Awesome video! TA indeed is an irreplaceable gem! Most of us on the BAR dev team have those sweet memories of playing TA - which sparked something tremendously strong that probably is one of our main drives while building BAR. One of our main goals is to recapture that precious, unique gameplay, vibe and real epic feel, but upgrading that to current-day features. Thanks for mentioning us in your video! ♥ And yes! Chris Taylor is a king. We've had the honor to talk with him directly and that was an absolute peak in epic/awesomeness for us.

Glad you enjoyed it…BAR is awesome. I’ll bet some newer gamers feel about it the way I feel about TA.

My favorite game.... damn I wish they'd do a remake.

I was the only one I knew back in the day that said this was a better game than StarCraft. I stand by that. TA Forever!

Yes, I played my fair share of Starcraft, but TA was my favorite.

Well, I played this game a lot when I first installed it in 2000 (two CD's came out with CD-Action, a Polish magazine about games and computers, very popular in Poland back then). It was my first experience with RTS and I was 7 years old. I often come back to this game (played it today for about 2 hours) and it never gets old.

My brother and I haven't found anything that comes close to the perfection of the original TA. Some of my fondest memories were of setting up a LAN and playing this all day long with buddies.

It was an absolute pleasure. My neighbour kid had it, and I was infected. So same week I guess I biked 15 km to the city and 15 km back to buy it for like 25 euro's I guess. It was great. And a coworker was talking to someone else about it, so I played it again last weeks, just the normal compaign :)

For me it was Homeworld. The game that really got me into gaming. Great story, great gameplay, and fantastic online multiplayer experience.

Good news for you. I have a much longer video on Homeworld coming. May 10th.

Not only played it in 1997 it was my first RTS, for years after I played it I felt limited by every other RTS iI tried. Yes including the bigger commercial classics like Ages of Empires or Starcraft. Total Annihilation just felt more immersive, more free and less "gamey" than all other RTS games. Ofcourse the modding scene made this feeling even stronger. The first RTS I actually liked after TA was Warzone 2100 which ofcourse was influenced by TA. I recently played TA again for the first time in years and it still holds up quite well. In some ways it feels clunky interface wise but in other ways it is also a timeless game. Most other beloved games of my childhood now clearly have been surpassed in terms of gameplay enjoyment. TA however is still super fun to play now.

Hah, Warzone 2100 is also one of the first later games that impressed me. I haven't played that one in ages though, maybe I'll revisit it on the channel soon.

My main PC broke and I desperately tried to play on small maps with my replacement 90MHz PC. I think i have the big box still somewhere.

It's a shame more games don't adapt the same projectile physics as was in this game. Controlling hills mattered a lot. Metal veins were natural objectives. There really isn't anything quite like it.

I played in 1997. This piece focuses on the technical aspect, but I played TA primarily for its gameplay, though the two are linked obviously. I remember when SC came out and I thought, what is this simplistic crap? SC probably worked better on multiple levels, but SC wasn't cool. TA was cool.

I tried playing this game back in the day but my poor PC couldn't handle it very well so I didn't play it too much. PS: it's a shame that Kingdoms was such a massive letdown.
