Too all the people who hated this game… it undoubtedly runs the best, has AMAZING siege’s, Stunning sound design. Like no joke the war cry’s and victory chants get my blood pumping. And il say it…one of the best campaigns. People forget it was supposed to be CA experimenting with smaller titles and some overreacted and shot it dead in the water because they were salty over Atilla. By far not the best. But a solid title.

derbonuspool The start date of 878 is the date of the battle of Ethandun (Edington) which is the point when Alfred managed to drive the Danes from Wessex. The majority of Mercia is controlled by Danes and the rest is not yet under Alfreds control.

Damo2690 Lothian and the borders are still part of Northumbria at this point in theory anyway although how much control was exerted is debatable. To the west is the diminished kingdom of Strathclyde which had been ravaged by the viking Óláfr around 870 including the capture of their King Artgal mac Dumnagual.

Mostly weapon and armor inaccuracies, which is the main trouble of most "historical" media set in this time period, like Vikings, or The Last Kingdom. I don't mind slight foregoing of details, but at 00:38 theres a number of anachronistic weapons and armor shown, not the least of which is what is clearly a greatsword (the earliest greatswords were roughly 400 years after the viking age). I see also a few Barbuta helms, which were a 15th to 16th century helmet, albeit inspired by the classical greek helmets from before and during the roman empire. Also none of the shields have a center boss, which almost all shields of that time would have had. Theres a number of other inaccurate details, again mostly with weapons and armor, and this trailer makes it looks like it will be a fantasy retelling of the events of this time period. I get that this is probably just early concept art, but the accuracy is low for a Total War game

They couldn't have picked a better era for it, when the Norse, the Anglo-Saxons and the Celts were fighting for dominance of the island fortress. You know what would be great. A Total War game except with you on the shoes of Alfred and the other kings themselves, an RPG experience in which you would fight and order your men yourself rather than the eagle-eye mechanic usually seen in Total War. People will definitely buy that kind of game.

RS0h7 Thank you for pointing out the irrational bitching that I was referring to in my sarcasm :D A new fantasy/historical release does not take anything away from the other. As what CA has stated before, they have a number of dev teams working on both. I just don't understand why people get their panties in a bunch when one dev team makes new content. IMO, new content for your favored genre will be released regardless of the other's new content :) They are independent of each other bro!

Theres one little historic mistake in this trailer. Alfred himself actually wasnt a strong warrior who fought in battles. He was more the brain behind the entire defense of wessex

What? He was a fierce warrior as shown by his great victories at Ashdown, Edington and Chippingham. He did not excessively pursue the war against the Vikings as he took it very slow and made sure his reclaimed territories were well-fortified and he modernised and centralised the whole Kingdom but he still managed to reclaim most of England despite his original unfavourable position.

odds are the average peasant wasnt that brutal. people tend to confuse 'Vikings' with the commonfolk, being a Viking is more like a profession or a summer job. if you go raiding, in the eyes of norse culture you're a viking.

Yeah I know im talking about Vikings the warriors not the people I know that the scandinavian people were traders,explorers and pretty nice people some of them atleast. But Vikings as the raiders were so brutal and great warriors. Now they are pretty peaceful but I hear that the warriors are still pretty good at winter warfare atleast but not many of them.
