At last weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, a last lap fastest lap for Daniel Riccardo generated a huge amount of attention. Up until that point, Max Verstappen’s title rival Lando Norris had held the fastest lap. With how close the drivers championship is at the moment, that one point taken away from Norris could prove absolutely vital come the end of the season. Considering the relationship between Red Bull and VCARB, Zak Brown was furious after the Grand Prix but Toto Wolff has leapt to his defense. Today, I’ll check out Zak’s complaints about Red Bull and why Toto Wolff has shockingly come to their defense, so don’t go anywhere.

Norris should be much closer to Max anyway, considering the times he lost the lead on lap 1 by his own volition and then failed to win the race. I think Hammy, Russell, Leclerc, Max driving this McLaren this year would probably be P1 in the championship by now. Yes Mclaren have dropped the ball a bit but so has Lando.

Clean air is extremely important. I can see why Mclaren were hesitant to make Oscar the No2 as Oscar has the killer instinct combined with being cool under pressure. It feels like his ceiling may be higher than Landos coupled with the correct attitude to win. I honestly think Oscar will beat Lando next year and Mclaren know it.

If there were to be a change to the fastest lap rule, I think a good adjustment would be to have the fastest lap by anyone be a token prize and the fastest lap among the top 10 finishers be awarded 1 point. This eliminates the ability for drivers at the back to steal points off the championship points contenders.

He wasn't winning only reason he was in the first place in the first place is because team pitted Norris first and not Piastri who was leading. Its well known that the driver ho is leading gets first pick of pit stop. So if mcl did things correctly Norris wouldn't never wouldn't be in that position since Piastri was clearly fastest on track.

Few races ago they were shouting through the radio how Lando should give position back to Piastri, now they're crying over Ricciardo's fastes lap... C'mon guys. And about the fastest lap point. The reason that they don't award points for the fastest lap to anyone finishing lower than 10th is because everyone outside the top 10 would then pit for fresh softs on the last lap and have a shoot out for the fastest lap. One of them will always take it because they would have less fuel and fresh tyres. Then you are just giving points to a driver and team that weren't fast enough to finish in the top ten. Finishing 20th with the fastest lap shouldn't reward the same amount of points as finishing 10th. You need to have a successful race to be rewarded with points, not just one successful lap

And the rest of the grid would develop very interesting tactics for this last point right at the end of the race. It would naturally increase the competition and 'sports popularity' imo... Better than opening ceremonies, like for example in Las Vegas where the drivers were really standing there like some clowns.

I'm a McLaren fan hands down, but honestly this should not be an issue. Any other team could have taken the point (like Haas tried). Plus, as many mentioned on the comments, if a single point is that important what happened in Hungary? McLarens' strategy made no sense back then and they should have already prioritized Norris. No fault to Oscar, but Lando was and is the McLaren driver in the best position to take the WDC. That being said, there are still many points on the table. I'm glad Ricciardo got the lap; if this is his send off, he showed us he still had speed left in him.

How about, any stragglers (as you call them) cannot claim fastest lap to take the extra point from someone in the main points? It can still count as a track record or whatever you like, but only those in the top ten can claim a fastest lap and claim the point. Perhaps it should be 3 points as well, make it worthwhile going for.

I think the fastest lap point is stupid. I also think raising the scoring system to 12 positions doesn’t do anything either. At this point just give every position a point l. I don’t agree that poor Yuki finished 11 like 10 times last season and someone else finishing 10th gets more point than he does. It’s defeating trying to root for a back marker team that barely scores. I truly don’t feel like it’s representative of who is doing better 11-20. Now that there is a cost cap and teams are financially tied to their finishing position I think that’s enough motivation to keep moving forward. Maybe not HAAS but everyone else

F1 rule needs to be changed! The purpose of this particular rule is to GIVE an extra point not to LOOSE a point! The point should be granted to the fastest driver in top 10, the only drivers that receive points. The points awarding rules should be CONSISTENT.

In 2008 massa crossed the finish line, winning the Brazilian grand prix, and for roughly 30 secs he was the WDC. On the last corner of the last lap Hamiltons friend let him pass, awarding him 1 pt to narrowly beat Massa by a point to the WDC. If Massa can get past that, I'm sure mclaren will too.

Get your facts straight. Ferrari's "junior team" went for the fastest lap even before VCARB, only Magnussen had his time deleted for track limit violation. If the Landalorian was so mad for that extra point he should have used his 30-second lead like a true champion and pitted for a set of softs rather than trundling home while brushing the barriers like s rookie. It won't be a decisive moment for the drivers' championship. If Norris loses it for a few points, it will be Mclaren's fault alone for choosing not to give priority to a driver, letting Piastri overtake Norris instead of protecting his team-mate.

I’m SO pissed that Daniel is being replaced. He is, BY FAR my favorite driver and it’s really going to suck not seeing his big beaming smile around the paddock. If it was RB’s goal to make Liam the most hated man in F1, they’ve achieved it by replacing the most universally loved and charismatic driver in the sport. Daniel deserves so much better than this unceremonious firing mid season. He deserves to go out on his own terms, or at the very least to finish out the season.

Fact is nobody wanted to save the 10th team when F1 cost loads of money. Red Bull was pleaded to take over the 10th team to prevent F1 got reduced to 9 teams. At that time all other teams and outsiders had the chance to buy an F1 team. None responded and only Red Bull bit the bullet. Those who are jealous now should look at themselves and wonder....why didn´t we buy/start a second team when F1 was not limited to 10 teams? Blame yourself...not Red Bull!!!

Big question for me is why Ricciardo managed to get the lap record when he was driving such a poor race. For me i have never understood 1pt for the fastest lap only for top 10 finish, it would be a good way for the smaller teams to get some extra points, which means extra prize money at the end of the season.

Solution for that problem could be, if u achieve fastest lap but u are out of top 10, then u wouldn't get but then next fastest driver/lap from top 10, smth like if identical times were set for pole the first one who crossed the line gets it
