Touhou 2 - The Story of Eastern Wonderland - Perfect Extra Stage

A run of SoEW's extra stage without dying or bombing.
Hardest stage in the series? Meh.
Whenever you get over the whole "hitboxes bigger than the bullets" thing it's not that bad.
The patterns are all very simple and basic, just be beware of clipdeath.
The green blob spam is luckshit. If they spawn at inconvenient places, you are likely screwed. The only one who has a fair bit of consistency on this part is ReimuC at max power.
If you are having a lot of problems with EES's first attack, you can go above it to skip it. I didn't do this as I find it a bit cheap. :V

Rika: The only touhou character that was the first stage AND the extra stage boss IN THE SAME GAME. Edit: man y'all misreading this real badly. Okina wasn't first stage in her game. Like yes others have been bosses in multiple games or consecutive like Yuka in stage 5/6 but come on people. Read.

There’s something so warmly nostalgic yet incredible uncanny and weird about the PC98 Touhou. Even if some of these characters or settings appear in the windows games, it feels surreal looking back at what they once were.

The only reason I have a problem 1cc'ing this game isn't because of the larger hitbox/bullet ratio, it's because there's no focusing. I'm used to the Windows/newer PC-98 games to the point where I find myself desperately holding shift, hoping that I slow down.

i think it´s wierd that people can get this special screen when they clear Extra on PC98, but in the Windows games, they don´t appear T_T also beat the Stage in the Remake version... i don´t know why but the remake actually is easier than the normal game.

why did ZUN stop making unique visual assets and gimmicks for EXTRA stages after the PC-98 was dead i've heard Touhou 6 had a more "spicy" EXTRA in one of it's versions, i wonder if due to it being rushed we lost out on a more complex visually and gimmick-wise EXTRA, as it seems the one that we got in 6 was still in active development when it was "finalized". i do wonder why 8 still lazily reused Stage 4 assets, for example.

Game's mid at best. Beat it on easy mode first try and then shelved it for good. Great job on taking the time to beat its EXTRA STAGE! 0_o

Admittedly, I do not like the first three games at all, their boss fights are cool, the characters are nice, the music, despite the limitations, holds up really well but somehow these games manage to outclass one another in terms of how stupid they can be, HRtP is cancer, anything post SinGyoku is just insane, Makai route is significantly more difficult but both routes really have you trying to hit the boss with the Yin Yang orb, which actively works against you throughout your gameplay, while the boss just shoots the most bizarre patterns ever made, and in the end you don't even get rewarded for it, the game has unlimited continues yes, but it just feels unrewarding, especially for those that play in higher difficulties (I didn't), all what you get for beating the game is some of the shittiest endings in the series, and it's just baffling. SoEW is the first shmup in the series, and yeah it's bad, you've to mash repeatedly to shoot, even the stage backgrounds work against you in this stage, and the janky hitbox is the cherry on top. PoDD, like the other VS mode games in the series, is a broken mess, but what truly makes it a horrible experience to play through is Yumemi, so apparently not only are her patterns complete and utter bullshit (her Gauge level-whatever attack is braindead) but she also cheats the rules of the game as in she simply can't get hit even if her hitbox visibly gets caught by a bullet until you die once, she is by far the most busted final boss in the series and no one, not even Junko comes close. Sorry for going on a rant about these near 30 year old games but I don't expect anyone in this community to ever read these reviews because no one plays these games other than you, have a nice day.

@@cheshirechastain1870 I didn't have many issues with any of the extra stages you said, especially not Raiko, but this one I find really difficult. No shifting. No death bombing. Weird hitboxes. Hard to predict attacks. all things about this extra stage that make it cancer. I have never raged more at a game than this stage has made me. In my opinion, the hardest extra stages were Koishi, Hecatia, and Rika lol.
