What an impressive man, 3:47 indoor mile, 7:23 3000, 12:38 5k, 26:31 10k, and now a 57:30 Half. These are all crazy achievements, either world record, within a few seconds of a world record, or a top 10 all time performance. The versatility he has across so many distances, and the decade long longevity is absolutely insane!

Also great to see Mateiko coming in second, remember he paced the first 30k of each of Kiptum's marathon majors - glad he's still delivering after losing a close friend and training partner

With his advantage in super long stride, I see him breaking 1:59:40 in an official marathon. This guy is built better than anyone else for distance running including kiptum and kipchoge. He broke the half marathon record on a rainy day which will slow you down by around 1% so give him perfect conditions at a Berlin marathon and would not be surprised if he becomes the first man to run under 1:59

5:35 because the official 15k record was run during the Zevenheuvelenloop (Nijmegen), which is a really tough course. It literally means the "seven hills run". No wonder that 15k splits can be faster than that, especially considering that they can have a net downhill (if the last 6.1km has an uphill again so that the entire halfmarathon course is flat)

kelvin kiptum ran valencia half in 2020 and 2021 placing 6th and 8th respectively. seemed destined for mediocrity until he jumped to the marathon in 2022 and was able to run 2:01:53, 3rd fastest time ever. then he ran 2:01:25 and then 2:00:35 becoming the fastest marathoner of all time, all without ever having won a single major title, medal, or championship along the way. literally out of nowhere. His 10k pb is 28:27 for god's sake, just beating out Agnes Ngetich- the fastest 10k WOMAN of all time. amazing!
