Toyotaro does something I can’t get over with the manga, it’s that almost everything everything looks so stiff. It’s hard to really place my finger on (and no it’s not because of increased detail) but it looks as if the fighters are flexing at all times and can’t relax. What’s weird is that more detailed manga haven’t had this issue for me, for example one punch man.

Frankly I think crowning any one artist as "the best" is kind of pointless because other artists excel at things that one artist sometimes didn't involve themselves with much. For example, some Western comic artists like Alex Ross (DC) and Brent Bristol (Ordeal, a Webtoon) excel with colours, which is something most manga artists don't get heavily involved with because manga is typically printed in black and white.

Just looking at Goku's right arm in Toyotaro's drawing.. Not saying it's bad but it feels like it's smaller and out of proportions with his other arm. But it's an u fair comparison to begin with, which I think we should all be able to agree on.

The world he built! Do people really not understand how good his shape language is? Illustration is just the beginning. Designing characters and environments is infinitely more difficult than drawing cool fights. I don't think amateurs understand that learning to draw is only a small part of being well rounded artist.

Toyotaro’s current art style reminds me of Toriyama’s early art style in DB and early DBZ. Eventually Toriyama’s (bless his soul) style grew sharper and more angular, quite noticeable from saiyan saga onto namek saga. Given time Toyotaro will refine his own art style and I hope to continue seeing his progress not just for Toriyama-sensei’s sake, but for Toyo-san to finally be able to be proud of his own creations

I think the whole point of toriyama teaching Toyotaro with drawing dragon ball characters is so dragon ball will continue past his death. Plus he was apparently in the middle of several dragon ball projects that I think will be finished.
