Classic Mini Restoration

And Here you will be able to follow my classic mini restoration from start to finish! It is an Austin Mini Mayfair 998cc registered in 1986. I bought the car with 2 months MOT and it was running although the slave cylinder had gone. My plans for the car are to restore it to my standards just like my Orange one if not even better... if thats possible. More videos on the way of the classic mini so be sure to subscribe and keep up to date.

Even tho it took 5hours it was worth the watch lol should do full version. Was quite funny. Bit like me changing exhaust clip for Renault magane mr2 in the snow. And your right dave@jaguar good builder my old man would loved watching him as was jag man... rip ted2jags

looking good tom.. i hate fussing with the fuel tank on my mini.. had it out twice for the taillight install and new fuel tank filler rubber.. dreading to do it again for the sportspack arches

Paul P is a great guy and amazing fabricator. Wish I had seen your video about the captive engine mounts, tried them a couple of weeks ago on a build and they were cr@p. Ended up fitting normal ones.

Another good video Tom! I once upon a time put those captive engine mounts on Huwe (the now project) and didnt have an issue with them, but after reading of other peoples experiences I will be putting normal ones back on when it comes to reassembling!

Your N/S/F inner driveshaft is not fully inserted in the diff - Sure you probably know but just in case you didnt

Hi mate Those exhaust y price clamps need to be 2/3mm from the end of the flange and use a smear of exhaust sealant

While you have the y piece off just check down inside each pipe, look to see that the forming of the pipes hasnt created a ridge of weld, some pipes do have it and a few minutes with a half round file makes for a better fit.

You got any tips on getting that tank in? If I tighten mine up it stops the boot from closing , so the tank isn't in properly but I don't know what I'm doing wrong

Swearing..... More Swearing... Slapping the car up! its a pain mate! youd be better with a ratchet strap in my opinion haha! i cant for the life ofg me get the strap to sit correct on the tank !

cheers mate! you can buy something called a slider but then super expensive so I do in in the editing software, not as good as the real thing but still helps haha!

Total Car Reviews i’d of though its I.D would be half that! Even the big bores are only around 1.8”! My GT4 is running a 3” exhaust and you could fit the mini exhaust in it serval times over!!!

1.75” is the common diameter for the A series so i imagine it would be around that size if it’s a rc40?

Alan Dixon on my orange mini I had a 3 inch link pink to a 3 inch centre exit I think I got My wires crossed with this it’s actually 2.5 inch 👌🏻

Who ever invented those captive NUTS wants hung up by their own 😝 Absolutely rubbish, I experienced the same problem and had to swop them with engine in situ.... then still had to take Engine out due to another problem 🤨 Oh why do we bother with them 🙄 A block of wood on the end of the Y piece and hit it with a 6 pound hammer sorts out doing any damage to the end of the pipe bye the way 🤞
