Touhou 16: Hidden Star in Four Seasons - Stage 3

Here in this stage you’ll need to watch yourself. Now you’ll begin running into more of the bulky fairies that fire out complex shots but also the squads of fairies with their own complex patterns that’ll add up if left alone. Best as you can all enemies need to be taken out as soon as you can here.
Lily isn’t much of a threat here, all you need to do is make sure you position yourself so you take on her waves of attacks one at a time rather than both at once.
Aunn’s a tricky one, but not too bad once you get used to the way she attacks. She’s the kind of boss that wields attacks that’ll destroy you if you focus on staying directly under her, however if you dodge in just the right way the attacks become much easier.

Scoring factoid of the week! Aunn's curvy laser spell on Easy scoring gives some of the most PiV out of any Touhou attack PERIOD. Imagine nearly half of the PiV cap being supplemented by this one spell alone, and you've got your answer. The trick is the Winter release lasting a long time and positioning it just right.

3:49 Actually, at least on Normal, but yellow bullets will never reach you as long as you're hugging the very bottom of the screen, and when they turn red, they gain momentum slowly from a still position. That means you can ignore yellow bullets altogether and focus on dodging ones that turned red.

One small thing I'll note is that Lily White actually has an extra spellcard attack if you're playing on hard difficulty or higher. It's nothing too unique, though... I think.

Ohhh, so this how you're supposed to beat doggo's last spellcard... thanks for the knowledge Mega. Now I can pass stage 3 without dying or using a single bomb. Stage 4 is another story though.

I have to admit, I tried playing the demo in Normal mode since Easy was a bit too easy, but Aunn's overcrowding spellcards scared the deathbombs out of me xD I did 1CC Easy the full game, but tbh it's one of the first time I was left unsatisfied having done that

In practice mode, you shall go. First time I played Touhou, it was EoSD and I used all my continues to beat normal mode. After I realised using a continue means you were already defeated, I went full workout on practice mode. Sakuya educated me on the basics and hitboxes (in the cruelest way possible) and now, I manage to 1CC hard mode... One last advice: You have to accept the fact that you WILL die, A LOT. Just don't despair...

Ah this stage, I hate the faeries right before Lily because I just KNOW I'll get hit by a tilted bullet so I usually just bomb right before she apppears so I don't need to deal with bullshit. Also, that part at 1:42 with the 4 faeries is a big Spring release spot, just wait for them to fire and release so the release circle insta-kills them. As for Aunn herself, all her non-spells are pretty good spots for Winter release (right on top of her, as always), but the 2nd card is also great to full release. I do dislike her last card though, usually just bomb it. Next week we're in for Bullet Golem bullshit :D PS: Please don't hate me but I always mis-read Aunn's theme as "A pair of divine breasts" before correcting myself

At least Bullet Golem can be mislead and it's the only hard spell of the boss, Imho. Stage 4 itself is a pain for me: I just can't dodge all that stuff without being overwhelmed.

Am I the only one who thinks stage 5 is acutually EASIER than stage 4? Bosses excluded. The only hard part in stage 5 is the midboss. Once you figure out how to handle the suicide bomb things it is acutually very easy....stage 4 though....those fairies just don't shut up! Aunn's last spell card is fun if you have summer for sub season. Use it twice in her face and she drops to like 20% HP. :P

@@TheValentineEnemy Eh, it depends. I like the laser part and the first and last pattern before the bosses are just aimed stuff (do move too fast and it becomes impassable though). The colored faeries in stage 4 follow the same process, throwing aimed balls at you except for the green ones

Sorry Omega, but that's nowhere near the best strategy for handling Komainu''s last spell. The better strategy is to try and kill her clone as fast as possible because when it dies, every bullet within a massive radius of the clone gets deleted. Then there are way fewer bullets to deal with as you move your focus over to the real one. After she summons her clone again, you can just whale on the real dog until the fight's over, since the bullets (probably) won't reach you until the spell's over. P.S. The clone doesn't even explode into a wave of bullets! That only happens if you leave it alone.

While technically true, it also makes the fight much slower cause then I have to work through the bullets _anyways_ to get under the real Aunn. Since all her large bullets are aimed at you and the smaller bullets are static, so long as you zip to the opposite side right before those bullets set up you can easily beat the spell in the same way every single time by doing that. It also allows me to end the spell in just one and a half loops so I don't have to deal with it for long as well. If you're playing as someone with Spring or Summer shots however they'd have the best time getting the best of both worlds and all. Being able to both easily blast the clone and still damage the real one from safety.
