There's actually some good lore for the Border Princes. The best way to represent them would be as a bunch of 1-province minors of various nationalities (Imperial, Bretonnian, Tilean, Vampire, Dwarf, and maybe a High Elf). They could have a mechanic where they unite when someone declares war on them, but otherwise they squabble and fight each other. (That mechanic wouldn't be super lore accurate, but it would keep the BPs from being quickly eaten up by other factions, which would be even less lore accurate).
@richardround20717 жыл бұрын
Kingtot it's part of the appeal of warhammer for me. It has lots of high fantasy elements, like dwarfs, high elves, magic, undead, but then there is lore which is just real world parallel, like the crusades, the Holy Roman Empire, Italian city states, etc, yet everything fits together.

I, sure araby isnt a DLC Faction, because arbay is have nearly nothing to say in warhammer (Games Workshop). There only exist a bit lore, not more. The havnt even some units in the tabletop game. Its the first time for most warhammer fans to hear about them.
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Grothgerek Norsca never had an army in any form, and it got into the game. Araby had an army 11 years ago in Warmaster. If Norsca made it in as a playable, fleshed-out faction, why not Araby? Also, just because the lore didn't talk about them much doesn't mean they aren't an important nation in the Warhammer World. Araby is a cultured and powerful civilization. They have close trade ties to the Lizardmen and High Elves, and have interacted with Skaven in the past. It makes sense fluff-wise for them to get involved in the struggle for the Vortex.

I think that as a faction it's almost completely necessary to be present. Geographically it would make all the more sense putting southlands in a flavourful state. I'm a bit fearful for the units, but otherwise they'll make a very wholesome and down to earth faction, as you said. As for the campaign, seeing as the two LLs as we know them are quite magical based, I'd say either something along the lines of a magical item easter-egg hunt, going far across the map for trinkets of importance might be a better way for them to go as far as the main campaign, for the Vortex campaign however, I don't feel like it can go any further than "Not the destruction of the world! all my things are there!". Ideally though; I want my elephants, I want my lore of sand, I want my Arabyan prince and princesses. And I want them to be one of the comfiest campaigns going.

Also, the chief manager of upcoming DLC's said something about the Crusaders that they don't belong there in one of his interviews for Tomb Kings. Furthermore, they announced 4 LL pack that is a little while away, so I bet they can do Tilea and Araby both having 2 LL each and finally the whole Errantry War will have strong meaning as well as all Araby contained events ( weapons, trade goods ) and lastly the introduction of Sartosa into Mortal Empires

Their lore should really get a rework in the new warhammer old world. I think it was just a bit of wishful thinking on how the author wished the crusades had went in real life. In real life even, in the 9 or so crusades there were alliances, trades, and even marriage between both sides, not just warfare. In the first crusade some places were indifferent to the crusades, as those lands had recently been conquered by the Seljuk Turks so it was just paying tribute to a new group of nobility than before. There is even a story about how Muslims prayed with templars in a chapel, and that the templars were polite to him. The unit roster is intriguing but I doubt if they will make it into the game.

Really? What does Albion have to offer then? What even is Albion? Does it actually have a roster? Any impact? Is it just like Nippon with next to absolutely nothing known about it until it got completely obliterated during The End Times?

Kyragem Albion is more or less a more civilized version of Norsca, Nippon is literally Japan with all its demon (yokai) hunting armies, shinobi ninjas, best humanitarian disciplines of martial prowess and archery. So its not next to absolutely nothing.
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Kyragem We actually know a good deal about Albion. It's a swampy, misty island with a magical fog around it that makes getting there difficult. Lots of large, magical Waystones (think Stonehenge) dot the island, and they help channel the winds of magic into the Great Vortex. Without Albion, the Vortex wouldn't have worked and Chaos would've consumed the world. The island is very mysterious to the people of the Old World. Albion's populated by humans who are essentially ancient Celts a la Rome 2. They're led by druids, spellcasters who safeguard the island and the Waystones from invaders. The druids can also call upon Fen Beasts, giant swamp elementals of great power. Albion is also home to large and powerful giants, some of which have a cyclopian eye. The largest giant of Albion, Bologs, and another giant are currently running around the Old World along with a druid. They were taken to Tilea by Curious Gesar after Gesar's failed invasion of Albion (an obvious reference to Julius Ceasar's failed invasion of Britannia). When Gesar was assassinated, the giants and druid broke free and now offer their services as a Regiment of Renown. Recently a group of druids has turned traitor and are conspiring to conquer Albion. Chased off by their former kin, they travel the Old World trying to convince rulers to attack Albion with their armies. You can even get an event in-game where one of them asks you to support them. The Ineptgeneral made a great video about Albion. You should check it out. :)

They did pull a lot of units from more obscure lore sources to make some Norscan units(Were-kin and Fimir warriors). Honestly since both Araby and Kislev got a Warmaster list (an expansion for WHFB) I think it's highly possible to see these two factions as DLC. Would also be convenient for adding a human faction with each Total War Warhammer title. Warhammer 2 can get Araby as the human faction. Warhammer 3 can get Kislev as the human faction since Warhammer 3 will be Chaos focused and Kislev is always the first on the Chaos warpath.

