Uni Knot VS. Improved Clinch Knot (Fishing Knot Strength Test)

We test the breaking strength of both fishing knots, then we put the knots head to head to see which knot is the best. It pays to know your knot strength! All strength contests were done with 25 pound monofilament fishing line. Our goal is to fish smart by using the strongest fishing knot possible.

Great job tvank you for using a test methodology that is controlled and repeatable I recently switched from two knots I used for over 30 years as I realized they were prone to burning the line unless I exercised extreme care while cinching which had become very difficult for me due to my eye sight changed (astigmatism) recently and I can not see my knots without glasses anymore I love the Uni knot because I can tighten it 90%+ down with absolute zero chance of heat damaging the line. My own outhouse breaking strength tests showed my Uni Knot achieved over 98% of line strength every time. I tested 8, 10, 12 and 15lb Yo-Zuri co-polymer the only non braided line I use. Very very good work

I’d be interested in seeing how the knots respond when submerged in water. First, that’s how they arw used. Second but most important, there are specific stress points on every know, and those create heat. How would they bahave when some of that heat is dissipated by water.

My opinion after a lifetime of fishing. 1. If your using line heavier than 15lb test any major knot is fine. Look elsewhere if you are breaking off fish. Don't believe me? Take a ten pound weight tie it to the end of the line and try and lift it off the ground? Its a real eye opener. Old line more than a month or two old , abrasion, gil covers etc have more to do with it.
