Plenty of modern music tools have more than one so-called sequencer, and so we can easily use one sequencer to arbitrarily sequence another sequencer. Sequence sequencing!! www.makenoisemu...

I am getting very tempted to share your videos with friends who have no interest whatsoever in modular synthesis or even music in general. Not to convince them they should be interested in it, but because you more often than not seems to tap into universal ideals about life, purpose, meaning, passion, discovery, etc. Nice work, as always.

MAKEN0ISE So I was trying to better describe what I meant and the NYT serves up this interview with a Taoist scholar that does just that. Tell me if you don’t see many of your own explorations and discoveries included in this conversation that never once speaks of music, let alone sound design... Such as this line “We have only limitless transformation.” : How To Die (Without Really Trying) www.nytimes.com/2020/09/16/opinion/religion-taoism-death.html?smid=em-share

You're just making the fact that you can't get a René for love nor money all the harder. Thanks for that!

Absolutely amazing! Exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out since getting the Rene recently. I think the key is starting simple - your two-note sequences in the Rene make it easier to understand what’s happening and then build from there. I’ve been having fun using the 0-Ctrl to transpose the Rene with X and Y cv in Fun.add mode. Lots of power between these two sequencers!

Yeah I almost was thinking of each 2-note sequence as sort of guitar hammer-on type patterns, or the little trills and embellishments that a piano player like Oscar Peterson would toss into all the notes to make them sound like they're written in cursive :D

I wish it could swing like Peterson too...

By the way. Have you ever sequenced Rene 2 with Rene 1? I don´t want to give Rene 1 away and don´t have a Rene 2 jet, so I just wonder, if this is an interesting option.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
I haven't done it but you could do most or all of what's shown in this video using an original René instead of a 0-Ctrl. Could be fun!

It remind the beat sync on the old Juno. May be the next big thing like FM when sequencing go to audible speed.

5:25 how can these be different speeds? Is it because Tempi's settings are saved and loaded via the select bus? I don't really see changes in the blinking speed of René when once it's fast and once it's slow.
@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC4 жыл бұрын
Yes that's exactly right. TEMPI is following René. I started with 8 identical TEMPI States (didn't show the Mesh programming, because it would have added a lot of time to get the sequence going), and then during the video I edited them individually as I selected them using the 0-CTRL. It may be harder to see because of the wider angle I needed to use (and not quite as sharp a lens as I normally use) in order to get the whole system and the 0-CTRL all into the frame.

By the way, is there still documentation on how you patched the intro?

The René intro uses the three channels, coming in one at a time as their names are shown on-screen. X is a 16-step sequence with DPO and striking Optomix, Y is a slower 16-step sequence that hits the Play input on Morphagene, which is loaded with iirc a vocal sample at a small gene size with Vari-Speed being enveloped per note, and then C plays on the other channel of the DPO.

MAKEN0ISE thanks! It feels so alive! My René has been collecting dust because either sequences are too boring or chaotic, it‘s hard for me to find a middle ground. Will listen to the intro a few times and try to find out how you made it that melodic. I guess for me the key to liking Renés sound more is to insert a lot of pauses, but then you only get like 4-6 notes, which makes it repetetive again.
