This is indeed an epic song: so many different sounds, colors and rhythms. There's always more to discover and I enjoy listening to it every time.

amazing song, it is like they put the best drummer the best vocalist the pianist and the best guitarist in the world togheter and they simply said: have fun boys. It is truely remarkable.

This is what is so great about this channel. Before the song is explained to you, it's just a song. Afterwards you understand that it was just a great jam session caught on tape, effectively...

Sensational band playing an ageless, phenomenal song, accompanied by a breath-taking woman. I've had a crush on Cynthia Rhodes for many, many years.

This song to me and many others of Toto are tight together with legendary Dutch radio dj Alfred 'Big Al' Lagarde. He was a HUGE Toto fan who wanted to make everyone a Toto fan. R.I.P. Big Al.

This was always my favorite song by Toto. It still sounds so beautiful as when it was first released. They picked the perfect girl for their video....Cynthia Rhodes who was in Flashdance and Dirty Dancing.❤️

I've always said the stuffed Suit critics can go pound sand!!! (Especially Robert Hilburn) The millions upon millions of Toto fans from all across the world are the ones who make the final decisions, Period!!!! They are extremely popular in Europe and parts of Asia. They are masterfully talented musicians and song writers, whose beloved tunes will last as long as this planet does. Rip Jeff and Mike, get well soon Bobby.

Back then here was a big difference between what audiences liked and what critics liked, because especially in the 70s and 80s the 'hip' rockpress had a very narrowminded view on what was 'tasteful' or 'honest' rockmusic. Bands that could actually play their instrument, write a decent arrangement and also score a view hits, that just wasn't "cool"
@eamonnmorris53312 жыл бұрын
@@raymondhartmeijer9300 Sad to say, I have to agree with you, at least in part. Listening - as a musician - at the time, there was nothing 'cooler' for me than the Steely Dan/Doobie Bros./ Boz/ McDonald/ Loggins etc. line of excellence. I would say that Toto represented or at least equaled the commercial and musical 'pinnacle' of that line (not to mention that they played on most of those sessions). If one's idea of 'cool' starts with the Sex Pistols and the Clash and ends with the Talking Heads (all darlings of the 'hip' rock press) then I take your point, though I have always been a little out of synch I am happy to say.

Fun fact: "We were closer to Steely dan than the sex pistols" the beat you hear was inspired by steely dan: home at last, and Led Zeppelin: fool in the rain. We have 3 drumming legends right here

I like both Sex Pistols and Toto. Especially because you were a high school band and I can imagine how wonderful it must have been to actually have seen you making music back in the days. Typical music for sweet memories. On the other hand, I was really into punk and metal too. Yet I can't help to think that Steve likes metal too 😉

Song title named after actress Rosanna Arquette, who coincidentally walked into the room when the lyrics were being written. Lyrics inspired by an unnamed high-school crush. Music was largely improvised in the first take.

I don't get why a karaoke version of Hold The Line was used then cuts to the original at the chorus onwards. I'm guessing the record label who owns the rights to it won't let anyone near the mastertape. If that's the case David and Luke need to start gaining the rights to their albums. Even if it's just one.