There may be a way to add them as a kind of naval game play element. If your faction is working sea ports and coast lines for extra loot them adding Cathy, Nippon and Ind as sea ports with a small hinterland And limited army lists of re- skinned units. Would work. you take the port and they counter attack. They may also show up on your shores as horde armies poking the west for vulnerabilities. I proposed a way to put them in against both the Ogers and Kislev in a battle for the silk road. Its also a shame we don't have South lands army lists for African type Humans (hinted at but never done properly), The Lost Isles of Elithis (I'm an Australian). I have army lists for both in the works but a lore book is more than lore and units. I need illustrators.

I would also like them to have a unique trading good spices and perfumes only available in araby. Gosh I hope they make them unique but also function not to differently from bretonnia or the empire since they are after all just human. I am going to love playing Araby. I really like minor factions, and the idea of giving the Major players, and esspecialy the dark elves a hard time as the arabians really just tickles me pink. They have been at it for thousands of years and are pretty sure the fate of the world rests in their hands once the High Elves are gone, when all of the sudden a load of desert dwelling human spice traders show up to turn the tide, and piss in their cereal. Also, REALLY hoping that we will see a light cav faction with this one. Maybe it will persuade CA to get in gear and revamp the elven light cav as well in response. The driving faith of Araby seems to be modeled after Zoroastrianism rather than Islam. They were also a roughly monotheistic, and the name of the God in Araby is one of the names of Ahura Mazda, the God of zoroastrianism. Since the rest of the details are kept rather vague this seems very probable to me. In Warhammer the Arabians didn't spend hundreds of years ravaging the Old World like the Islamic caliphates did to Europe, so the dynamic is going to be a lot difrent between them and the Empire/Bretonnia. Kind of like to see a united humanity, or something close to it here, and nothing brings people together like massive invasions of Chaos, Undead and Orks. Another thing I am really hoping to avoid here, is Araby becoming a speed bump for the Tomb Kings, which I think is in some danger of happening. The Arabians have always been pointed towards the sea and towards trade, rather than inland and towards tomb raiding, so the two factions don't really have as much incentive to fight one another as their close proximity would sugest. I for one and hoping that the Great Desert will act as a barrier and Tomb Kings will sort of be naturally drawn up into the Northern Badlands, or Southern Jungles, while Araby will be more encouraged to cross the seas and stick to the coastlines of the difrent continents. P.S. Rocs should be analogous to Terrorgheists, rather than dragons. There is also a giant flaming Griffon called a Simurgh in Persian myth which is as strong as a Dragon. Hoping we might get to see them somewhere in here.

I'd dare to guess that we'll get the Amazons as well. A lot of those ruins in Lustria could be perfect starting positions for them
@sarblader7 жыл бұрын
Lol, Araby is already a far dream, considering that GW NEVER gave a shit about it, Amazons are pretty much impossible.
@GlamdringandOrcrist7 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter if Games Workshop didn't give a shit about them. It only matters if Creative Assembly does
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Sarblade Araby had an army and models in the game Warmaster. Amazons didn't. Based on this, we're way more likely to get Araby than Amazons.
@GlamdringandOrcrist7 жыл бұрын
1Korlash That's why I think the Amazons will be the third faction released. Indy and Sparty used the fan made army book that Mathias Eliasson made for Araby to draw inspiration for this. He's made a bunch of them, including one for the Amazons. CA could draw inspiration from them as well.

Actually, IIRC Estalia does not rely on mercenaries for its military - Tilea is. Estalia is meant to be medieval Spain, Tilea - renaissance Italy.
@jean-barbe73407 жыл бұрын
Exactly. People often tend to mix up Tilea and Estalia, but they really don't work the same way. The Dogs of War army book mostly talked about Tilea's mercenaries, not estalians (except maybe Pirazzo lost legion? I'm not even sure).
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Boyan Penev We don't actually know enough about Estalia to say whether or not it relies heavily on mercenaries. They've just never had much focus on them, and we really don't know how they fight. My best guess would be that the Estalian cities field 1500s tercio-style troops, while the mountain tribes that are mentioned in the fluff can provide almogaver-style light infantry and jinete light cavalry. I'm not sure about Estalia's heavy cavalry, but they do have at least one native knightly order there. They probably use mercenaries too, since the Spanish relied on them a lot during the Renaissance to bulk out their armies. I think they have an inquisition, so that can also provide units and a hero or two. Again, this is all pure speculation. As much as I'd love some Warhammer Spanish and Portuguese to be in the game, most Estalian "lore" floating around out there is actually fan-made, so there isn't much canon material to build an army with. We actually know more about Cathayan armies than Estalian ones. Make sure whatever info you find about Estalia comes from a verifyable GW source. (Also, Estalia never had an army in any Warhammer game to my knowledge, so any army books or lists you'll find are all fanmade.)
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
JeanPierreXV Review We don't know if Fernado Pirazzo (yes, that is the official spelling) and his troops were Estalian or Tilean. In the lore, they were dispatched to Lustria by the Tilean city of Tobaro, which borders Estalia in the west, so they could be a mix of both nationalities (plus Imperials and whoever else signed up for the expedition). Pirazzo's name is definitely more Spanish than Italian, but he's described as training his troops in the Tilean way of fighting (pikes & crossbows). This means that, whatever his background, he likely honed his skills as a mercenary in Tilea. Other than that we don't know enough to say anything about if they're Estalian.

