Fully agree with the reviewer. This is an amazing set. I have them (the detachable cable version) since last April and I can't listen to any other IEM or Headphones ever since. You get hooked to the deep bass, the excellent mids and highs.I mostly listen to Classical and Jazz for hours, but they are equally impressive in vocals, rock and generally all types of music. I drive them mostly through a Cayin N6ii EO2 DAP. Fully recommend them.

Excellent review ---- I have these , superb headphones , beautiful to look at and handle. I am a Denon AH-D2000, and 5000 owner. Two modded, one stock, the E-MU Teak are a major step up in terms of sound quality. I bought a Stepdance portable amp to match up with my 5000's --- Meier, this little portable amp matches up better than Dave ---- better than my vintage Yammie and better than my heavily modded little dot hybrid. I have been doing an A -B comparison with my Ananda. This is what blew me away about the teaks ------ pop --- rock --- it's the teaks that are better. Classical and orchestral music its Ananda. The teaks are the best sounding closed headphone I have heard and owned. I have sold the TP5GEN2, but still have the Amiron and 990 pro and 1990 pro. Plus Sennheiser 800 and 650 , I have heard all of the current line --- 5200 7200 , the teaks hammer them in every respect. Only the Ananda hold their own --- but don't posses the rich tones and texture --- but they detail better and have more height. The teaks are far more of a musical entity though Truly amazing headphones ---- on of my better purchases. You are spot on with your review, very concise , and accurate.

@@theprinceofeverything1975 I didn't actually - going point. They don't need much power, easy to drive, including if you go via even your mobile phone. Great review and exactly what I needed. I am daily driving my HifIman Anandas and love the large sound and slam at low end (Anandas are not exactly like Sundaras but same house sound so your comment on Sundaras is useful). I also have B&W P9s which I love for their musicality and fun which lot of people in audiophile community might disagree with. I was looking to get a new headphone to complement my current pairs and someone recommended Fostex TH-X00 and EMu-Teak so this review was very timely. I was also looking at Focal Elex but since I never liked Senheiser HD6XX (another headphone that I own) because I found them very claustrophobic, someone on head-fi told me to skip Focals because chances of disappointment are high. I think after listening to your review it appears that this is the sound signature that I enjoy and I will go ahead and order these bad boys. Unfortunately, I cant try them on in London so will have to rely on these reviews and feedback from people who are a lot more knowledgeable in this area than myself. Thanks again for this amazing review.

@@davidmason8212 I had both Sundara and Ananda for couple of weeks before I returned Sundara and decided to keep Ananda. From memory, Sundaras have big slam similar to Ananda but less neutral. You could say, Ananda are Sundara on steroids with better clarity, big sound and wide soundstage. I think the premium is totally worth it and Ananda could give any headphone up to £1500 a run for its money if you like neutral (not sterile) sound. Summarising, if you like big sound, which is also neutral with lots of clarity and wide sound stage, you will love Ananda. Hope this helps.

Great review! One of my all-time favorite headphones. You might ask E-mu to send you some ebony cups. I have several wood variants from E-mu and I like the ebony slightly more than the teak. Both are very good, but the ebony's higher density seems to more effectively dampen dampen the resonances of the teak. They're a bit heavier, so they provide a more stable base for cleaner, tighter, impactful bass.

Great review. I have the EMU Teak and I love them as well. Although I prefer my HD800S and Focal Stellia over them, the EMU Teak are certainly in a class of here own when it comes to bang for the buck. How would you compare these with the AH-D7200? Especially when it comes to bass. Are the AH-D7200 tighter in the bass? Also which one do you think has better (bigger) soundstage?
@TotallydubbedHD
@TotallydubbedHD 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Going from memory, after having reviewed the Denons, I'd say the Teak have got that slightly bit more warmth in the low-end - probably due to the choice of wood (Teak). I feel the timbre reproduction is that slight bit more present, while the Denons have got a little more of a tame low-end - namely in the sub-bass extension. You could argue that the Denons have a slightly tighter bass response, too - yes. As for soundstage, I think they're very similar but the Teak again comes out on top namely due to its slightly bettered instrument separation. Effectively both are great, but I'd go for the Teak every day of the week. That's not even looking the mids, where the Teak sound more forward and pleasant across the range vs the Denons that sound more recessed (both have a V-Shaped sound though, so won't compete with the like of the HD800S).

