Super information-dense review and coverage of game mechanics - very well done! I've found that modders have come to the rescue in filling in most the gaps you've mentioned but outside of that this was a great watch. Thanks!

Glad that you enjoyed it! If there are any total conversion mods at the moment, I may take a look at them for a future mod review.

having played thousands of hours of total war (mostly warhammer3) I have found the campaign aspect of pharaoh total war just so complex and amazing so far
@Brutik54 ай бұрын
I personally love that Pharoah avoids focus on overly buffing units via skills/techs. I am sure you can find some strong combination of gods and techs, but you have to try to make OP army.

You can get quite the upkeep reduction with Aten as well as for replenishment rate, but that will take a full favored Aten with the right combinations. It also only applies to your dedicated generals.

I recently picked up this game as my first total war game ever and it’s incredibly beautiful. Although I’m interested in the time period, I found myself underwhelmed with the battles and mechanics. I still wanted to give total war a chance because I love the idea behind it. I picked up Warhammer 3 and I can safely say that it has managed to capture and hold my interest far more than Pharaoh has. I’m planning to go back to Pharaoh again one day but WH3 seems to be a far more engaging experience for me.

Yeah, the battles are definitely the weakest part in Pharaoh, although the campaign mechanics are very fun to play around with. Warhammer 3 definitely has a more interesting battle system especially with the wide array of races and units to play with. Are you currently playing a campaign?

Worth playing: Yes if it is free or very very cheap. Worth buying with full price : Sure not.

Thanks for the review game would be much more tempting if it wasn't in all likelihood being abandoned

Agreed. I didn't really touch upon it, but it seems to just be bug fixes from here on out. To be fair, I don't believe the amount of content is the issue. It's more on the battle system, but I believe that the issue lies with the engine that is almost two decades old at this point.

I started playing this just a few days ago and I love it. It's a great change from WH3. I like that the movement range is GIGANTIC and the outposts system that make your movement even more gigantic. I freaking hated how long it took to move around in wh3. I also love how the AR is heavily favored in the AI which means they are more likely to attack / fight you. Also even when the AR is slightly in your favor, they still will wanna dance. Another thing is they dont seem to do the cat and mouse thing in wh3 where their unit just fkn keeps raiding your shit, you attack it and it runs away and constantly keeps running like an annoying little bastard. Here if you catch them you can just kill them. Like the barter system too. I think I like this game more than wh3. Conquering large lands is also more satisfying in this game. In WH3 it feels so tedious building up your provinces as they are all the same and juts generate gold. Here there are some differences, different resources and you still have to trade for the ones you are missing. It actually feels like I am conquering the towns that I need, like gold producing towns and with outpost i can actually defend my newly conquered land. Others buildings actually give me thiings i need like legitimacy or favour with gods
@Powerhouse110 күн бұрын
Yeah there definitely is allot more to the civic game here than in Warhammer 3. The barter system is a huge reason for that.

Great review. I enjoyed Pharaoh even before Dynasties (I bought it when The High Tide update arrived). The Dynasties campaign can feel a bit tedious due you having to trade constantly. I enjoy the battles but I am still annoyed that chariots feel like a wet noodle, but maybe there are mods to fix it.

At this point of time I would kill for Empire 2 or Medieval 3. Can't muster much interest for Pharaoh even when it's -50% currently.

For me, it's the best Total War. The interface has been renewed and is at its best. It's an excellent fusion of Troy-Throne of Britannia. If you don't like the era (or the starting theme, like me) it's still worth playing

All the Total War games made after Medieval 2 are unplayable on normal & cheap computers so I no longer bother, as the graphics are excruciatingly poor & mechanics even worse.

I think these maps look really bad, particularly the siege maps as mentioned. It's 2024, I'd like to see more. How about some obstacles, animations, deformations, terrain, etc. Especially on the walls and gates. Look at the siege animations @4:45 it's so obviously bad...There's a dozen different things that could bring up the immersion level. I didn't get Thrones of Britania, nor Troy, and I won't buy this either. Been playing since 2006. Shout out to Medieval 2. Looks like this game.
