Thank you for a total explanation-I had to have a revision of one of my knee replacements. And “back pain” on the opposite side from the revision. I am now 16 weeks post surgery. My PT said my knee was doing well-and has given me “stretches” for my hips. Has mentioned ‘stenosis”. I am doing water exercises 3-4 times a week and slowly feel strength returning to the operative side. Your explanation of the body mechanics and strength as whole-makes total sense to me. Thank you!!!! I wish someone/PT would have explained this to me. Your explanation has given me “hope”-I will continue with whole body movement…and maybe consult another PT.

this information was very helpful. I wish my Orthopedic group had included it in pre-surgery “what to expect” information. Since my surgery I have had more irritating breakthrough pain from back issues than the actual incision and swelling pain alone.

Thank you so much that was helpful. I just had two months back Right TKR and last 7 months back Left TKR. I am having severe spinal and thigh pain which I never had before. Did not knew what was happening. Your video is relief for me. I will work on it now. Hope soon I will get recovered. God bless Everyone.

You hit the nail on the head. I'm 8 weeks post-op for tkr. Next week I will finish PT. My knee and range-of-motion are on target but my back has me in tears. I brought a copy of my MRI to the therapist and tried to talk with him about how the spinal stenosis was impacting my overall recovery. He read the report and said my back condition it is out of the scope of care. My reply was that "everything is connected". He gave me additional exercises that focus strictly on the knee and which only exacerbate low back pain. Thank you for being so mindful about treating conditions holistically.

Thank you for this! You confirmed what I had been thinking was wrong. Eleven years ago I had spinal fusion. Nine months ago I had total left-knee replacement, and 9 WEEKS ago, total right-knee replacement. My back hurts so much I can hardly walk upon arising, so I use a cane to prevent limping, for about an hour. Your video describes me well with the non-endurance with walking. Fortunately I told my PT and nurse-practitioner about the problem, and got PT extended, and also the focus there has been on strengthening my back and leg muscles. I hope to make major improvements in my gait! Thank you so much for pointing out the whole-body issue. You have greatly encouraged me!

Omg! This is me! I've always been this way! I just had my knee replaced and I'm in so much pain in my back. I've never been able to walk without a cart and I was rowing before my knee replacement. My physical therapist has been concentrating on my knee. I'm going to talk to my therapist about this. I did tell them that my lower back hurt and they looked at me like I was crazy.

Exactly what I told my therapist when I first started therapy for TLKR. She stated it could not be done on the same visit... I will be looking for a new therapist for TRKR next month who will address my back pain.

This video has given me so much relief! I'm 64 & while not athletic, have always worked hard in my preferred physical activities. My knees finally screamed louder than I could bear to put up with and this past year I had both knees replaced, 6 months apart. 1st knee was horrifically painful & swollen. I had 2 awesome PTs and came through it better than I thought possible. 2nd knee had very little swelling and a little less pain. After 3 1/2 months of PT with a different therapist I am frustrated to tears. I have attempted to get my therapist to hear me; to understand that I am worse off when I leave my session, to the point that I can't function for 2 days and something has to change. I've explained where I am hurting, refused certain exercises that caused me immediate pain, and cried in her face. Other therapists in the room have pulled me from an exercise when my therapist wasn't present to assist/assess me. My therapist once responded to me that she is working on my knee, and can't help me with what ever arises from therapy. So please, how does one get through to their therapist that something needs to change in order for improvement to occur? I worked hard to get my 1st knee back in order. Now I feel like I'm going backwards. I thank you for your time and expertise.

Yes how do you get the physical therapist to listen. They look at me like I'm crazy. I know I had spinal stenosis before. My Doctor said some of my vertebrae fused together and it says I have this on my xray

Your videos are so helpful. I love that you take time to explain things. I am 2 1/2 weeks PO RTKR. I have had more pain in my hip, upper portion of leg and low back at night than in the knee itself. It’s keeping me awake most of the night. Any suggestions on exercises I can do at home to help with this? I’m still unable to lift my leg. So frustrating. My knee was swollen and in bad shape at the time of surgery so I knew that I might not be one of those who are up and at em a week after surgery. Joined your Facebook group as well. Thank you for putting this out there for us. ❤️

This is very timely. I am 6 weeks post op and my knee feels great but I had spinal fusion 9 months ago and now have some more stenosis Causing pain in my hip and “buzzing” in the shin, both on the same side as the knee. The hypersensitivity of the knee has kept me awake at night. Finally saw my back surgeon and we came up with a non surgical (I hope) plan with my physical therapist to relieve my symptoms. The sooner the better!!

I found this video so helpful. I have a question if you can maybe help me. About 2 months after TKR I began having pain all through my body. Under my ribs, squeezing around my ribs, upper back pain, lower back pain. Discomfort under shoulder blades. I know my arms hurt from pushing myself up all the time. I have been to a few doctors. Bloodwork, ultrasound all good. They think it's all muscular. Can this be normal from my surgery?? I have never had discomfort throughout my body like this. Anyone else maybe have this issue??

I had so much liw back pain I went to ER night before last. My knee pain I can handle. I feel like I'm giving birth, actually. I've had bulging disks and stuff 5 years ago. But this us terrible. Had a Scan of my back Tuesday. 2 bulging discs, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, both arthritis and DDD. I was told I need back surgery years ago. I'm actually in a rehab facility now. They say I'm doing fantastic but the pain is just unbearable. Totally lost my appetite. Eat 1 or 2 bites per meal for a week now. Hoping that improves. Thanks for your video. Holy Cow, that shopping cart thing has fit me to a tee. Thanks again. I did so much better today. I'm independent in my room now. Going home Sunday. Take care.

Thank you. You’ve explained spinal stenosis. I also have calf muscle pain in both legs and top of my thighs near the groin. I was absolutely fine up to week 9 and then the sciatica pain started. All the GP will do is give me more pain killers. Lifting things has exacerbated it and the TKR joint. So I would like to know what the limits should be. (68 yr old female U.K.).

Really enjoyed podcast they really helped me after my TKR. I have a question I am at 105° after three months and Dr wants to do MUA. How can you tell if the ligaments are scar tissue. I have keloid on outer scars before but never had any other joint work done. Thanks so much
@totaltherapysolutions3 жыл бұрын
I am not sure there is any way to definitely tell. Your therapist might be able to distinguish muscle guarding from ligament tightness. The skin healing with a keloid scar doesn't tell us anything about the internal scarring. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer.
