I think CA actually made the "romance of the three kingdoms" mode specifically so you would have an easier time writing the characters in your NLP, with all the traits and whatnot

Given how little was written about Zheng Jiang, Dylan would have plenty of freedom in characterizing her and it would be fun to see the character Dylan crafted go to blows with the more established characters in the course of liberating China (however Dylan chooses to interpret the Outlaw factions' start campaign button saying "China must be liberated").

I think it's pretty good, similar to Shogun 2 levels of quality. That said, I think the yellow turban DLC is basically nothing, YTs are just like regular factions but with fewer options, so unless you're getting it for free, I wouldn't worry about getting it.

Goodness the UI for this game is a jarring departure from the old UI. Not sure how I feel about that... or the game in general from the plethora of reviews I've watched. Guess I'll hold off and wait and enjoy it via this. By the way allegedly you can toggle off the 'ghost' unit portraits and have it show actual rendered models of the unit rather than make you go 'What manner of ghosts am I using at the moment?' though I'm not sure if thats in yet. Who knows! Might be worth a look, might only be in full release build.

I hope for the future narrative series you don't do any of the big names in the game(like cao cao and such) and there are many "minor" major characters that you could play as that I feel could make a good story. You could do Cong Rong, the bandit lords, and some of the governors

haven't really played enough for a full review, but it's pretty decent I'd say, a return to form after the Rome 2 --> Thrones of Britannia era. Although many of the same issues with those games are still here, since it's fundamentally very similar to Attila.

I had no idea you ened up stricking that juicy deal with CA Devin ! Good news. I fin Total War LP to be much more enjoyable when they are abrieged, so I was really looking forward to your content. By the way, what can you say about the game so far ? Would you recommend it ?( If you are in danger, blink twice !) What about performances ? Does it run well ? Seems like it from your videos at least.

I honestly think it's pretty good, had fun playing it, which I wouldn't say for Rome 2 or Attila. Reminds me of Shogun 2 in terms of the effort and thought put into it. I'm running it on Medium/High settings on a 5 year old machine, seems to do fine, although load times are very long, as usual for TW. Default graphics had an awful sharpening filter on them, and were too dark, but both can be changed in the options. Keep in mind of course that I didn't pay for it, so I can't really say if it's worth it. I imagine it will end up being rammed with big-profit-margin DLC so will become less worth its total price over time. The Yellow Turban DLC is a nearly negligible amount of content, so can be safely ignored I'd say.

The UI is quite packed. At first glance, it seems very overwhelming and "stuffed". It looks hard to navigate at least. What are your thoughts so far?

I think the 'commandary' UI is too messy, needed to be much bigger to fit all the stuff they wanted to show on there, and make it more clear which region the slots are in. Diplomacy UI looks like a nightmare realm, but I haven't really used it at all so can't if it all makes sense in the end. Most other stuff seems fine, although several icons and key numbers like food supply are almost hidden, despite being more important than a lot of the stuff on display. I like the black ink-blot style, because it reminds me of Frostpunk :D

Probably the most basic battles of the series (apart from presentation), and a campaign map that has the simplest economy but counters with a way more complex diplomatic system. If past trends are anything to go by, the base game will be on sale once the first wave of DLCs appears, and waiting might pay off in the form of patches and free updates etc., so just hold off if you aren't sure, I say.

Yeah, perhaps it's the more artistic UI or something, but it does come across as being more complicated than previous entries. I think Shogun 2 remains the gold standard for a mix of clarity and complexity in TW's presentation.

God this is dull to watch, no because of your commentary, it's perfect as ever, but rather because of the game itself. While it looks good, the battle are so dull. I'm a big fan of the animations for units, even if you rarely see them, it just gives a feeling of chaos and randomness when two units are engaged in combat. I can't explain why.

It's because they wanted to improve performance for the warhammer games, animations were very much simplified. Can't really go back on that now, since the FPS jump for having no/minimal animation is extreme.
