Ive seen a few pundits say Spurs were poor in the first half. What game were they watching? Some of the finishing was poor, but the rest of it was scintillating. Absolutely brilliant football to watch. The second half was completely different but also fascinating in its own right. A game of two completely different halves, but a game to show how to win in polar opposite ways. This team can become something really special.

Just a word on the leadership group Ange put together. He chose the consummate gentleman (Sonny), the fearless warrior (Romero) and the cheeky chappy with the high football IQ (Maddison). That's a pretty potent mix.

Alasdair, thanks for your comments, which I always enjoy. Just a bit of history here, which you may find interesting - and also relevant to Spurs' current situation. When Ange joined Celtic, not was he only new there (and lost 3 of the first 6-7 games), the team also had an awful run of injuries prior to the first January transfer window - including a few-month long injury to their main striker Kyogo Furhashi. It always looked like they were barely getting a team on the park, and afterwards, Ange commented that they had been running 'on fumes'. However, when that was taking place, you'll not be surprised to hear that Ange was making no excuses, and was barely commenting on the injuries at all. In any case, during this period, they managed to get on a run of results and had pegged Rangers back to a 4 point lead by the end of the year. They then got in a few players in January, and got a few back from injury. They played and beat Rangers at home in early February, and never looked back. Rangers were in the rear-view mirror for the remainder of the 2 years Ange was there. I tell that story here because so many pundits are currently saying that Spurs don't have the squad to win the league. My view? While it might look like that, Ange's ability to reach into the squad (and under age squads) and elevate players is nothing short of astounding - and I think we're about to see a bit of that. Also, there will be squad additions - which, knowing Ange will be quite low profile (and may even disappoint some fans) - but they will massively strengthen the squad. I've commented elsewhere that one of the words that follows Ange's teams around is 'relentless'. Now that Spurs are top, despite Ange's calm words about process, steady improvement, etc, they're not going to let go of that easily. COYS!

Comments like this restores my faith in spurs fans. Hopefully, with the success of Vicario & Micky in particular, most fans will realise we're not going to sign the likes of Osimhen, Toney, Vlahovic, and that that's actually a good thing. I love you're thought process and I hope you're right! I think the league title this season may be a step or 2 too far. There are still plenty of positions we need better quality to truly compete, but we may not be as far off the pace as lots of people are saying. COYS!!

I had the pleasure of meeting the two Welsh wizards, Cliff Jones and Terry Medwin, at some memorabilia show in Canary Wharf maybe 10 years ago: what absolute legends of this great club and what down to earth, humble nice people they both are. I kind of spoilt their impression of me by saying I REALLY should hate the pair of them as they were part of the reasons I spent so much of my life following this bloody football club😅😅😅😅, I guess I [70 yo now and 60 years a fan] got away with my cheekiness coz they both laughed a lot 😅😅😅😅😅

I must admit that I had never heard of Ange Postecoglou until Spurs appointed him but what an amazing job he has done at in such a short space of time - the transformation in the play, attitude and atmosphere around the club is amazing, especially considering as our best player and talisman was sold at the end of the transfer window. I also think we are not top by luck because apart from the Liverpool VAR goal we have not benefited from any dodgy decisions, and it is also worth noting that of our 8 games 5 have been away from home.

Romero was indefensible last season. He was utterly crap and only cared about Argentina. I’m sure conte not giving a shit was a big part of this I’m glad he’s better this season but I’m not on his bandwagon yet. It’s 8 games, as opposed to about 50 absolutely crap games before that
@danbrooks1990
@danbrooks1990 11 ай бұрын
@@pauldurdin6163 He was not indefensible last season. He was clearly injured, and even tried to play through an injury for us very early in in the season. He was even working his way back to fitness during the World Cup, which was evident through his performances. Argentina realised an 80% fit Romero was better than all their other centre backs, but they still had to substitute him in the first couple of games (clearly highlighting he was injured, more so than his actual preformances, which were slightly shaky for Argentina). As for being club over country, Romero, like all players, just want to play if they're fit (and probably even when they're not). Fans like you, driving a shit media narrative, make me embarrassed to be a Spurs fan. The fact you're incapable of recognising when we have one of the best centre backs in the world is a disgrace. It's just unfortunate that, with millions of Spurs fans around the world, plenty of them are phenomenally ignorant and let the media dictate their feelings. Pathetic!!