Hey, I've been watching your videos for along time now. I'm really interested in your lore videos and was hoping one day you could expand them over to age of sigmar. I know it might not be a popular topic but I feel like it has a lot clever transitions from the original fantasy lore. Thanks if you read this!

I think the Arabians could have a goal of their own for the Great Vortex. If you consider the Djinn, you could make it a goal for them to control the Vortex in order to control the elements and thus summon and control more djinn, perhaps an army large enough to control the world seas.

The best Vortex Mechanic would be the one for the Tomb Kings though. The only faction that competes with itself. Settra and the other Tomb Kings, fighting to use the Vortex as a way to attain true immortality. As was promised ages ago. Arkhan and his minions, fighting to use the Vortex for one purpose only, the resurrection of Nagash. Would be very interesting. As depending on the faction you play, your goals for the Vortex Campaign would be different. Tomb Kings would be the only race that would have internal conflict and different objectives on their quest for the Vortex.

Second time I watched this video! Love your guys work. But just an add on idea for units. Araby would also have gun powder weapons, those that can even be considered "equal" to Dwarve guns. Another KZbin video went in real depth of Araby fire arms. And two units they highlighted was their great cannons and Pirate skirmishers. Interesting units. Their great cannon is like three times the size of a standard empire cannon, and requires a whole crew to man it. They also have corsairs who hide behind sand dunes waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And when they do it's too late for their victims because they cut them down with percussion musket fire.

Hey Indy! Great video once again. Had a question in regards to game 3. How do you think they're going to make the final game in the trilogy appealing? I feel like with the remaining factions (Chaos Dwarfs, Ogres, Chaos demons etc.) it seems as though it's going to be extremely hard to achieve the hype factor that comes along with being able to play as the iconic factions that are in game 2. Interested in hearing your thoughts!

Null and Void Cathay would be great. Imagine vast armies of disciplined Chinese soldiers, backed up by terra cotta warriors, agile monkey warriors and their wily king, powerful wizards that can steal magic from Tzeentch, temple dog/lion satues that come to life, and great, golden, serpentine dragons soaring over the endless ranks of troops ready to fight and die for the Dragon Emperor, who may or may not be a dragon in human form. The Kurgans would also be great. Chaos Mongols. Need I say more? They're just as important to the Warriors of Chaos as the Norscans, and are even more feared by the Empire.
@giannipinotto41937 жыл бұрын
They can probably add other minor factions. Like vampire bloodlines , kislev, hobgoblins , albion ecc. .. (even a military expedition from a difficult faction like cathay ). Since the map of game 3 , will be darklands and northen wastelands.

Null and Void its not just chaos daemons. Theyre gonna have unique factions for each of the chaos gods which will likely be our four starting factions. Chaos dwarfs, ogres, etc will probably be dlc. If thats not your thing thats cool but im super hyped for that
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Isaac Delgass I hope they're not the only starting factions. That would feel really lazy, considering that they're already splitting a single army into 4 (which I support because it's fluffy and thematic, but still).

last time I checked Estalia borders Bretonia, why would you ever need to go through Tilea first?
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Rexxar_Nor You don't. Jaffar just attacked Tobaro because he thought it would be easy pickings. (Maybe the Skaven advised him to do it because they wanted to soften the city up so they could take it.) However, the Tilean inhabitants and mercenaries defended the sea walls so tenaciously that the Arabians couldn't even land troops on the plains outside of the city. Eventually, the Arabians withdrew. It was the first defeat they'd suffered since their invasion began, and was the start of Jaffar's fall from power.

According to the fan-made army book for Araby, the god of the Arabyans is called "Ormazd", or simply "The One". I can't find any official sources using this name, but among the early editions of the game the Arabyan god was called "Allah". It's really jarring that GW didn't invent another name back then. Even calling the god "Al-ilah" would have been a better decision. Also, having Araby follow a monotheistic religion makes them really odd in the Warhammer world given that we, the readers, know that there ACTUALLY exists many gods in the setting. This makes Araby really not fit in the world. If they had a religion which favoured one god out of many gods, similar to the Empire, it wouldn't have been a problem. Pre-Islam Arabic gods would have been a very interesting source of inspiration to invent a fictional Arabyan religion. (Personally I find the old polytheistic Arabian faith, and the ancient culture, very interesting.) It seems GW deliberately avoided this subject so that they wouldn't have to deal the inconsistent lore. If CA do make Araby a DLC race, they have to invent much of the lore themselves to fill in the blanks and patch up the inconsistencies. And that may pose legal IP problems with GW, and they have to come to some kind of agreement.
@1Korlash7 жыл бұрын
Kopesh88 GW's given CA the green light to explore factions that the fluff mostly ignored due to the game's success, so it shouldn't be a problem. Heck, GW might even lend them its fluff department to help out.
