From www.crosstraini... Forged in the dark bowels of Japan from melted down samurai swords comes a beast that few are prepared to ride. The Yamaha TT250 (and it's smaller brother the TTR230) is a lethal weapon. There is a reason you rarely see a TTR250 on the motocross track, and that's because few riders are skilled enough to handle the power. But it takes more than skill. The TTR250 also requires a man who giggles in the face of fear... and not a girly little giggle but one of those very masculine giggles. So read on for our TTR250 review and treat it as the Yamaha TTR230 review as well.

Tim is one of these men. A prime slice of Tasmanian manhood, it's a wonder he can walk at all with those well filled pants and he has all the characteristics needed to tame the beast that is the Yamaha TT250 in this Yamaha review. And the TTR230 ain't too shabby either.
And Tim has only the best protective gear when engaging the lethal TTR weapon in mortal combat for our TTR250 review.
Like all Japanese dirt bikes, there is a massive research and development budget where teams of highly qualified technicians and designers go through exhaustive testing to further refine the bike with updated graphics and stickers each year for the Yamaha TT230. And this year the TTR250 has more features than you can poke a stick at.
Tim has actually made the TTR250 even more lethal with further modifications. The TTR230 and TTR250 joins a long lineup of lethal weapons from Japan, including the Honda XR200 and CT70. We advise parental guidance as even watching these vids can be dangerous, let alone trying to ride these deadly rice burners. You have been warned.
Excerpts from a more serious TTR250 review (they don't have a Yamaha TTR230 review) on Bike Sales..
Is Yamaha's TTR250 hiding a mean streak under that unpretentious outside? You’re 450F is skipping over the choppy terrain and you’re easing its mammoth amount of power on and off to keep things in check, ever alert for any nasty surprises. Then, someone blows past you on a Yamaha TTR250. The TTR seems to be bucking about like a demented rodeo bull (albeit a very small one), but its rider just keeps the power on and rides off. How would that make you feel? How is this even possible?
Herein lays a secret that many dare not speak about the TTR250. Something so foreboding and paradigm-shifting that it would rock the trailriding fraternity to its very core, lest it ever be released. Today we will open the Pandora’s Box that holds the truths that have, until now, only been whispered in dark corners by folks of questionable mental capacity. We will reveal to you something so unpalatable to some that the rebuttal could well endanger us, but no longer can it remain hidde about the Yamaha TTR250. Turn away now if this unnerves you for the next sentence is not for the weak-hearted.
The $7299 TTR250 can be ridden as fast in some places as a 450F. Just writing those words have caused an eerie hush to befall my otherwise bustling suburb. And if we’ve upset you, well you just better get happy in the pants you got angry in, because it’s going to get worse. We fall in love with bikes all the time here. When we play the game of ‘Which bike would you buy if money was no object?’ it goes on for hours and hours and the list gets longer and more ridiculous. The latest addition to our mechanical love life is Yamaha’s venerable TTR250. Released in 1995, the TTR has become a favourite among those looking for a more ‘civilised’ and comfortable ride. It is in every sense of the word a ‘trailbike’. It’s not in any way a racebike.
The Yamaha TTR250 is proven to be a reliable and dependable machine that’s both given plenty of riders their introduction to the sport and perhaps in equal numbers, everything some riders will ever need in a bike.
To look at, the TTR250 is nothing short of unassuming. Next to a new WR450F, the air-cooled traily looks dumpy and docile. It’s not in any way appealing to riders who spend all their time on 450F fire breathers. It wasn’t all that enticing to me when we took it out on a photo shoot.
We entered the bush via a track that we’ve used for many years and therefore know like the back of our front fenders. It’s an open track that you can hit at a good pace as long as you’re mindful of some ruts that sit at 45 degrees towards the end. As a result of conditioning (ie years of riding that track flat out), I took off on the Yamaha TTR250 and immediately looked to match the speed of the two 450s.

Great bikes, I put 25,000+ miles on mine and the valves never budged. Never any mechanical issues, at all really. I don't know another single 250cc bike that's built as tough with fewer gremlins. Great little mountain goat of a bike, it needed a few more HP to lug around its weight, but it always got me through the trails and up whatever I was climbing. Shame they weren't more popular...getting plastics and other bits for it proved difficult.

back in 2006 when I decided out of the blue that I wanted to get a dirt bike that was exactly my first bike! A barely used 2004 TTR-250, for half the original price. Had a blast with it for one year, until I rode well enough that the bike was leaving me wanting more. Moved up to a 2007 WR450F, modded the heck out of the WR with YZ parts and turned it into a real fire-breathing beast.

@backyardboosters9128
@backyardboosters9128 7 жыл бұрын
markmtbrider she's 6 foot tall but skinny, she's pretty strong though from growing up on the farm but she's a rail, definitely needs a full size bike for sure though and my only concern is I don't want a water cooled 4 stroke like a yz or ktm 250f due to the maintenance costs in the long run and I'd fear a 250 2t might have a bit much ass for her especially if she wiskey throttled it. I've started teaching her on my yz125 and the issue there is as its a great bike it just demands an aggressiveness that I doubt she'd want to put into it. So maybe a used 200 2t wouldn't be a bad idea? I've never rode one so if anyone has any comments on that I'd appreciate the input.
@mark-1234
@mark-1234 7 жыл бұрын
Backyard Boosters - I think your wife would do fine on a TTR. They're really plush on the suspension, electric start, and tame on the power but still plenty for a moderate rider to have plenty of fun. But like I said, they are roughly 40 lbs heavier than most of today's enduro bikes so you may have to stop and help her when she drops it. ;)

I have a TTR-230 and its actually great. I used to hate that it felt like a small tractor but in really rough trails its unstoppable. The thing will never stall and requires no maintenance. Its honestly perfect at what its meant to do, which is be a reliable cheap trail bike. People try to take YZ450's in a hardcore trail and they get destroyed by everyone who isn't spending all their time kicking the bike to start due to a narrow power band.

ttr-230 is awesome bike except on big loose sandy hill climbs that was the first time I really needed more power. Great bike to have if you have a girlfriend or friends who come riding sometimes. Low seat height for us shorties also makes it awesome in the winter to throw studs in your tires and ride all year. Cheap bike to buy used and sell used and probably come out even if you want to get into riding.

I lowered the seat height and suspension on mine (I'm ground clearance challenged) and like its performance with DOT knobbies for street use here in the mountains. It runs great all the way to 13,000 feet elevation, though it could stand a smaller countershaft sprocket for those extreme rocky sections of trail around here.

Seat like sofa suspension like a blow up doll but a very capable bike. The thing with Yamaha is they just seem to be stuck in the 80s and don't innovate there bikes any more, they could be so much more shame really

agreed, most of their bikes are very good solid platforms but they just don't bother dragging them into the 21st century. :( that was the main theme in our YZ250X non-review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmWqpadqe7-np7M

I bought one this year, an 04. I'm learning to ride on this, and It's my first bike. I know she's nothing compared to others, but it's mine. I've re-jetted the carb, updated maintenance items, and it's paid me back with 10 hours (so far) of reliability. I'm not embarassed by it.

Good one! I hope you will be allowed to do a review of the awesome Yamaha TW 200 some day. Not even the Berg's need a rear tire as wide to put the power to the ground. Like the mighty DR 650, the TW 200 takes a special breed of rider to tame the beast into submission!
