Howdy. Someone I met on WoW has a Warhammer themed Dwarf only guild, and he recommended Warhammer lore to me, so I went searching. I googled and I searched KZbin, and I stumbled upon this video. It was very informative, gave me a lot of insight into the Dwarf culture and society, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. After posting this comment, I will go on and watch your other videos on the subject. I hope your channel grows substantially. Rock on.

I love the Dawi. I love that they are held to a high esteem in Warhammer. It always rubbed me the wrong way how they were kinda played off like bumbling fools in the LOTR and Hobbit movies.

SO glad the lore is finally back! Just as a suggestion for when you're all done with the dwarfs maybe do the Wood Elves? Not only because they're one of my all time favourite factions but because I think it could be a super cool segway with them both being on eachothers "nemesis" lists so to speak. Absolutely love your lore videos and keep it up man!

in warhammer2 the dawi have beard armor on some of their grudge thrower crew, probably so their beards don't get stuck in the ropes!

How do dawi grow grain if they are always bellow ground? You need sunlight for it. Also do they eat meat and what animals do they keep? I imagine it's hard to keep sheeps underground.

The main part of their cities is underground, but every hold has exterior zones with farms and things like that, where they grow plants and feed their goats. Also, it is known that their beer is so nutritious that they can live during weeks drinking it and eating only dwarf bread, a "bread" made of rocks and some other things I can't remember good now. But a human would break his teeth if he would try to eat it, so the other things aren't very edible neither hahahahaha

@@Treblo28 Fun fact: you can live off of just beer in real life and as a human. Your calorie intake will be high enough. The real issue is vitamin deficiency. Longterm alcoholics can suffer brain damage due to this (Korsakow-Syndrome) as they increase the amount of alcohol they drink due to their addiction and start lowering the intake of actual food as they don't feel hungry, since they already have sated their hunger with alcoholic beverages.

Going to call _Elgraz_ on the idea that there's 9:1 male to female ratio (and I've never heard it even expressed as being this high! most I've ever heard was 1:4 or 1:3). There's just no way a society that vengeful and prone to violence could be sustained with that level of sexual disparity. Male dwarfs would inevitably go roaming in search of other holds with the potentially higher female to male ratio, or settle down with human women. The idea that grouchy vengeful warriors would _share_ women is preposterous as well. I looked for any information and I've heard no official statement that there are human-dwarf hybrids or human-elf hybrids, however in the novel Hammers of Ulric there is a reference to one of the soldier's having "dwarf ancestry". Now this perhaps been retconned, but still in every other fantasy setting there are halfbreeds it wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility for it to work with humans and dwarfs esepcially given runes, magik and chaos mutations being a thing (think beastmen). Even so, without it, dwarfs would still go out and find human women as companions (or even Elves). Since this piratically never happens and Dwafs feel content to stay and protect their holds this means there must be a decent chance of actually getting a mate for the average Dawi, not just Thanes, Kings and Brewers. With massive attrition of male dwarfs vs insignificant if not zero military or accidental deaths of females this makes the ratio make even less sense. In order to fix this lore there's 2 ways I see around this. Either the birth Ratio is closer to 60% to 40% females, or perhaps it is 50/50 but Dwarf women die far more than human women do in child birth. And maybe that's why women have to wait so long to get married and have children to ensure their bodies have a high chance of being able to produce offspring. And older females are more valuable because they are good breeders. On the other hand female Dawi only give the appearance of being extremely rare because they are so well protected and hidden that no one ever sees them, perhaps even low ranking males don't even see them.

I just had a quick look through the old WHFRP1e supplement Dwarfs: Stone and Steel(published 2002), and it makes no mention of any extreme ratios between male and female births, so I'm just as lost on where that 9:1 figure comes from, I'm also lost kn where the 3:1-4:1 figures come from. I'm going to go look through Grudgelore(Black Library dwarf lore book) and see what I can see, maybe the answer lies there?

So, I probably should not have given the 9 to 1 ratio as the source I pulled it from was not official, but after reading many of the novels, Rins are exceedingly rare and no they are not shared. Which is why there are an abundance of men to do the fighting and other various activities. And yes the point is that their society is not sustainable as is. The chaos dwarfs give us some insight in that they have figured out a way to increase their population through dark means. Which does insinuate their are low birth rates and few women to go around in regular dawi society.

@@username12120 Hell if I know. I just remember "hearing" something like 4:1. My whole point is not about the ACCURACY of his video to the lore, I'm just talking about head canon and practicality. I mean... come on, no society with what are basically just really tough and stubborn humans can function with that level of disparity. Maybe if it was 9 females to every 1 male, maybe.

@@jumbothick2984 And I totally understand that that's what GW was going for. Few females (or at least they're rare) so that's why you mostly only ever see males, and maybe why their so motivated and protective of their females. And yes, a lack of females would mean a society is in decline, but that implies at some point there WERE an abundance of them. So I like the concept of female dwarfs being rare or at least a rare sight, but I reject that there could possibly be such a disparity. If nothing else but for my own head-canon. I love your channel all the same Jumbo!

I know right. But, unfortunately vampires are completely dead and therefore can not conceive at least naturally. Perhaps magically, but traditionally they just consider the people they turn as their spawn.

When it comes down to dwarven steel, there is not comparisons, none I cal tell you, sure the elves have their enchanted forges and the fire giants have their great magmatic furnaces, but dwarven steel my friends forged by the hands of a master runesmiths on their elemental, primal forges and anvils, is nothing short of miracles made flesh, or in this case metal, Dwarves do not use magic, they have no use for it, but they can channel the raw primal power of the elements and arcane into the metals weaving them during the forging and hammering them in place on their anvils, all done by master runesmith, but the metal at its core is were things get interesting, while not all dwarven metal works have a natural magical infused alloyed, the metals used in their weapons and armor are the result of an amalgamation of volcanic mineral being fused together, this is the reason why dwarven-steel never seem to rust, nor lose its edge, but things get even better when actual enchanted alloyed is used along with their runes, I have seen runic axes cut down a giant, a shield taking a spell blast from soccer or armor that can withstand illusions and temptations of demons,

Dwarves don't use magic... because they can't use magic. They just can't do. If they tried, they wouldn't be able to create a single spark. Even the chaos Dwarves, who are basically a different species, slowly turn to stone from using magic. Also, Rune Smiths are not channeling primal energy, they're channeling Chaos. All magic in Warhammer is Chaos, even if it doesn't come from the dark gods.

Despite being very interested in Warhammer lore, good narration, i just couldn't listen untill the end. I'm sorry but the music is horrible. Why even add music? 30 seconds loop for à 40 minutes video. I understand that it can be for ambiance purposes but here it's so loud and distracting. The content is amazing but that music, uugh...