I have been on the fence about Vicario, he seemed all for the show at first, letting in some soft goals, but have to say he has really impressed lately, superb reflexes and shot stopping. His passing distribution is decent too.. he's relaxed, looks like he has actually kicked a ball before - which is the big difference from Hugo who I really expected to spoon the ball everytime he had it at his feet... Richi is looking better on the left Kulu in the middle I think made him harder to predict, he had a great game.. he thinks of himself as a no.10 As for sarr.. he reminds me of a young pat vierra, just looks so comfortable and clearly is becoming more and more confident

On what you mention around the stadium naming rights, I think keeping the name is good for our global brand. For example, an ad before an NFL game would be $500k-$1m, so it’s free advertising, builds our global brand. I think spurs needs to capitalise on this partnership and break into the U.S., especially with the Inter Miami growth.

Hi Ali, I was really interested about your question to Ange about his coaching structure and the roles and responsibilties of his assistants. After hearing Ange’s response, I would be quite confident in saying that Ange has probably observed and learnt this from AFL football back home, where the coaching structure is almost identical in having defensive, midfield and forward coaches who work with their specific players within that line, but then meshing ball transition and team defence as a cohesive unit. The head coach’s role is to over see those lines and develop strategy. This method in AFL is probably more transferable to football than NFL as all players in their lines are on the field at once and must work as a cohesive unit with and without the ball. To add to this, in regards to how Ange is evidently developing the assistants under him and providing them with a greater sense of responsibility, again this is common in AFL. The majority of senior coach hirings in AFL tend to go to aspiring assistant coaches, that havent’t been senior coaches before, who bring with them fresh ideas and methods learnt from winning clubs. They also typically come from clubs who have recently tasted finals success. A senior coach who has been fired almost never gets a second chance elsewhere, different to the coaching merry go rounds we often see in the EPL. Ange does like his AFL growing up in Melbourne and I am certain he was part of an advisory panel for the coaching position at the Carlton FC around a decade ago, so I would absolutely love it if you could follow up your question from last week by asking him if he has taken any of his coaching methods/ assistant coach delegation from his observations of AFL football? Lastly, enjoy your time in Melbourne, in the off chance we cross paths in a city of 5 million I’ll be sure to shout you a beer or two!

If my mind serves me correctly Ange was part of the Carlton panel in appointing Michael Voss as Carlton Coach. Ange is also in a whats app group with other leading Coaches from other sporting codes where they discuss & brainstorm ideas & latest in Coaching methodologies, I know as a Hawks supporter Alastair Clarkson &!Sam Mitchell travel overseas each year during AFL off-season for study tours & both have visited Ange whilst he was at Yokohama (Japan) & Celtic (Scotland) to learn & exchange ideas that could be employed in both codes.

@@damiarmyworld1314I’ve got a feeling it was when we hired Bolton in 2015 which matches up with when he was Australia’s coach and spending more time in the country. I can defintely recall Clarko and Mitchell going on those tours now that you’ve mentioned it. Ange is a very clever man and I’m sure having these connections with other sporting codes has given him a point of difference that sets him apart from other coaches in Europe.

Hello Ali, thank you for another wonderful video on a Monday morning (Singapore time). Glad to hear that you are coming to my part of the world again and hope to be able to catch you in Singapore this time! You did not touch on this but this is pertaining to the Luton goal that was disallowed. Even if there wasn't the foul on Cuti, wasn't the Luton striker offside anyway?

Great video Ali. My view on our current team is so much more positive than the last 3 years. I'd love to be full of confidence and arrogance. However, we've had some very lucky matches in the few games this season. I'd like to say that if City or Liverpool got the same result as us at Sheffield, they'd be noted as "that's what champions do". I feel like we're the welterweights in the league, whereas the 2 favourites, are clearly heavyweights. They're juggernaughts. We need a "b" team that can compete in this league and currently we don't. I'm going to enjoy the ride this season, but i reckon it'll take at least another 2 transfer windows before we become serious contenders.

