You don't see environmental hazards in vertical shmups much, which is why when I got to the part at 2:30 I was like "Wait, what the hell did I die from? Oh, those giant rocks are hazards"

@@winterdragon2004 I really like environmental interaction. It's one of the reasons I liked ZeroRanger so much: it has some sections with actual environments AND an expanded playfield where moving far enough left/right scrolls. That's stuff I really liked from older horizontal shmups like Thunder Force 4 and it always baffles me why most vertical shmups refuse to put that in the game at all (when it's my favorite thing REEEE).

@@EchidnaKida well, I think that the issue is that since most of these games are top down, there aren't any real good ways to integrated the environment as an obstacle, and any that do run the risk of blending into the background. By the way, have you seen or played Phantasmagoria Trues? Cause that has my favorite instance of Environmental Hazards that I've seen so far.

What I adore about fdf is that it isn't the same story or necessarily the same game. Things are much more different and there's an underlying threat to it all that's causing these incidents to happen again. Some bosses have been swapped out for others, and one of them can be playable. Just like Patchouli was playable in the last game, the fact that Youmu is playable and has a reason for being playable is great. It's pretty much what a remake of a game should be like, except this goes (in my eyes) above just being a remake. From the incredible art, to the bullet types being unique for a very good reason, and just the sound design in general. This is without a doubt one of the greatest things to come out of the fanbase

i know im late, but reimu's hit box is hella small. that phase can be done by just streaming, but if you move "a little to the left/right". when i mean a little i mean like 3-5 pixels small. all the bullets aimed at you won't hit.
