Absolutely baffling that they would remove such an essential system from multiplayer. Actually insane. Oh and it broke the workshop so thanks for that...

Seen reports that the mod launcher is broken as well. Funny how they dropped this update on their last good game right as they announced a new project, totally a coincidence that. Have they ever given ANY reason why these old chat boxes had to go? Funny still how the "improved" Tokugawa/Hattori Kisho Ninja are still objectively worse despite it taking an entire 2 minutes to alter some numbers to fix that, the Ikko Ikki Warrior Nuns don't work, and so many other completely beyond trivial things that could be fixed in just 20 minutes total but they erased.

​@Skyler Slack You just need to revert to older update so it can download mod manager then you launch the game select mods to apply in it then exit game and update to current version and your mods will work. All mod manager does is puts files into data folder 6oy don't need it afterwords😉

Yep that seems to be the case. Thanks for the info. I wish they said that clearly in their patch notes and were more transparent they are complying with a law instead of making these changes years ago when they had the chance to and knew that it was an issue or needed to revamp or monitor things more closely.

BUT...I am yet too see a bill which says that mod managers need to go too. I suppose we just wait for a third party mod launcher which are inherently superior too CAs ones. My guesses (but I could be wrong of course), is that removing the chat functionality entirely is an easier fix to handle one of the following: A) To not have to fix some security vulnerability that was discovered in their older titles around chat text entry. B) To sunset and shut down some services so they can then save on infrastructure costs from (minimal as it may be).

This 'security vulnerability' malarkey is all we are hearing. Let me tell you, I have been using Word 2003 and Photoshop CS2 (which the University I work for declines to install for 'security vulnerability), I play ten-fifteen year old games, my browsers are legacy through and through, and I have been using all kinds of supposedly vulnerable stuff for years, and I have not had an attack come through once. One reason, I suspect, is that antivirus and other defence software do a moderately solid work for basic protection against blanket attacks. The other, in the more targeted circumstances, is, that an attacker with probably seek to target not me playing an antiquated game, but the person who is playing some new, ultra-buggy piece of excrement. Why? Because (a) it is so full of bugs and stability issues, that you could pull an elephant through,... and his sister, and (b) because some young, dumb, and full-a-you-know-what is more eager than a premature ejaculation to to buy that thing before any patches and fixes increase its security.

They pretty much broke modded coop campaign with this since you and friend need to load the mods in the exact same order to even be able to join eachother's game. As far as i know, CA had to intentionally remove the Mod Manager from the game's files and couldn't just "forget" to add it. The update essentially broke the Steam Workshop, isn't there some kind of Steam rule so that the company HAS to keep the Workshop running as long as it is compatible with the game? Again, they removed the Mod Manager, is not like it wouldn't work anymore, the mods that i had been playing before the "update" are still working.

Can you do a benchmark of the old version and this version with the Core utilization displayed so we can see if its actually doing multicore correctly and what kind of performance difference we can actually expect. It's a big deal for me since my 2016 pc still struggles to keep a good framerate in full stack vs full stack battles.

It just pisses me off that while it does improve performance, it removes essential features and create so many damn bugs. TED doesn't work. That means no custom battle maps that can be created. The modmanager doesn't work (has been removed entirely). That means you can't load automatically mods in your game and can't upload any mods to the workshop. And or one reason or another, the battle map radar map is bugged. Texture glitches are more prevalent to happen in your game. Like really CA?!

Yes but it seems so, I think there are some fixes that work for managing mods the mods that are loaded still work for you but if you want to change or add new ones I think you need to do it manually without the mod manager or revert to the old version or follow a guide someone made.

I really hope they value the history they've made with the classic Shogun series. Either that or rebuild it better than ever. Give it a true remaster update like they did for Rome 2. If not then a new game for the same territory with new graphics and better development on the old mechanics.

Unless everything really has devolved into seeking a cash grab, failing, then downsizing. Maybe there are underlying policies to procedure as well for servers? Companies with adequate communication and trust in their player base are thriving amidst the landscape of the mainstream gaming industry free-fall as of late. Does anyone else have this problem?(ill write this here since maybe somebody has the same issue) When launching the game i have no mod manager that used to show up before. So I download Kadrins mod manager and manually add mods to the data folder, i use moddb mods since workshop doesnt work. Even then mods dont activate in game (top right corner in menu still says "modded"). I notice that i dont have a user.script file so I create one. I add all the mods to the text file and still they dont appear in game. Im starting to run out of options and its frustrating. (EDIT) The game deletes the user.script file after launching, what the hell

So they announce a new Total war game, then within like 48 hours they "update" one of their best titles that simply removes one of the most crucial aspects of the game? People are saying it's cause of some new law in UK that says game chats must be filtered to protect kids or some bs but howabout just pull game support in the UK? If a country wants to make laws that in-effect result in everyone else getting features stripped away from them, then Total war just needs to say sorry UK and ban the country from accessing multiplayer. Try uninstall reinstall? Verify game files. Revert to version: Pre Linux 2022 if you are using mods. Hope this helps~

anyone know a way I can play this on Steam without updating it? Even if I can't play multiplayer, I spent ages getting my singleplayer mod order right and I don't want to have to start from fucking scratch, seriously.

