I am honestly most impressed by his 200m. At 19.19 he is just 0.3 seconds short of running his 100m WR twice, and without the wind, he may have done it. Now of course the first 100m suffers from acceleration. But still to maintain that speed and be so close to running two 9.58's in a row 🤯

Bolt is just one-of-a-kind. So calm and cool, a completely different physique to the sprinters around him, and smashed the world records in two of the most competitive events in athletics (including the showpiece event in the men’s 100m). Even his name is just perfect. We may see someone beat Bolt’s records, and who knows, the person to do it might come sooner than you think. But what would be a shock is if that person was as magnetising and universally loved as Bolt. That seems nearly impossible.

.03m/s is basically no wind at all and wouldn't make even a hundredth of a second difference as the force to mass difference is so large. .03m/s wind means during the entire duration of the race the wind would have only been able to move a speck of dust just slightly more than half a metre. Put your lips close to the bumper of your car, hold still, then stick your tongue out and see how much your car moves. You will be applying more force to the vehicle than if you kept your tongue in your mouth, but it will not affect the movement through space of that vehicle one little bit.

I mean he pulled up early to “celebrate” in the 9.69 in the Olympics. Obviously not saying that that meant he ran faster in that, but I think it does credit the coach’s theory that there were most likely things that they both know that could have been more “perfect.” Obviously not saying anything to minimize his running abilities, but if he couldn’t have, that would possibly mean the record would never ever be broken, and I don’t like to think that!

Used the previous olympics example because I’d imagine his time would be around like 9.62 or low 9.6’s if he ran that race through the whole 100. .03m/s is basically no wind at all and wouldn't make even a hundredth of a second difference as the force to mass difference is so large. .03m/s wind means during the entire duration of the race the wind would have only been able to move a speck of dust just slightly more than half a metre. Put your lips close to the bumper of your car, hold still, then stick your tongue out and see how much your car moves. You will be applying more force to the vehicle than if you kept your tongue in your mouth, but it will not affect the movement through space of that vehicle one little bit.

The only way in which Bolt's size might handicap his recorded reaction times is that he'll naturally have his head slightly higher, and thus very slightly farther from the speaker that transmits the sound of the starting pistol. I think TRP is confusing the measured reaction time with his initial acceleration. A sprinter of Bolt's size will have more inertia to overcome (and drag from wind resistance in the case of a headwind), so getting up to speed from rest will require more effort. Thus a fast acceleration out of the blocks relative to his competitors would be all the more impressive.
@coachRoome
@coachRoome 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Reaction time has nothing to do with size, other than the nanosecond of difference for the message to travel from his brain to his muscles. A better measure of the quality of his start would have been his speed at 5/10m.

What you said makes so much sense. That explains why his coach Glenn Mills made him do some tough physical strength and conditioning workouts. Standing at 6'5" and weighing 210 pounds, Usain Bolt was a sprinter in a NBA shooting guard's body, making him not ideal for sprinting. His tough physical strength and conditioning workouts are also why Usain Bolt could dunk a basketball even without the proper technique and jump higher than most elite NBA players.

What does the size of an athlete have to do with their reaction time
@RayadoxAV
@RayadoxAV 3 жыл бұрын
Reaction time is most of the times measured by how fast your body reacts to external stimuli, and those reactions are nothing more than electric signals running through the body to the limbs, a larger body means those signals take more time to reach the limbs, therefore a larger body generally means a slower reaction time
