So are you going to do a similar design to what I showed or will you be using the layouts to build your own?!

I've been (re)styling my coal generator lines over the past few days to look more like nice buildings before expanding and will def be using these in the new builds! Mostly the input systems, they look very streamlined, nice work! I think I may have gone a bit overboard with detailing on my chimneys, but hey, at least they look nice

I’ve put off oil production until after FICSMAS. I built a giant present for a building and I’m all set to automate the wonder star, and the upstairs area I’ve created a gift mass production line that (when full) will house about 18 million gifts (will take about 133 irl hours to fill) (doing my part to provide presents for my home planet ☺️). Extra nonsense aside…..I have 3 max OC water gens, each feeding 6 coal gens (3 manifolds) that are being fed by an OC’d mk2 miner (normal) producing 270/min. So 18 coal gens in a line producing 1350MW.

I personally reserve overclocking to be strictly used on resource Extractors (other than Water), because those are the only things that are actually limited in the game. Everything else is infinite, so it is always more efficient to just build another one, rather than pay the ongoing cost of power and use a Shard which itself is a limited resource.
@ronhatch9175
@ronhatch9175 2 жыл бұрын
I almost completely agree... but when I set up my first nuclear power plant and realized how many water extractors I'd need without overclocking, I decided that water wasn't going to be the exception anymore. Sure, there's enough water in the game that you don't need to overclock, but that many would be an eyesore that I'd rather avoid.
@ronhatch9175
@ronhatch9175 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and as far as getting started, though... I'd recommend an 80% underclock supplying two generators rather than a 150% overclock supplying four. When you first get coal power, no sense in wasting power for that water.
@dondumitru7093
@dondumitru7093 2 жыл бұрын
@@ronhatch9175 Yah, I do exceptions myself, like hand-fed production lines for making parts for the Space Elevator, I put shards in the Manufacturers rather than build a whole bunch of the buildings. But really my point is to emphasize the things that are actually limited, like resources extracted from nodes, as well as your power production (until you build more, and until you run out of the raw inputs), vs. things that are effectively unlimited like your ability to build another building. And the count of shards is actually limited in the game (unless you use a mod), so shards being limited, they "should" only be used on things that themselves are also limited.

Tip: Pumps also work as valves, you don't need to power them. Fluid 'bounce' can be avoided by prefilling your system before turning it on. Any multiplication of 8:3 will work on a single line if you place a water extractor every 4 generators due to the way water is split at junctions and consumed just afterward but you must complete the full 8:3 sets. So 16:6 and 32:12 on a single Mark I pipeline is possible.

Thank you so much for the guide! Biofuel generators have been so far my biggest frustration since starting out recently and I'm so ecstatic about finally being able to automate my power, my second Hard Drive research even gave me compacted coal, so the eight coal burners you suggested is going to end up lasting me a long while! Thank you again!

Thanks very much for this! I just got the game a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I followed starter advice of: don't look anything up, get your feet wet first to learn what you need to do, and only look up plans afterwards. Once I did that, and realized how much of a pain it was to transport coal far and water much farther and uphill, I found this video. Starting with my third new save, I've gone with the three water stations to eight coal plants pretty much as you show, though with ugly clipping with the pipes and conveyors, which I can just build walls around to hide. Getting mark 2 miners and finding two normal coal nodes right by a big lake, I've actually repeated the layout three more times because why not? I'm now easily producing three times as much as my max consumption, which should give me plenty of room to grow and take my time before scrambling to get oil figured out halfway decently.

i got to 5 additional biofuel (not on hub) before focusing down the tech and hunting down the coal. The upkeep was driving me nuts. I kept the biofuel for overflow (because the power storage seems super temperamental) as I had already automated the chainsaw fuel by that point. Later also added in a biomass system due to the green goop landing pads as the lucky earlygame jetpack is near impossible to fuel up without bagging it for 3-4 minutes between uses.

Brought my first U5 coal plant online last night; I'm getting pretty quick with it. The fun part for me is the startup sequence, with the biomass cold boot powering the miners to pre-load the generators to avoid the manifold "spin-up." Then the water extractors, and once the coal comes online connect their outputs to the startup grid and power down the biomass. Only then connect to the main grid. It's better once I get Switches and can make it a pretty control room, and I can't wait to incorporate signs and soft clearances!

