Congrats on your Twins & on Akani recently getting married! After his record number of 4th & 5th places in WC/OLY 100m Finals, felt like the whole T&F community let out a huge sigh of relief that 31yr old Akani Simbine at least got his hands on a Global Medal with his OLY 4x1 Silver when him & Zharnel Hughes ran a monster final leg to win Silver & Bronze for SA & GB respectively!

False start rules are BS
@duncanharvey22092 күн бұрын
💯. I participated in a study on block settings in about 2003. Full sensors and the works. I did at least ten full starts and went under 0.1 at least three times with the rest being no worse than 0.13. I was a "fast starter". I also got DQd in a race with sensored blocks for going under but spent most of my time racing without sensored blocks. As we all know, the rule was based off a random study of a handful of sub elite sprinters. The rule needs to be set at 0.05 or at least 0.08 because it's absolutely certain we can react faster than 0.1 and a lot of work has been done on this over the last 20 years.

I feel bad for Akani Simbine. Unfortunately, I blame the 1996 Olympics 100 meters finals for implementing the 1 false start and you're out rule. Sprinters from those games were purposely false starting in order to mentally mess with their top rivals in the finals. It's so hard to see Simbine false starting from video. I think the reaction times must be implemented for the possibility of the absolute best sprinters to react faster than perceived or agreed upon because top level sprinters continue to push the boundaries on what is agreed to be scientifically impossible possible.

If you're going to evaluate someone like Simbine, you might just want to look a little more closely at who beat him in the big meets and what their doping status was/is/became. Maybe if we wait another 12 years, he'll eventually get upgraded . . . sadly, like so many others.

Hey TRP! You should do a piece on the situation in Norway regarding Gjert Ingebrigtsen. The athletic body is moving to bar him from everything long before there has been a criminal/civil trial or verdict. It’s already causing a bit of fuzz here. Nordås & Svela are the only ones that stand by him until further notice. Good lads ❤

What's the case about
@erikwigelandiestad22702 күн бұрын
Gjert is scheduled to face a criminal trial next year. Accused of physical abuse of two of his children, where one is named as Jakob. There other one is believed to be the daughter I…. which is still not 18 yo. The controversy is that the athletic body has refused accreditation for the last few championships despite his success with Nordås, leading to him bailing out of the recent cross country championships. The latest is that they want to bar him from everything, prior to the trial as a «preventive» measure. Highly controversial to say the least. The matter is far more complex , this is just from the top of my head.

@AngelTiel2 күн бұрын
Doesn't really seem that 'unfortunate'. You seem to be suggesting that being in the worlds top 10 justifies a top 3 finish. The nature of 100 metres is that the times will be close. Extrapolate that to 400 metres and you've got 0.2 seconds-are there really no other athletes who have been similarly close so often in their respective events by proportional margins? I'm not criticising the guy, I hope he gets more than a relay medal, but I don't think his situation is as unique as you're suggesting is all.
@MaipeloModise2 күн бұрын
Think about it like this when he started qualifying for finals he was competing against Usain Bolt and Gatlin and Yohan Blake , one of the best sprinters this century has ever seen and was still seen as a podium candidate. You’d assume after they retire ,he’d be a candidate to win or even make a podium,cos the greatest sprinters of this generation we’ve ever seen were in his way are now retired. But still even though they are retired he still can’t manage to get a podium. The guys who his competing with now were not even in 100m finals when he was running with Usain Bolt and Gatlin.

It's not physically possible to respond to a sound that isn't there! The fact that there is force inside of the span of the gunshot means that he was starting before the sound reached him. That is the textbook definition of a false start. No other runner has a force blip inside of the gunshot. You can not call an anticipated start a true start. That is the problem. To remove instability from timing, you must have a definitive zero. That can not mean letting people jump the gun... A clean .078 is a joke right, right? Considering you just got done explaining that it takes .1 seconds to hear the sound, and almost .5 seconds for the whole neural network of synapses to fire up! It's just not possible, and we shouldn't allow it ever.
@TotalRunningProductions2 күн бұрын
0.05 seconds for a synapse. There’s actually a lot of studies suggesting that 0.1 seconds is not the proper timeframe. I’d be happy to forward you the studies
@Robert_McGarry_Poems2 күн бұрын
@TotalRunningProductions It is not possible. I stand by that. I've seen the science behind it, and there will never be any discussing it until the science backs it up. Until that happens, discuss whatever your opinion feels is necessary. But that's why rules exist... 🍻

Hey cheers mate. Appreciate your feedback.
@richardgallimore59762 күн бұрын
This is false. The IAAF ruling of 0.100 comes from a study done years ago with a sample size of 12 athletes all from one nation, none of them Olympic caliber. Other studies have shown 0.08 ~ 0.09 as achievable by humans, & a bunch of track athletes have pulled it off. The 0.078 is most likely legit & just a good reaction time.
