Hi, im a huge Toto fan, in my opinion they are one of the best bands around, they're also some of the best musicians you could hire to produce an album for you, theres just one issue ive got with this video, guys, its not live apart from the vocals, i mean theres no lead out the back of the keyboard lol and no drum mics, so how on earth they recorded a live sound id love to know lol, but i will say, it wudnt of been toto's choice to do that lol, neway, Toto OWN!!! Joe

Ha, I see your point.. :) I guess the TV networks agree with you, as a true live performance is rarely seen nowadays on shows. However, I very much appreciate the extra effort some TV productions make to prepare a live performance to really be live. P.S. Although being pre-recorded, Toto made this one really well IMO. For example Simon played the drum fills almost identically with the recording. Lights are impressive, too.

The medley was recorded live during a soundcheck of the tour a few days prior to the performance on Wetten Dass, as the TV Station didn´t allow them to play live at the show.

The difference between Toto live and Toto playback are the plugged in cable. Just because of the sound you nearly never are abled to hear a difference ;)

most TV shows are playback. They don`t do an out-line, soundcheck, pay for a technician for just 4 minutes.

Simon Phillips do not play his official signature set. its a studio drumset from the zdf. All heads are completely with caoutchouc and the cymbals also have a special burden which mutes the cymbal. Yesterday I visited the ZDF in Mainz and they showed me the drumset. But toto is still the best group!

Einfach die beste Band der Welt. Die Leute die sagen das wäre Playback ich persönlich glaube nicht das Toto Playback spielt. Okay das Keyboard hat in diesem Fall allerdings Tatsächlich keine Kabel angeschlossen. Der Rest allerdings ist 100% kein Playback. Und Simon Phillips beweißt hier mal wieder wie genial er ist auf einen so kleinen Set so gut zu spielen wie auf seinen großen ist genial.Wenn man nicht hinsieht würde es nur auffallen das die Toms nicht ganz so tief gehen wie sonst .

I think he is a lot more pissed about playing to a playback. He and the entire band are such professionals. When you look at his eyes you can pretty much hear him think “ridiculous“. But that's just german TV shows I guess, play to a playback or not at all... But maybe the drums were the tip of the Iceberg to top ot all of. He looks annoyed for sure. Not like the Live performing Simon I know and love.

Absolutely a play back audio feed. Not a single Drum mic on the kit. And during Rosanna he isn't hitting the crash and you can hear the crash in the audio feed.

Jeff was the best.. I don't complain about Simon he is doing awesome job and is a great drummer but Jeff was much more creative type!! I mean that's one of the reasons why the older toto songs sounds as good as they do. Of Mike Porcaro is awesome too!! he is the second creater of those grooves!!

it´s definitely a complete playback, but: no other band would go to studio and record a (very live sounding medley) tape and take it on tour through german tv talk and "live" shows. :-) simply professional - otherwise expect to toto :-)

@spawette Das sollte jedem mit ein bisschen Ahnung von Musik klar sein das dies nicht Live ist. Es ist sehr sehr selten das in Fernsehshows Live gespielt wird. Im Deutschen Fernsehen gibt es das so gut wie garnicht. Von Chartshow bis Wetten dass ist alles Playback! In Amerika ist es nicht ganz so extrem aber auch vertreten. Vorallem Pop-Bands spielen oft Playback. Bekannte Rockbands eher weniger.

Also manche meinen schon sie würden was von Musik verstehen und jaulen hier "Playback" durch die Gegend, dabei hört man ganz deutlich dass der Gesang live ist, die Musik selber kommt vom Tape. Halbplayback nennt man sowas und ist zB beim Eurovision Song Contest Gang und Gebe.

It must be Playback... no monitoring-systems and no mics at the Drums and so on... (Kann Schnabeltier714 nur recht geben. Aber leider ist es eher so das TV Total sich dadurch extrem abhebt. Kaum ein "Live"Auftritt im TV ist wirklich live. Dafür wird TV Total ja auch ständig gelobt.)

ähh ich denke das es teilweise playback ist da das schlagzeug nicht abgenommen wird und ohne abnehmen niemals so laut ist um die ganze halle zu beschallen und die gitare ist angeschlossen. im 20 jahrhundert gibt es so was das nennt man funksender. damit nicht überall kabel herum ligen und die bühnen arbeiter sich darum keine sorgen machen müssen.