I always enjoy using the tall smoke stack looking things for the generators, and refineries, to make the buildings look more industrial. Although there is the mark 2 pipe, with 600 limit, I've heard it was bugged in the past and am a little wary of using it. Although farming biomass isn't always a pain... I built a small biofuel gen building, that has a lower floor to convert all of the biomass into solid biomass, that contains about 20 biofuel generators in the beginning of my game. Reason being is that while clearing areas, and creatures, I normally end up able to feed them all easily. Plus since biofuel has the awesome perk of not using the fuel, unless needed, I have a buffer when I do start with coal and build bigger than originally anticipated.

Alternative piping that stops the fluid bounce on 8 Generator lines. Feed 2 Water Extractors in from 1 end of the single Manifold that's connected to all 8 Generators. Much like done here but without the upside down U's and from the End rather than staggered in the middle. Feed the 3rd Extractor using a + Junction between Machines 5 & 6. This extra insert fills in the space at the other end of the Single Manifold pipe. As long as you keep the Manifold at the same level or no less than 2m below(you can go above of course)the Generator's inputs you should get Zero back flow. I suggest letting the Generators and water network pre-fill by switching them off before letting the whole think run.

My very strong recommendation is to NEVER attempt to consume the max liquid capacity of any pipe. So for Mk.1 Pipe, don't put consumers that total 300, and for a Mk.2 Pipe, don't put consumers that total 600. Just don't do it. You might be tempted to do it because "100% efficient" but the headaches are just not worth it. And if the liquid happens to be Water, always, always, always overproduce Water into the Pipe. If you don't do this, you will spend HOURS trying to troubleshoot why your buildings are not quite getting enough liquid, and especially for power generation that means your power production will end up fluctuating instead of being rock-solid. Honestly, save yourself a huge amount of headache, and just always over-produce water, and always under-consume from any Pipe, if you possibly can. The fundamental mechanism that causes the problems is that because Pipes are not directional, liquids can actually slosh back-and-forth within pipes, and having the pipe content being fully consumed just means more room in the pipe for sloshing. You need enough room in the pipe to keep it "pressurized" (which causes it to act in a more unidirectional way), which means not having consumers that consume the full capacity of the Pipe, and having extractors that push at least a little bit extra into the Pipe. (If you are dealing with Oil or another liquid, then you'll need to end up using Fluid Buffers in order to get the full production capacity out of the Extractors and to smooth out the flow thru Pipes, but that is a more advanced topic.)

Well said. I spent hours and hours chasing my tail only to discover that mk2 pipes weren’t carrying the full 600 cubic meters with a quick online search. Then I started down the rabbit hole of checking my pipes and discovered the same situation you describe in my coal plant with the sloshing ;)

@@djolegameplay1089 Does the coal from the source stop and start, or does it keep running continuously? If it is continuous and some generators are starving, it means you simply don't have enough coal to feed all the generators. If it is stop and start, then something is wrong with the belt connections for the generators which are getting 0 coal.

Love your tutorials. Personally I'd build the base for the coal generators up a little so all that clipping underneath isn't going on. I know it isn't visible... But I KNOW it's there lol. I like to build the entire base up and then build the extractors underneath. Similar to how Nihlaus (sp?) Has done in he is vids. But I use the pipe holes and have the pipes 1 off the floor ( so I can still walk underneath them and so I can easily line up the pipe cross to the hole, hopefully they create some easier way to do this in the future)

Interesting build and I also find it even more interesting how do you use the pipes as a manifold. I personally might build like using the buffer tanks since it gives it a unique look and also creates a gravity feed to increase the pressure in the pipe preventing any backflow from occurring. But to each of our own since we both have different thoughts and tastes on what things should look like and we both like to express ourselves a certain way. Thank you for sharing this with us and keep up the good work that you do. Also God bless you sir and please stay well, safe and hopefully enjoy your life which I would imagine it's a good one.

This is pretty informative, as I pretty much do a rule of 2:1:3 (2 extractors, 1 miner mk II, to 3 generators) to get it working. It's not 100% efficient as there's backups on both the water and coal, but it works decent enough. I just have the misfortune of laying down a battery bank of probably about 50 batteries that are mostly charged now and they're 1 meter off to one side and they don't fit neatly into the wall grid. . . . It's one of those Satisfactory memes you only get if you've done something kind of similar. Easier solution almost seems like it'd be better to reconstruct the entire floor instead of losing all of that power, but yeah. It's my cringe.

