think you meant to match up that part of megadeth "return to hangar" with the part that happens at 9:40 in "seventh son"(timestamp for this reaction video) never noticed that before but what i did notice was if you listen to "the prophecy" from this same album at 2:23 the rhythm guitar behind the solo is the same as the solo in "hanger 18" which, interestingly, also starts at 2:23 i think its safe to say that mustaine was inspired by this album considering this

Really good ear. There was definitely inspiration even if they aren't identical. "The Prophecy" backing rhythm goes "D5 - Eb5 - G5 - D5" while the backing in "Hangar 18" is an arpeggiation that goes "F5 - G5 - F5 - E5". Very different but similar sounding.

Wow, great analysis. I went to middle school and high school in the 90's. Surrounded by hordes of alternative rock, grunge and hip-hop fans, I was a lone voice in the wilderness declaring the greatness of Iron Maiden. It's really interesting to see how so many people, especially younger people, are discovering them now. Catching Maiden on the radio used to be like a UFO sighting when I was growing up, it was enough to drive me into a furor in those rare instances that it was played. I loved your thoughtful description of what makes this song work and why Maiden is so good and it was great to see the enthusiasm of a (relatively) new fan. Up the Irons!

Your responses give me so much hope. These early maiden songs are what those of us growing up in the late 80's early 90's latched on to. Everything about them is just so flexible. The music doesn't care who you are. It just flexes it's muscles for all of us and lets us fill in the blank and enjoy it.

It's funny you call this one "early Maiden". I get what you're saying though since it was the late 80's, and they were still pretty much in their prime. Mom claims the lady talked (in tongues, if I'm not misremembering) the fire out of her blistered legs, and that said blisters peeled off like a common sunburn the next day revealing normal pink skin underneath. I have no idea as to the accuracy of her account, but I can tell you that she believes it absolutely.

They played Phantom of the Opera off the first album and I said "How are they going to top that?" Next song was this. I just stared at the stage, unblinking, in shock before screaming "No. Fucking. Way!" They had a huge model of Eddie at a table writing in a book with two giant candles with flames erupting out of them. It was unreal. Edit: Looked it up because it was bugging me. 2012 it was.
