What's with the "price is right" Plinko boards?
@jesuspectre98834 жыл бұрын
The panels satisfy the recent designer trend of adding "height" to a production. Anything to get players on a second level, apparently. The panels don't make literal sense other than alluding to the Valley of Elah walls, but perhaps there's an allusion to "climbing" as David figuratively does, and maybe being hung on a peg which the giant is by the end. My only issue is that they don't transform by the end-- they can't meaningfully transform because nobody knows what they represent in the first place. If I were stuck having to create some kind of transformation, I would subtly reveal that the stone crevices on each panel spell letters D-A-V-I-D, one letter in each of the five stone wall panels-- a metaphor for the story being etched in stone, or part of the "foundation" of biblical myth, and that David himself has become a metaphoric stone wall, strong and lasting.

It's a profound concept but "they're going to miss their shot." This is my favorite show but it's GE design, visual analysis and the visual proficiency techs keeping them out of the top 5 now. It's 7-31, and they've slipped to 7th. Now the Cadets are on their rear. The introduction has 2 different ideas poorly staged thus it lacks coherency. As an audience member one is looking to the left and to the right (incoherent staging). Page 0 should be the resolution of the recorded music --- to transition out as they were going. Marry the ideas (staging-wise) so the eyes can process all things happening. Where's Goliath? Couldn't he come above the middle prop while some guard gets the eye up there to do so? To do that is an idea of continuity...then create the dissonance of the David group and move towards the old page 0.

@@zachlum4754 Not really. GE composite and visual proficiency carries more weight. A many of DCI corps have won without top percussion or brass awards. BAC color guard spins very well...the best of the corps. It's staging and where's the eye that's hurting the over-all scores the most. That includes where's the musicians and guard and how they intermingle together. Can percussion improve? Absolutely!

Jesu Spectre Very strange considering Crusaders were not a Top 5 corps this year. I loved this show as well as all the others I had the opportunity to see. I was at this event, nightBEAT, and saw no real problems with the audience. If you were speaking of audiences as a whole throughout the activity, I think that it is beautiful that every performer is shown respect for their hard work through the summer, drum corps is an activity that actively spreads positivity, one main output being the audiences of the performances. Edit: Grammar
@jesuspectre98835 жыл бұрын
@@duffin3503 If I hear one more idiot talk about "how hard the kids work" and "their interpersonal growth" and "respect for their performance" I'm going to puke red bowels. This is a college level activity now. The designers must be held accountable for their horrible choices, and own it. The kids will eventually learn that they are at the mercy of their designers' choices. Eventually, eventually the marching members will be included in the design process, not left out to dry, suffering all summer wearing white dresses like Spirit of Atlanta, or like Boston being told to enact a grotesque and macabre beheading after an eleven minute squeaky clean G-rated fairy tale. The worst, most gasp-inducing, career-ending design decision of the season.
@duffin35035 жыл бұрын
Jesu Spectre How is this at all in the relation to drum corps audiences as you denounced so heavily at first? The designers have a few short months to put together a 12 minute show every summer that takes place within the limitations of a single flat football field. Every show strives to produce something different, to tackle an idea that hasn’t yet really been explored. You can’t expect that with certain uniforms and other visual design that you are suddenly going to see a modern masterpiece that will be remembered until the end of time. Yes, I concede that the new ending for the show did not line up incredibly well with the rest of the narrative, but the DRUM CORPS part of the show was fantastic. The closing few moments of the performance had everyone on their feet because of the execution of all the very talented performers giving all they had for the night, it was not over a design choice that the people were mesmerized into cheering on a very talented corps.
@juliettecabral5 жыл бұрын
I feel asleep during this show. It was so boring until the last 2 minutes.
@jesuspectre98835 жыл бұрын
This ending is an embarrassment to the entire activity. A beheading is the one element of this Bible story that any experienced screenwriter or playwright would avoid in adapting it for a youth activity. Not the Boston Crusaders. No, they have so little story experience, they went right for it, completely ignoring our country's recent history of beheadings at the hands of ISIS, and completely ignoring the G-rated tone of the first twelve minutes of this piece after building up so much good will in the protagonist. Just gasp inducing. Really horrifying, incompetent artistic direction. Would the rights holders of the Rocky theme song approve of it being played during a realistic beheading? I suggest the show coordinator think again. Unconscionable, uneven, amateurish design. If you want your production to be grisly and gritty, make it so, throughout. 6th place.