@@TotallydubbedHD Thank you for the detailed reply. You painted an excellent picture that matches with my expectations. Once again the middle weight champion EMU Teak punches way above its weight! I have yet to find a headphone for under $1300 USD that I think is better. Although I am on my way to pick up a Focal Radiance now which I think will be a small step up in bass control and accuracy, which I think is the only weak spot for the Teaks.

Hey where can I find the suspension strap that you use? And would you say the TH900 is a worthwhile upgrade to the Teak? Great video BTW! I too have been a big old school Denon fan (still have my AH-D 2000s purchased in 2012; the headband fell completely apart so I had to reconstruct the headband out of duct tape haha. They look horrible but fit great and and still work beautifully). I watched your reviews of the E-MU Teak and took the chance and ordered and, after having the E-MU Teak for a while now, I must say, your description of the sound signature was spot on. The Teak is truly amazing at the price and were absolutely the perfect long sought-after upgrade to the Denon I have been searching for. I really think these cans are underrated. I have Hifiman Sundara and that is a great headphone but the Teak beats it handily everytime. The Teak doesnt quite have the detail retrieval or the speed of the Sundara but the Teak has about 90% of it and the Teak throws in that organic woody resonance and effortless bass and sub-bass that the Sundara just cant match even with loads of EQ. Everytime I put the Sundara on I find myself enjoying it and saying to myself why did I buy the Teak and then I switch back to the Teak and it quickly reminds me who is boss! Thanks for this video.

Haha, we seem to share a similar repertoire of headphones! I'd say the TH-900s are indeed worth an upgrade, however, when you consider the asking price, it's easy to forget about the differences. The 900s do better in the mids, and are superior in this domain over the Teaks - see it if you will, like the difference between the D2K and the Teaks in terms of the improvement in the mid-range. You can see a review of the 900s here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4uvhGCwj66UhtE Glad you're liking the Teaks and agree with my assessment over the D2K - they're fantastic aren't they :D? As for the headband - gosh I honestly don't know the name, but I just looked it up on eBay from memory - looking online now, I can't seem to find it. To be honest, can be any headband strap/suspender - see if you can find them online; I went through my feedback profile on eBay and found this: "Denon D2k AH-D2000 D7k AH-D7000 - Head comfort upgrade strap - Lohb Strap (#183782164674)" from seller, 'electrofunk303' - maybe message them, but they don't seem to be selling it anymore on their profile (inactive for 6months). FYI it was £30. In terms of the Sundara - they're brilliant, but open-back headphones; completely different type of beast; I love my Sundaras, although, barely use them now as a result of the Teaks being my dailies!

@@TotallydubbedHD Thank you for the quick reply. No worries about the strap. I'll keep searching online but I really appreciate you trying to track it down. I'll check out your review of the Th 900 again. I am pretty sure I watched it before but at the time I wasn't as interested in them as I am now. Yes, Sundara and Teak totally different; open vs closed; but for me, I find it interesting how the Teak makes me forget that its a closed back sometimes with its soundstage lol. The Sundara is wider and more open sounding, but the gap isn't that great...imho of course. Anyways thanks for the info and the great videos. Much appreciated! Keep up the great work!

The replacement of the cables is a real pain though, they are super fragile and the cups (and cable) are wired wrong (bottom of the connector is not ground but middle is) This means that no replacement cable I have tried has worked. In the EU its incredibly hard to find a replacement cable, I haven't been able to yet... and E-Mu charges 100 dollar for a replacement that's excluding duties. While I love the headphone this is something worth considering and not to be glossed over. # Update: I found a cable that works its the one linked in my reply to this comment. It appears any cable with 2*2.5mm mono should work. HD 700 replacement cables sometimes have this.

@@TotallydubbedHD OK, just got them today. Made a quick pad swap to a pair of Orion earpads that I was using with my now retired Audioquest Nightowl. These E-MU Teak are the best headphones I've owned so far. I haven't realized how much midrange I've been missing on all my previous headphones and this bass...damn, it stays on the lower registers and lets everything else above shine. Comfort-wise, they disappear, I don't feel them on my head. Your review is spot on. My closed back headphone quest is over, just for curiosity I would like to listen to the ZMF Verite Closed; but looking at the graphics alone, I probably won't like them much, but that depends on everything else. The build is kind of lackluster, I was expecting more metal for what I paid. Build-wise the E-Mu Teak can't hold a candle next to the DT-1990; the best built headphones I've owned so far. But, the DT-1990 can't hold a candle to everything else sound-wise next to the E-Mu teak, the Teaks have WAY better bass, better midrange, better highs, better timbre. Hi. My Denon D7200 just broke recently (significant channel imbalance). While I'm waiting for the price of it to drop in amazon uk, I love the deep rumble, thick mids and detailed upper treble of my D7200, but not so much for the subdued upper mids to lower treble. I'm curious to see how the E-mu Teak compare to the D7200 as you have tried it both. And people called the teak more balanced than D7200, but I wonder if it is a downgrade to the D7200 in terms of the things I said above, and the killer imaging capabilities(when it's working)
@TotallydubbedHD

