Jay was a lonely person according to Roman Polanski. I always found it amazing Sebring became Polanski's friend after Sharon Tate broke up with him after falling in love with Polanski. He kept a friendship with Sharon. He even died for her. RIP Jay - on the 50th anniversary of your tragic death by the hands of the Manson family Aug 09 1969-Aug 09 2019.

I had to look up the female jockey because it raised red flags with me, as I knew women were not allowed to become licensed jockeys until the late 1960s, several years after this episode. A very few women were jockeys in this country, but they worked unlicensed. It wasn't until 1968 that one woman, Kathy Kusner, successfully sued a state racing commission to be able to be licensed to be a jockey in that state. Diane Crump was the first licensed female jockey to ride in a Thoroughbred parimutuel race in the U.S. It was a big story back then.

Afterwards Jay in turn invited Quincy out to dinner the next night, for them to meet up at Sharon Tate's house on Cielo drive. Quincy says he forgot. Jay Sebring was the top hairstylist in the world before being murdered in gruesome fashion along with actress Sharon tate and 3 others on August 9 1969 by the infamous Charles Manson gang Sebring was known as the hairstylist to the stars the dreadful fate he met included 1 gunshot wound and 7 stab wounds before being strung up by rope to hang from rafters 20 ft above floor

This is from Jim Markham a friend of Jay Sebring. Jay was the celebrity hairstylist in 1960s Hollywood who had famous clients including Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman. He also allegedly hustled drugs to some of the stars at his salons, earning him the moniker “The Candyman.” So as much of a good guy Jay was, he wasn't innocent at all. Jim goes on to say "I believe Manson had gone up to the house and Manson wanted to sell cocaine and marijuana,” he added. “He showed Jay [Sebring] and Wojciech [Frykowski] the product. They were going to buy some of it, but the two of them beat him up at the gate. The next night, Manson sent the Family up [to kill them] ....and to burn them for whatever money and drugs they could. I believe Wojciech was to blame. Sharon hated him and wanted his drug dealing ass out of her house. He even ran Sharon's dog Dr Saperstein over just days before the murders!! Quite the cover up huh??

After Doris Tate had passed away, her other daughter, Patti, continued the fight to keep those Manson Family animals behind bars. But unfortunately, Patti passed away from breast cancer back in 2000 at the age of 43. And now, Doris Tate's other daughter, Debra, is continuing the fight for the same reason. Unfortunately, Debra is now the only surviving member of the Tate family. (Their father, Paul Tate, passed away back in 2005.)

poetcomic1 I guess a $25 haircut today would be a little above average but you are talking about the mid 60’s when most men went to a Barbershop, they didn’t go to Salons. Jay Sebering was a Stylist to the Stars and $25 wa a lot of money. You can still get a haircut and style today from the best, but it’s going to cost you $197.00 in today’s money. Back in the early 80’s I was going to Mario Tracoci’s in Chicago and paying $50 and that was for a 45 minute haircut. Not sure about the change thing. I mean if I want I can go to a chain salon and get a haircut for $18.

@Mike Ross Absolutely. But Sinatra (Sebring's first top client) got a soft, natural image changing look from him that would have well been worth $200 in 1953 money!

This show brings the tragedy to life so to speak. Jay was a real person rather than just a photograph in Helter Skelter. Inside Hollywood people knew Sharon and jay. This case scared the bejesus out of the entire nation but had to really shake up those in the entertainment industry. So sad and such a waste.
