't needed it personally) but I know folks that have. They say it works great, albeit they are a bit expensive. Just my $0.02.

This car should be pushing mid 300s on both whp/wtq on pump gas. JR over at Prime is getting these things damn near 400whp on pump gas, full bolt on. Touching 420-440 on e85. I know dynos are tools for tuning and numbers are nothing without back up track times but it's sucks to put all that work in to see such a low number.

Right now it's just teying to help them get the dyno sorted. From the good Ole butt dyno I'd day it's right in the 330-340- region. Thing picks up QUICK 🔥

man dyno is so fun but i get ptsd my last build was 10+ years ago and in that one 2 of my 4g63 engines were damaged during the dyno run. i want to take my subie to the dyno for tuning and stuff but i fear it will break 🫣

I think most up here all have mustangs, tbh I think they're cheaper than dyno jets. Plus most dyno jets need to be installed in ground where mustangs don't. I might be wrong on that

Arent dyno pulls typically done in 4th gear in the 6 speed wrx and sti's. 4th should be the 1:1 I've herd that can change dyno numbers. I haven't seen anyone do power pulls on a dyno in 3rd gear.

Future dynos I see having electrical motors for pre calibration and not having to dick around with guys getting inaccurate results other than making noise and some random possible numbers hp and tq numbers achieved. Future dynos 🙌🏽 calibrate the world 🙏🏽

What do you think about the 2024 wrx tr being 43k? Also the fact it has eyesight? Was just curious on your thoughts. I personally don't like the eyesight tech In a wrx and I feel 43k is overpriced for a wrx.

43K seems widely high, should be a trim.level between a premium and limited. Plus for the price there are so many other options you can get that out perform it

Eyesight is just NOT a bad addition. Im not sure why folks believe it is a drawback. And if you dont want it on, turn it off. Its a great system and isnt intrusive if you dont need it. Wheres the issue?

@Acrimoniousbear1 it can't he permanently turned off. You have to do it every time you start the car. The automatic braking is very bad. The eyesight us extremely sensitive and not any tech you would want in a sports car. Also it's an expensive feature as look at the 2024 prices and increases across the board when nothing has changed in the trim levels except the eyesight being added.

@@ranran2218 idk. I dont need it permanently off. I raced very regularly on course and it was perfectly fine to turn off safety modes prior to any particular heat. Even with racing on course twice a month im still driving to work more often and having safety modes help protect my investment monday - friday was completely invited. Also, when i DID drive with eyesight on a extended subie rental i was completely ok with it. I was more concerned with how dangerously slow the bottom trim motor option was on the outback. It was slow enuf to get you murdered. And lacked ANY passing power.

@Acrimoniousbear1 I have a 2021 forester sport also and the eyesight is annoying. It's my wife's car and she gets annoyed with it. The pre collision braking is sensitive and engages when I'm not really close to hitting a car. I have a slightly steep driveway and if I back straight out the reverse automatic braking engages violently because it thinks the ground is going to hit the car. It's just not needed in the wrx. Also the price increase is just making the wrx which use to be affordable not so much anymore. 2k price increase for eyesight basically on the base model.

Try not to stand behind the car during the dyno run. Any piece of gravel or rock can hurt you badly. I saw a TV shot through by a small rock at my local dyno 😀
