Clive Burr is murdering those drums. The most underrated drummer in rock/metal history.
@MrWalkingguy4 жыл бұрын
For me, Maiden is best with Clive Burr. Nothing wrong with Nicko, just my preference.
@Meeshrick4 жыл бұрын
Clive Burr was more of a Metal drummer. Nicko is probably technically better but Nicko is more a Jazz player. Someone did a video on KZbin that mashes up a bunch of Maiden songs with Nicko playing and it's the same beat in every verse of every song kick drum, snare, ride cymbal...then there is the big fills occasionally. Clive was a powerhouse. Much more hi hat more fills. I think Steve Harris wanted someone less flashy so Harris wouldn't be drowned out. Cause if you notice everytime Nicko has a big drum fill it's in a spot when Harris' bass note is ringing out like iafter the solos in Poweslave or it's and intro to a song.
@j2oaks4 жыл бұрын
@@Meeshrick Nicko is technically better and that's why he was brought in. Just like Bruce was technically better than Paul. Steve's goal was always to shift the band in a progressive direction so every time someone left (got fired), he upgraded in a way to achieve that goal. The entire dynamic changed and we get songs like Where Eagles Dare, To Tame A Land, The Trooper, Revelations etc. I love Clive too, but no way I'd want to hear his renditions of Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Face In the Sand, The Clansman and so on and so forth, because those songs don't suit him. Saying Nicko sounds the same in every song is rubbish. Many songs are vastly different from one another. He often plays the same groove at times to the galloping bass which is predominant in Maiden songs. He's probably not gonna play a different beat to that same galloping bass in each song, is he?
@philsswweightlossdiary29444 жыл бұрын
RGC509 - Nicko is way more flashy than Clive. Clive was a phenomenal drummer but listen to each of their versions of Hallowed. I love them both but I do think Nicko was just a better fit for what Maiden developed into. I’d like to see that video you mention because Nicko had his signature moves but, especially during the 80s, his drum tracks were anything but identical.

'Phantom of the Opera' is *the* Iron Maiden anthem. It's got everything that defines Maiden. The twin guitars, Arry's lightning fast bass, the lyrics based on Gaston Leroux's 1910 novel 'Le fantôme de l'opéra', Di'Anno's raw and agile vocal lines, and Clive Burr's jaw-dropping precision drumming. And I like Bruce, Nicko and Janick, but I have to say this particular line-up beats all the previous and later ones. Up the Irons.