The imaging on the Teaks is better, the soundstage improved, the mid-range also improved (and indeed less recessed), the sub-bass extends a little further and the woody tonality translates to a great overall sound signature. There are so many out there, from the Adanda BT, Audeze line, Sennheiser to the likes of electrostatic headphones. Not tried the Focal however. How they compare to top-tier flagships... Well it would depend on which one lol. Take your 600 example, which are far from flagship: the teak have got far better low end reproduction, better instrument separation, but lack the forward mids and openness due to them being closed back. It then goes a little further if I compare them with the hd800s for example. The latter do even better in these domains, and further, up the notch in instrument separation.

In this regard it has a pretty good price-to-performance rating since the law of diminishing returns get bigger with more expensive cans. Thanks for replying!
@TotallydubbedHD
@TotallydubbedHD 4 жыл бұрын
@@asianhat8660 well to be honest, I didn't compare it, in my example to closed backs. And in this domain it essentially performs the same to cans that cost 2-3x its price. That's where you'll then know that these perform far beyond their asking price.

@@TotallydubbedHD That almost seems too good to be true lol. Have you had any experience with the ZMF Eikon or Atticus? Or maybe Dan Clark Aeon 2 Closed? Those are more expensive closed backs and I wonder how they compare to the Teak. If not, that's fine, I appreciate your answers!

@petrugandrabura9923
@petrugandrabura9923 3 жыл бұрын
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks for the reply! They may be the same size as D2K but the newer Dx200 are completely redesigned and they look smaller to me judging by the pictures/videos, I just can't find any pictures of these next to each other. The thing is that I bought a pair of D7200 and although the build quality is fantastic, the ergonomics is really bad, and the scene width or depth didn't improve over my current 150gbp audio technica headphones, so I was wondering maybe the E-Mu or any other Fostex from this family has a bigger scene due to bigger cups, if that's actually true.
@TotallydubbedHD
@TotallydubbedHD 3 жыл бұрын
@@petrugandrabura9923 I reviewed them around 3 years ago, and they're effectively the same cup size - maybe you're in need of better ear pads for your headphones? Is that what's causing the issue - as surely it's not the clamp force?

@TotallydubbedHD 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say ther LCD-2C are great with their overall low-end extension, but won't come across as eloquently in the mids. On the flip side, the LCD-2C have got a wider and more airy soundstage due to their design. The big thing for me, however, is that I'd never get the LCD range as they're too heavy to be worn for a prolonged time, while the Teak can be worn for hours on end without discomfort. Of course, that's got nothing to do with the sound, but is/was a major factor for me. Hope that helps!

I just got the E-MU teak and i also found the stock pads with the small ear holes to be a little uncomfortable. I bought the AHG orion ear pads for them and they are much more comfortable, but they change the sound too much. Most notably the bass is reduced. Does the Lawton Audio pad also reduce the bass? Do you know what kind of difference the attenuation ring makes? It is permanently attached to the stock pads so I couldn't use them on my replacement pads. I know Dekoni audio has attenuation rings that you buy, but I don't know if they'll bring the bass back.
@TotallydubbedHD
@TotallydubbedHD 4 жыл бұрын
Indeed pads will make a difference to the overall sound signature. Namely because your ears are further away from the drivers. I have had no issues in terms of bass with the Lawton pads. Sounds great to me. Might be a little less in your face I guess?

i have got the emu teak on january 2020 the build and comfort is excellent simply 10 out of 10 BUT the sound is not that good and i am going to tell you why the bass is big especially in mid bass but the subbass don’t have enough details at all you can feel the bass but you can’t hear any subbass . the mids are excellent but there is a 5k peak which makes the some instruments unbearable highs are excellent nothing wrong with it very detailed overall vocals and details are class leading except the bass area . soundstage is wide for a closed back but narrow for an open back. imaging is bad the elevation in the bass area makes it impossible to pin point the direction of the sound . the worst thing in this headphone is the THD. the total harmonic distortion in this headphone on high volume is crazy . if you are used to hear music on loud volume just skip this headphone it’s useless for you
