PS: Your continuous enthusiasm keep me enthused in enjoying my XK8R. Sometimes its hard to stay completely loyal and wanting to keep the cars in great order. But I am much older than you, and don't have the luxury of a garage! Keep going for all our sakes!!!!!!!!!!

WOW John, I so much appreciate you for featuring my car on your channel, I am a friend to the channel but better yet, a friend of yours. You are an incredible man and a incredible KZbinr.. Hugs coming your way from the other side of the very large "pond". BTW, the vid of the brake work was again spot on.. I got to do front suspension work soon because of the knocking noise and I know nothing about this type of work.

Hi John, It's so great to watch your videos - because of Corona, I'm not able to drive my XKR convertible, though the weather here in Germany is brilliant right now. At least I can watch you driving through the Lincolnshire countryside and imagine it's me!! Thanks so much! More power to your elbow! Charly

Very nice and honest video showing the pain. I forget just how bad British roads are with the salt they use which makes everything rust. Looking forward to the next series.

@@ToTheGarage Hi John, Started to replace my discs and rotors with EBC similar to yours. Terrible corrosion on calipers, but managed to clean them up. Driver’s side bleed nipple was a pig to get off, but finally worked it free. However, when I got to left side caliper the bleed screw had ‘lost’ its hexagon and gained molegrip rash at some time in its past. It was TIGHT. I realised that I stood a good chance of shearing it because of the hole down the centre and that fact that I was also going to need to use molegrips to get it out. SO… extensive research on line. Soaked the nipple with diesel (no Plusgas!); heated the caliper with a gas torch and immediately cooled the nipple with pipe freeze down the hole in the centre; then quickly tapped a 3.5mm drill, shank end first, into the nipple to support the thin walls and went to work with the molegrips. A quick wiggle left and right and lo and behold it came out. I was so pleased. The rears are next!

Hi Alan Loved the idea of using the drill bit as a mandrel to support the nipple Alan. Good luck with the rears👍👍👍

@@ToTheGarage The rear bleed nipples came out fine, but I have ordered four to replace all round. Have you seen the price of bleed nipples?!?

Good work. I felt for you struggling with those corroded parts! Your brake shields look pretty tidy though. My larger Brembo shields were very rotten at the bottom but I managed to find a replacement pair on eBay. I had them bead blasted, zinc sprayed and I painted them. So far so good! I reckon the previous owner did a lot of driving on salted roads. Looking forward to the next episode.

Better even than Edd China (my hero) because you showed the real life pain of just getting a few nuts undone. Absolutely brilliant! #keepinitreal Check out how much a new backplate is versus refurbishing the old one.

BLIMEY. Thanks Ric. Nobody has ever compared me to Edd China unless it was related to unruly hair previously. I will take that! Thank you. I will check out the back plate costs. Good Call👍 Thanks for watching mate.

Great info on brakes,as always. Have you ever had issues with trunk lights not working and the micro switch in the latch that controls them? Keep up the great work!
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gordon When I first had my original XK8, the trunk light did not work. Turned out the micro switch was missing!. It had obviously caused som issues and had been removed by a previous owner. I ended up buying a new (used) latch complete with microswitch to resolve it.

Hi John, good vidio what I am doing I brought some S/h spare calipers complete, new piston and seals set, get these up to spec all very cheap off ebay.When done will simply swop new for old (well re-furbished by my own fair hands). Lovely to see you struggle in real time, as we all do. Mine is off to a company in Tipton next week for a completed undersealing job, company called Krown Rustproofing. I will report back after the event. Do you have a view/opinion on XK8 tyres, about to replace 4 on mine due to age, not wear.

Looking into the tyres at the moment Bruce. Pirrelli PZero is the original equipment and I have changed my previous cars from Dunlop back to Zero and beanery Happy. Expensive though!

As always John great video but please invest in some Snap On tools 🛠 it worth the expense you can get used ones on EBay which will save you a few bucks , your friend seemed to be more of a hindrance than a help although I am sure he meant well, FYI when removing the caliper clips just use a flat blade screwdriver under the little loop right next to where the end goes into the caliper, and cover the clip with your other hand because they can fly.
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jagvette! Good tip ref the clip removal. I will try that on the other side. Keen observational skills re the extra hands and extra voice. That's my father in law. He means well! He has not got the memory to remember that i am filming and so regularly moves the tripod out of my way🙄! Things take a lot longer than they should sometimes🤯 But I would not have it any other way.

I love nice tools but the transition from cheap and cheerful that I had when I was 20 to the nicer more recent purchases is an evolution that has taken over 30 years to get to the point where half of my tools are 'nice' so dont hold your breath🤣. Unless i win the lottery🤔