You can revert to the previous version on steam I think it’s something like Linex 2022 I’d have to double check but I know some have had success playing it with mods doing that option.

Yeah I heard about that which I don’t know why they didn’t say that in the patch notes but this game has had this chat for years it’s always been an issue why wait so long to update it. Also they should add their new chat systems to their older titles if they’re going to revamp it for newer titles.

To kill off the multiplayer and the interest in Shogun 2, so they can finally take an axe to it's servers. (They do *all of this* : In the vain hopes, that more people will buy their new shite games and stop playing the old ones by removing features in'em. Although if Shogun II is so popular, I'm wondering why they're not just surfing on it and making either a remake or a 3rd entry rather than just trying to kill it. Or maybe that's the idea, slowly killing the second one because they're planning a 3rd one and are not confident in their capacity of making a better title, fearing people would just go back to the 2 instead. Video game companies are so slimy nowadays that this kind of plan really wouldn't even surprise me.

@@Niitroxyde Because fundamentally (while I can point the finger with various reasons as to why here) The main one and commonly reoccurring theme with CA, is what I like to call: "Greedily Out of Touch" To summarize: CA almost suffers similarly, from what does Paradox does (however slightly lesser, admittedly. I haven't seen CA do atleast 100 DLCs for a single game, *yet*). But to be in-depth about the concept; Implements shitty (sometimes broken, half-baked features. That sometimes completely fuck the game in more ways than one here, which half of the time; no one also even asks for in the first place. While removing beloved features), does heavy anti-buyer/player practices. (Paywalling ((sometimes already made)) Features as Dlcs ((or recycling the same game with a slight different texture and skin)), inserts shitty DRM into games ((sometimes not even telling anyone; like in the case of the rome TW remaster)) and making the games even harder to mod by making certain files use their proprietary in-studio non-public software. ((A good example would be any file that has to do with sound)) ) But if I were to be honest and also completely in my opinion: Shogun 2 was an accidental, unplanned master-piece alongside FOTS. ((They Never really was/were meant to still be this popular)) It's probably why CA, hates the IP specifically so much (as they do). Because people hold it to be the exemplar standard ((or precedent)), as what the modern games ((like it)) should be or aspire to be like ((or should've been or have aspired to be like, in the case of prior modern games before it: like Empire, Napoleon and especially like of Rome 2)) . And they _absolutely, hate that_ to be reminded of the fact. (Not to also mention and to add further salt to this wound: The first ((and in my Personal opinion)) masterpiece out of the modern games, was also the first IP of total war that they ever did) To spell it out, bluntly; it is also a mixed: "out of a spiteful matter of pride" and a "over-inflated, washed up dillusion".

Yeah Shogun 2 had it at one point but it got hacked and bugged out I think or something where someone permanently made themselves #1. So now that achievement on steam is impassible to get lol. I wish they would implement an ELO system

Being a military commander is one of the oldest competitive disciplines in human history, and Total War being the closest thing to a true simulator of that discipline, it's just baffling to me that CA does not capitalize on that primal instinct of their players.

The chat was previously removed from wh2 as well. They stated that it was because they found a security risk tied to the way it worked Saying it is because CA wants to make their old titles worse just seems conspiratorial to me

Why not then say its tied to a security risk in the post then also they removed Warhammer 2 before this change why not remove them all at the same time? Again, they could be more transparent when it comes to these things. Ultimately, they should overhaul the chats immediately after the removal of them.

@@TripleZHacker They did say that when they removed the wh2 chat. They said they would be removing it from older games eventually. I could have sworn they said it was a security issue but I couldn't find that specifically. I did find a blogpost where they said it was a safety issue in that the chats lacked any type of monitoring to avoid harassment and abuse. Regardless I think it is completely fair to call the decision stupid or lazy, but I think it is off the mark to call it malicious

@@novakaizr Fair enough the problem is those chats have existed since the game was made I wish they were concerned about this much earlier. Sure I don’t know CA’s intentions and that’s why I said it “seemed” hopefully they can be more transparent and add restore chat features that can monitor those things etc. Still this change should’ve happened years ago.
