Another masterpiece from The Crimson Idol is "The Great Misconceptions of Me". The whole album is a masterpiece, but that is the finale. "The Horror" is inspired by the Colonel Kurtz character in "Apocalypse Now", played by Marlon Brando. A must-see Vietnam War movie, if you've never seen it. Blackie is one of the unique voices in metal, very underrated for his singing. It works so well with his style of music.

KFD was a departure from previous albums, and they got back to "bad boy" hard rock with Helldorado. Axl from GnR is probably a better song writer, but not by much, but Blackie's vocals are something special for the hard rock enthusiast.
@happrah3 жыл бұрын
Axl is not even close to Blackie when comes to song writting, might have been a better front man then not now.... AXL and Vince Neil were good once upon a time, they are pathetic these days... From the old bands Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Dee Snider and Blackie are still really good...
@MichaelMartin-eh6wl3 жыл бұрын
@@happrah I agree with the vast majority of your reply, but we may be defining "songwriting" differently. I'm only going on lyrics, and Axl wrote some great lyrics, (at least the FTW pissed off ones). He wrote some polarizing and downright offensive lyrics too. Of course, Blackie has some stinkers in his repertoire too. If we're including music with the term, which we probably should, then, yeah, Blackie has written better songs.
@randygonzalez1375 Жыл бұрын
Axl is a better pop song writer. Blackie is versatile can make a song that make you cry, angry, happy, partying, about religion about war about love and the greatest dark ballads known to man. His vocals are haunting and emotional.

Oh cool - the studio versions. I was expecting the live version from Double Live Assassins for some reason, lol. The Horror is an odd match-up for The Idol, but hey - musical diversity, right? lol The Horror is DARK. That whole KFD album shook me hard when I first heard it. I wasn't sure I could listen to it anymore and it actually made me lose sleep ; it was a total psychological assault for me, lol. But I soldiered on and came to terms with it, looked at it from different perspectives til I found one that I could reconcile with. It's now one of my favorite albums by W.A.S.P. - it's said that KFD is the end result of Blackie purging all his anger and hate over a lover who informed him one day, after a long relationship, she "liked girls now" and she was gone. I would never begrudge anyone from deciding they were gay or bi or whatever, and I'd let them go and wish them well, but getting dumped is getting dumped and it sucks no matter how amicable it might be done (I don't think she did it all that tactfully, hence his anger). As for ballads, you will not find more balladly ballads than "Keep Holding On" and "Breathe", both from the Still Not Black Enough album.

Once you get past the darkness of KFD there are some really catchy riffs there.
@BlackieNuff3 жыл бұрын
@@huck944 Definitely. I find it's a great soundtrack for beating the ever-loving shit out of enemies! :-D Fun fact : Lawless stated that following 9/11, the US military would sometimes mount loudspeaker to their tanks and trucks and blast heavy metal (especially W.A.S.P.) as a form of psychological warfare - apparently hearing that music sent those cowardly sand dogs running the opposite direction. I dunno if that's true but Lawless claims that's what he had heard, so who knows. It paints a hell of a picture though, so much so, that I hope it IS true. :-D

Nice reaction. I'm about to blow your mind though. Although it looks like you've reacted to several WASP songs, The Horror is the first W.A.S.P. song you've listened to. Let me explain. KFD, is a reunion album between Blackie and original guitarist Chris Holmes. Chris left in 89 and Blackie continued on a solo career he continued to call WASP. I'm not going to sit here and say that his solo albums aren't some of the best albums by a band called WASP, they are, but they aren't from the band that came to fame and infamy in the 1980s. They aren't from the band that Tipper Gore, the Washington Wives, the PMRC helped destroy their career in America. W.A.S.P. is the genesis of the Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics campaign that back fired in their face and gave all us metal heads a goal to seek out every album that had that label. It was a seal of approval if they disapproved of it. Motley Crue never used a swear word on an album until the label came along. So getting back to W.A.S.P. one of the craziest and profane bands of the 80s. They were known for outrageous lyrics, stage shows and album covers. If you want to hear the real W.A.S.P. , the band, check out their early releases I Wanna Be Somebody, L.O.V.E. Machine (make sure you watch the video on this one), Tormentor, Ballcrusher, Blind in Texas or finally something from the album that was the precursor to his solo stuff, The Headless Children, the title track or Mean Man. This is pure 80s W.A.S.P. the band that made it possible for Blackie to make those solo albums and more. I can't guarantee you'll like them, they are very different from what you've heard so far.

Kill fuck die album , which horror is from , to me always like resurgence of what the attitude, the show and the look of the band was in Sister (1976-1978) and Wasp was before especially live before 1984 . Wasp was a very dark band . Blackie wanted to revival that in 1997 There s an interview of 1995 where he talks about that . Most people didn't get it in 1997 . A very dark and radical album . With industrial edges . But thats what the band felt like also before the official first album of 1984 , in less industrial though. Thats why the band is definitivly not a part of that " Hair tag metal " some people put long after the Battle . I think because they don't where to put them . Instead of admitting they re doing their thing . Early Wasp demos and SISTER ( same band ) had a very similar look of what death and black metal bands would put later .. Also certain songs have a proto thrash feel and Blackie screechings vocals were spooky and had that kind of black shierk . Try Master of Disaster .