Alasdair, I’d be really interested to know what Ryan Mason thinks of life working with Postecoglou, given he was so adamant he was ready to become the manager. I’d love to know if he now feels he’s learning loads from big Ange and is happy it worked out this way. I wonder if you’d ever get a chance to ask him? Thanks -Andy

I have to admit I do get annoyed with pundits automatically ruling out Tottenham from a title challenge. I agree that Tottenham is the least likely out of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool to win the league due to squad depth but there is a plausible pathway for this to occur. The first XI is just as good or at least not significantly inferior as the other challengers but the bench strength isn’t there. Nil injuries to the first XI until January and then reinforcement in the next transfer window and there is a possibility. Maybe a low possibility but I think Tottenham should be in the contender category. Especially due to Ange history that the side actually improves as the season progress.

That's going to be Levy's next true test. He balked it with Harry Redknapp, he refused to back Poch in 2019. I guess Ange must be a good psychologist and work out which players that he wants he can convince Levy to buy.

Great to see us doing so well so soon in the Ange era. 👍🏻 Have to say I’m worried about squad depth. When Hoijberg, Skipp and Davies came on we were lucky to hold on to the 3 points. They just aren’t good enough. Suspensions and injuries will be our downfall. No decent cover for Bissouma, Maddison or CBs.

Its great to see the team taking the initiative, like you say, acting on instinct not instruction. Ange sets the 'commanders intent', the players (under Son's captaincy) implement the best way they see fit. Its working...so far. What i worry about is, do they have the aces up their sleeves for when things take turn for the worst ? E.g a direct free kick competency. I've been thinking this for ages, but we need someone like Maddison to develop this skill to get us out of a tight spot, and also become good enough to regularly strike fear into opposition when we get a free kick. Remember the days when Man Utd would get a foul on the edge of penalty area, and Beckham steps up?..we need the same.

Hi Alasdair only just had a chance to listen to your latest video. Wonderful yet again. If you really have time on your trip to Australia, try to get a couple of days up at Cairns. Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane are great cities, but you really need to witness the Great Barrier Reef off Cairns. Also the Atherton Tablelands behind Cairns about 30- 40 minutes drive. The drive Cairns to Port Douglas is one of the best in the world. I would even drive you in my SUV. But have a wonderful trip . Cheers, Dennis.

I haven’t been to an NFL game at our stadium, but would love to try it. My team are the Seattle Seahawks and seen them twice at their old King Dome and new Lumen Field stadium. I did go to Wembley when they beat Oakland Raiders at the time about 6 years ago. Tickets were £140. A pint of Budweiser £6.60. There were huge queues for all the food options. 150-200 people. It was a shambles. It is a shame ticket prices can be so high, but do need to give it a try at our stadium. At least we know what we get in our stadium even if the prices go up a bit further for NFL. It’s good you mention this and and it does form part of our revenue and they share our fine stadium after all.

Last season we were top of the league after 12 games also. We have to improve on it this season and we are in an ideal place to do so this season. It seems that we have learnt to be better prepared than before. It can only help us that we aren’t taken as serious contenders as we are expected to fail by our rivals. We have had a bit of luck along with our hard work but are still in the ideal place to take advantage of any slip ups and if we can keep it up till the January window we will be able to reinforce our squad for the second half of the season and also give all our doubters an unexpected surprise about our squads strength and resilience!

Amazing times, but we do need to keep some perspective and not get too carried away - although I intend enjoying being top of the table for the next 2 weeks. Of course it wouldn’t be one of your holidays without something significant happening - the Johan Lange appointment is an exciting one and it feels that most of the important pieces are now in place. Nice one Ali 😃👍 How many signings do you think we should make in the January window and where? I know a lot of the fan base will demand a lot but I rather Ange buys 2 top class players that works for Ange Ball ⚽️ that will probably be quite cheap going on his history. The players fitting the system rather then their status.
