Totem Pole Carving

The Assembly of First Nations sponsored the carving of a 10ft totem pole by Dewey Smith, which was donated to the OneXOne Foundation and was auctioned off by Matt Damon at their September 8th, 2008 Gala during the Toronto International Film Festival. The OneXOne Foundation is committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children in Canada, and around the world.

Totally awesome as we say in Sweden, want to make a totem pole, gets inspiration, but I don't think I can make such a Beauty. Nice story by the way!

I've got a bit of Oak I think. About a foot-foot and a half thick. and about 2-3 feet long. Gonna try and carve it into something soon. Not really sure what though.

How long after the tree is down do you have to wait to carve it? Can you use oak or is pine the best if you cannot have cedar?
