used to be in a cover band (only when I was young) and hardly ever hear the drummers unless there's something wrong, but the drum voicing and performance stood out to me in this performance and have been listening to this and a few other tracks daily for the last couple of weeks. Plenty of recordings of later performances, and they're good - but none are as good as this version. Different guys, different equipment, different amp for Lukather. Porcaro is enough some something extra that even non-drummers can hear it and then tell when he's not there.

Multi Camzilla lmfao "Tube HD Cameras" the first 2k HD cameras were used for the principal filming of the Lord of the Rings. Cost of each camera was $225,000. They used 4 Arri 2k HD cameras. The issue here is HD has been around for a long time the problem was the expensive workflow hardware needed. Industrial 35 mm high ISO film is still higher than anything Digital out there. Unless you have a Camera that can shoot native at 8000x8000 you are never going to match the quality of Film.

Danfuerth Gills. You are not correct, broadcast HD has been in development since the mid 1980s. They even shot the Genesis Invisible Touch concert in 1986 in HD video. Read and learn about this Toto show right here: "The entire Jazz Festival was recorded using the Sony HDVS system, 1125 lines interlaced analog component video signal. with 16x9 aspect ratio. So it is basically 1080i when converted to digital. The audio was recorded with 2 Sony 48 track DASH digital recorders at 16 bit resolution 48 KHz sample rate. The VTR's used to record the concert recorded the analog component HD video digitally along with separate 8 channel 16 bit 48 Khz audio, so a 8 channel audio sub mix was fed to the truck to be recorded to the tape with the video. The production used 5 cameras 4 Sony HDC-300 3 tube HDVS cameras and one Sony HDC-500 3 CCD HDVS camera (a prototype). The 5 cameras where fed into an 8 input HDS-1000T switcher a ,live mix was recorded to an HDD-1000 Digital 1" VTR. Three of the cameras where also directly run to their own HDD-1000 VTR(ISO CAMS) so that more shots could be added or changed in post production. The entire system of 4 VTR's and 2 DASH audio recorders was synced through the use of SMPTE time code. The output of the switcher was also fed through a Sony HDN-22000 NTSC/PAL down-converter, the output of which was recorded on Betacam SP and D2 to allow local broadcast outlets have copies of the jazz festival for use in their broadcasts."

There are so many great bands that are not in the R&RHoF. Jann Wenner is a gatekeeper who is a petty little man. It's not cool who has been passed over for years due to musical politics. Why is Harry Nilsson not in the R&RHoF and the Dave Clark 5 is? It makes no sense. Anyways, Toto not being in the R&RHoF is insane and just not cool. Jann Wenner is the worst.

@PhillipLandmeier
@PhillipLandmeier Жыл бұрын
@@perryfisher3373 I hear you, but I think that comparing top drummers or top guitarists is kind of pointless because each is so different. Top musicians can play just about anything. It's down to what they want to play, not what they can play. Neil always seemed to me to be into stretching the envelope and doing creative / unusual things. Jeff was the quintessential studio / session drummer, who could play anything, any style, immediately on the spot, while smoking a cigarette and chatting with you if you were standing next to him. He was a drumming machine. Did you know that Jeff played on a Pink Floyd track? Yeah. The timing and rhythm of the song "Mother" was so difficult that Nick couldn't play it. So Gilmour called Jeff to see if he'd come into the studio and try it. He played it straight off and that's what's on the album. With practice, Nick later learned to play it. And don't forget Steve Gadd, the "groove" machine and capable of improvising mind-blowing solos on the spot. Consider Steely Dan's "Aja". The drumming and sax you hear on the album is Gadd and Wayne Shorter on take one and two. That 32 measure outro at the end, the two of them made up on the fly during the first and second takes, at which point they were done. The rest of the band collapsed and stopped playing just to watch those two do their thing. Blew their minds. The remaining musicians then spent the next three days trying to equal what Steve and Wayne had done. Comparisons of musicians at that level of skill and talent are pretty pointless. Just appreciate each genius individually.

Jeff Porcaro was and is my biggest inspiration as a drummer. He didn’t crave the spotlight but just made everyone he played with sound better. I grew up as a teen in the eighties and as I look back, a majority of the songs that to me really spoke to me, I later found out were played by Jeff. Even some relatively obscure things I listened to then I later found out had Jeff on them. I have to say, knowing that there was controversy surrounding his death, he just doesn’t look healthy here. I’m sure the smoking doesn’t help. I know drumming is far more physical than most instruments but he is sweating profusely. Auxiliary percussion is quite physical as well, but compare them. As for Mike Porcaro, also an exceptional player, I can sympathize with his family as my mother died just a month ago from ALS and one of my best friends has it as well. As my mother said before she passed, (at least as well as she could, considering it makes it almost impossible to speak) this is a miserable way to die.

@justinharris1199 2 жыл бұрын
 @Vinnie Moran Its not film. its shot on HD video tape, WIth HD 3 Tube colour cameras. thats why you can see streaking / comet tail effect on the picture. from 4:02 to 4:11 you can see the cameras themselves and that streaking effect. 35mm would be very costly especially for a one of long multi camera shoot like this.

Yupper same here, I always knew they were a great pop band, BUT! I grew up listening to some of the best musicians during the 70’s and 80’s so I thought that that was the norm. I knew that they had been session musicians, but that still didn’t seal the deal for me because I thought of them as too poppy. Well maybe so, but I’m absolutely glad I got to live through this time period. I do look back on those times fondly even if they weren’t always so. The more I listen to them now, the more I appreciate not just their musicianship but their creativity and imagination. Just wow.
