@Brian Stafford there’s no cheap and tunable BMW i4 tho. There is the BMW S14 that’s in the E30 M3, but that costs as much as a Ferrari engine right now. I suspect this build is trying to replicate the DTM M3 which had a high rev i4, and the only engines that have that capability while being relatively cheap are Honda motors. If you wanna build a powerful E30, can swap an S54, but I suspect it won’t handle as good as fitting an i4 due to the increased overall weight and messed up weight distribution.

tbh if you slap inline 4 engine in e30 that has similar specs as original S14 in M3. yeah it looks like a M3. This K24 probably has more HP than M3 did.

Problem is E36 is a rear sump car, so you drop a K in and the oil pump sits on your steering rack. But there are a few E36s with K swaps already, but it's harder to do than in an E30

@@dubbleA100 for s52 swap in e30 people use oil pan with front sump from m50 that came in e34, so that why it wouldn't work in e36 because e36 have back sump..but they use e36 mounts in e30s so that part would work fine

I can definitely relate to opening the hood of an E30 with a really long screwdriver. Definitely tempted to K swap it, but it will be a while before I have enough mechanical experience to pull off an engine swap.

Well it’s more of functionbuild. It’s a track car. They rattle and they are built to easily work on hence zip ties. And the door sits like that because he doesn’t have the Correct door pod for the quarter pod/skirt he is running

The dash rattling and zip ties play a huge role in racing if you ask me. Anyhow to me, it's still uncommon to see a door sit like that. Anyways thanks for the answer and have a nice day :)

I had no idea this kit existed, kmiata/garagistic are the only kits that get mentioned right now, and garagistic isn't even finished. Late model rad might help with the coolant pipe running across the top (but the bottom looks like it would have to do the same), the expansion tank issue, and future rad upgrades to something like an S54 Z3M for people going FI. Z4 steering rack is manual with in-column electric assist, as a manual rack in such a light car it might feel better than a disconnected assisted rack. Hilarious how good it sounds with the stock exhaust, almost sounds like the M20 is still there. I think the "honda" exhaust note is the most feared downside of this swap for people considering it (obviously doesn't include purists). The K series is such a good powerplant for this car. Pretty much any other common swap adds weight to the front end which just makes the balance worse. It's so easy to pull weight out of the rear of an e30, and this swap really would be able to take advantage of that.

Nice. I ended up putting in a rebuilt 1996 sr20det with higher compression, with a mini supercharger and bigger turbo. Gets a nice 450rwkw/600hp at rear wheels. Runs the qtr in under 9. Still looks like my grandparents car, but tyres, hidden exhausts, tint and welding unseen. Unfortunately, it was stolen and found burnt out. So, now I am considering getting a fkn horse

That car probably feels great to drive. I think the big draw for the 318iS, which was a inline 4, was the light front end..... And fuel economy 🙄. This seems like it would be similar to the E30 M3. The S14 in the M3 was also a NA 4 with over 200hp. BMW people don't get mad at me for the comparison... just saying a lighter front with good suspension. Not M3 suspension obviously...

The M42 motor was probably the best factory match for the car. I'll get flamed for this but the M20s hate revving and the M10s sucked ass (cam oil starvation, no power). And yes, I managed 42 mpg, trying. Super reliable car, too.

I was about to comment on how engines that crave high RPM and have no torque seem weird in a BMW, then remembered that the M20 at least, even if it's an I6, needs RPM and doesn't have oodles of torque either. I can't speak about the S14 and if it needs high RPM or not, only driven the I6 version of the E30, it was weird for someone used to low RPM cars with torque from the start.

I'm sure that that must be a 325i and not a 325iS, iirc the 325iS was only available in South Africa as a substitute for the M3 we didn't get, and was actually stroked by BMW South Africa to 2.7 litre. But I could be wrong, I don't know of any other countries having a 325iS, if it is an American 325iS its probably just a 2.5 though with extra trim... Idk. Still super cool though.
