Please Note: This is my own interpretation of the effect seen on Penn & Teller. I cannot say for certain that this is the method, maybe not? If you are offended by any magic revelation, please do not view this video.
One of the best card performances that totally fooled Penn & Teller on Fool Us Season 6 Episode 12. Nestor Hato changed any cards in to Aces right under the noses, close up, of Penn & Teller.
Revealed is a method that can be used to recreate the exact same appearance as Nestor. Watch the performance, then learn how to make this trick and perform it for friends and family.
The method used here is not a new idea, but can have its origin traced back many years. A variation appeared in the Tarbell magic course, David Britland had a similar effect called Angel Card Rise, I own a version of the gimmick called Jumping Jacks. I think these can be used for this effect..

I wish the term exposed was not used in these videos that show methods. "Method revealed" would be a bit more classy. Exposed seems to point towards something nefarious being done. I do appreciate you saying it's your interpretation though. It's a clever method that requires good handling. However Nestor Hato did this routine is moot, his performance was brilliant and beautiful. And that really, is what magic is about...presentation. Thanks for posting this method though, it's clever.

Another interesting part of this is that he throws the deck at the end, so Penn and Teller won't look at it. Not like anyone is going to stoop down and collect all the cards.

Allow me to say something about Lennart Green. He is not sloppy at all. His persona, his presentation paints a picture of sloppiness, but this is intentional. I highly recommend his DVD, where you see how methodical and clean his sleights are.

That was very impressive! I have watched that Fooled Us episode several times at .25x speed and was able to catch....nothing. Well, there was a quick glimpse of the Ace in one frame.😂. I think you and your group of friends have figured out how the trick was done. Penn and Teller was right there burning his hands and the magician was still able to pull it off. Thank you very much for this tutorial.

Full disclosure, when I first saw you, you had credibility, but that moment you said “I can’t do that flourish/production” I almost closed the video. I’m so glad I didn’t! I went from this guy’s a joke, to dammmnnnn! This guy’s totally legit. When you did that first reveal you gained a subscriber and fan mister. I’m curious how much flak the “don’t reveal the secrets of magicians” crowd will give you. Thank you, thank you,. This was plaguing me as to how he did this.

i can't think of a better explanation...terrific tutorial...thanks! I watched Mr. Hato do it again....if this is in fact his method....He is doing it so quickly I can't spot a thing....He peels off the top four cards with a diagonal sweep....this would be the critical moment when he'd be ejecting the aces....but since the cards are not coming off in a straight line from the top of the deck....rather on a diagonal....you would think you might spot the elastic ejection which would come out on a straight line, therefore possible be revealed by the diagonal trajectory of the top cards....so the sleight would need to be done with exquisite timing ....so that ten cards are removed with 2 separate angles merged into one graceful apparency. So, if this is the case....it just means his mastery is exceptional....but....that is why he enjoys the reputation he does among his peers....and that's the main point I suppose...he is capable of that level of grace and momentum.....

If you watch his amazing performance, when he riffle shuffles the cards a couple times you can see that he does it in the way that leaves a pretty big packet of cards that don't get riffled that points to using this technique i think. While this is a good theory, I am not 100% sure I'm convinced this is how he does it. Yes, he has to be turning over 8 cards as 4, and your theory shows one way he could do it easily, but my evidence is at 1:23 if your linked video of the performance. The one of the kings he just transformed into an ace is now at the bottom of one of his packets. Initially I thought he just did a packet change, and already had the 4 aces on the top, and smoothly put the 4 kings on the bottom while making it look like he put them on top, however, that is not true because at 1:04 in that video, before he's even revealed that he's changed the kings into aces, you can clearly see that's it's a 10D on the bottom. Now at 1:02, you can see he has his cheeky little pinky ready for keeping a break, then shortly after that, when he places the Kings back on top, before he squares up, he has some cards side jogged (against the meaty part of his thumb), that might be the 4 aces. Basically, he's really, very, very good, and I think he did this with sleights more than gimmicks, however, your gimmick idea might be something us hobbiest magicians might be able to pull off.

This certainly seems a probably solution. That's probably why he threw the cards over his should when done, so they couldn't be examined, and the elastic cord probably wouldn't be noticed on the floor behind him as he wrapped up the dialog.

In the beginning, I could not believe that this method is the one he used because he sometimes spread the cards so smoothly in his hands. But when I watched the video several times again frame by frame you can see the move happen at 4.45 min (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5LcfKJ4rKeYfbc). When you skip through the video at 0.25 speed and hit pause frame by frame you see how a small package of cards jumps out of the deck so you see the 4 selected cards and on top a small package of the 4 Aces. It is a very simple trick but because of that and the way he performed it, it was a completly fooler to me. Very nicely done!