Have you made a guide on overclocked coal generators and how to effieciently made a good setup on that? Even though it uses more power o nthe extractor, I noticed overclocked generators require increasingly less resources to a max of like 91m^3 water and just over 30 coal, barely twice the resources at 250% (though I'm pretty sure the power max is also slightly less than a new generator) I haven't ran all the numbers, but the trade-off of extractor power is lower than the increased generator production, making it worth it from what I can tell. It also almost perfectly uses a single pure coal node per 4 generators - but the problem is, you couldn't really use an extractor that's not overclocked on 2 or more generators, making resources and space required for water much higher. (not that coppers hard to come by, and I'm not sure if there's better pipes and extractors later in the game as I've never made it to space elevator lvl 3 yet)

When you place down an miner building click on it, you should see in the lower left the production of coal. A coal generator uses 15 coal per minute. So divide the production number by 15 and that will give you how many coal generators that miner can run. But note along a manifold the initial generators will be prioritised first

Not sure if i do something wrong but when i try have the pipe go upp in the pipeline floor hole i dont get enought flow upp to my coal generator. i have max flow upp to the hole but on the other side there is almost nothing. Only thing that helps its eather to put another layer upp so i can fit a pump ore drag the pipe and clip the pipe throw the floor in to the generator. enyone has the same problem?

Having an issue with the water pumps, set it all up just like you did. But for some reason the pumps don't fill up or pump properly they don't fill up their own tank and also don't produce enough water to fill the rest of the pipes any suggestions?

if you wanted the coal delivered evenly, youd make an expanding pyramid design of conveyor splitters...

At full capacity manifolds work as efficiently as load balancers, but take up less room, hence why I've done that here 🙂

None of them seem to be getting enough water despite all the water pipes underneath being full of water. One of the pumps also just turns off while the other keeps pumping.

Manifold lines never seem to work for me. The generators at the end will always be at a deficit, they will turn off constantly. No amount of time will fix this issue. I also manually filled each generator with coal to try and kick start it. They just drain out and go back to idle, while the first 3 in the line stay capped at 100. You would think that since they are at 100 the overflow would be enough, but even the 4th generator stays at 1 or 0 ore just idling on and off. This doesn't change with time.

if I have space I under clock my pumps to push 100lt so it can feed 2 generators. I feed a water tank then divide the output to 2 generator and call it a day. it also allows me to seperate the power grids easier if I need to. And it is more compact and fits in smaller puddles. 8 generators plus 3 pumps work fine but If something goes wrong your whole power system fails. I will spend the extra resources to make more buildings. I am frankly against compact building styles in Satisfactory. Makes no sense. you have awhole continent for your to expoint but you build tightly... When I build I first build tightly but remove one machine from in between. so I always have one machine space in between. And I always run manifolds now because it is infinitely expandable. One thing I have learnt playing Satisfacory is that because its prerelease we are getting more features and sometimes these break your factory because you didnt plan for it. I just started a new game with Update 6 experimental and right now I am building everything on ground first. in my initial setup and creating the initial parts factory seperately not connected to grid yet. and I am leaving 2 machine spaces in between machines and every machine has atleast one power storage next to it. The output lines will connect to a conveyor loop that pushes Items all over the factories so I have access to material in all my factories. my reasoning is that Satisfacory is growing and the factories needs to be expandable easily and if you decide you want to change it, the whole systems should not come to an halt.

I think I'm confused. I followed the build to T, even with the overclocking to 150% on the water extractors, and using a mark 2 conveyor belt all the way to the coal source, and my last 4 generators are still sporadically turning on and off because they aren't receiving coal as fast as the other generators. Is it something I've done wrong or is this just how the build is and if I want more power I need to route from a second coal source?
@TotalXclipse
@TotalXclipse 2 жыл бұрын
If you've done it correctly then this will happen until the manifold fills up, you just need to leave it running - should be fine when you return to it in an hour or so
@Keldor314
@Keldor314 2 жыл бұрын
If you want it to fill up faster, you can shut off each of the generators until they're all full. Or just shut off the water, that involves less button pushing.

By using scroll wheel.
@migdalinhasnolastname708

@@johnnn76 Scroll wheel turns it horizontally. I think the answer is to use the "change placement style" (? can't remember right now what it's called). I haven't tried it. I went with a simpler design that uses 4 water extractors all set to 75%. It uses a bit more power, but doesn't seem to have the problem of intermittent idling of the coal plants due to backwash.
@caesaraugustus8281
@caesaraugustus8281 2 жыл бұрын
@@migdalinhasnolastname708 scroll wheel effects it based on direction the pipe is going. rotates vertically if pipe is going horizontal, or horizontally if pipe is going vertically. :)

Use the biomass gens to kick-start the coal generators, and then once that happens connect the goal generator to that circuit and you should be able to run the water extractors from that power.
