Note that the original video is not from me.The original video is from ペペーチョ. I only subbed the video in english so us non-japanese speakers and those who can't read Japanese can understand and enjoy the video. However this wasn't possible without the help of a friend of mine, Oborochi, who transcribed and translated the text into English so most of the credit goes to them. I only subbed the video and checked the grammars.
Well now that is out of the way, I hope you enjoy the video. I hope you forgive me if you saw a typo. I was mentally tired by the time I finished subbing and I didn't have time to check it immediately. However it was quite an experience.

I don't remember much of the pc-98 canon, but I think that was back when the danmaku rules weren't set in stone yet, making the fights overall a lot more serious. Pandemonium got destroyed in one of the games even.

Just because there were no spell card rules doesn't automatically mean everyone was trying to kill others. Fencing existed as a sport before safety measures for example. That said, murder was possible unlike now, and reimu does wonder if she's killed a few characters post fights... Well she's killed people post spell card rules too.

What a nice animation! Really liked the aesthetics, and the ending was also pretty fun/cute, they even justified the visual transition for Reimu and Marisa. It's characterization and portrayal of the universe was so interesting (also with that '80/'90 anime vibe) that I think it would be awesome to eventually see it as an fully drawn animation, despite it already being pretty good as it is. I love that franchise, and interesting fanworks like that one make me love it even more. Just added that animation to my Touhou Anime collection lol ! Anyway, thanks for all the work of finding and translating it, I really appreciated it!

I believe the pc98 era was the first Reimu in Touhou Series. The windowns touhou can be generations after the 5th touhou game and before the first windowns game. I prefer when they explore this idea And this animation ignores all 4 games after Highly responsive to prayers. What I known until now Windowns reimu never met Alice before embodiment of scarlet devil (first windowns game). It can show Windowns Reimu is a priestess generations after Pc98 reimu

That's a pretty interesting point of view, that could also make sense! I think this animation focused more at giving it's own spin in the events. Despite itnot following exactly all the games, I enjoyed it quite well. I'm not sure, but I think they already knew each other - the thing is just that Reimu couldn't remember her immediately (maybe some years had passed between the events of MS and PCB). But yeah, the relation between PC-98 and Windows era can get pretty confusing lol !

I believe the events between pc98 era could have passed many years, and between the 5th and 6th game have passed tens of years before the events of scarlet devil And Reimu is one of the 3 or 4 only human characters in this game series. She couldn't have lived tens of years maintaining a toddler appearance

The animation, hair and clothing designs, sound effects, and even music are all SO early 90s anime. They hit this spot that's nostalgic, especially if this was the kind of anime you grew up watching. The slightly off fan-translations make it even better lol. Yet at the same time, it's flash animation with amateur voice actors obviously recording in their rooms, which makes it nostalgic in an early internet sense. And as a Touhou fan work, it is just amazing. It really feels like an official Touhou anime that was made in the 90s. The characters are all written as if they're from that era (which they are), and they have enough depth to really shine, while also staying true to their game counterparts. Mima is at her best here for sure, and Marisa's relationship with Reimu fits wonderfully. This should be viewed by the community as canon, same with Osana Reimu. With that said, it felt oddly sad when they switched to their modern styles, as if they were saying goodbye to the old pc-98 era and all the characters. Still, 10/10

This was a pleasant watch! Do wish the story closely followed the actual game instead of just a story about Reimu, Marisa, and Mima with SinGyoku mixed in for good measure, but I think it still works as a nice little story. It's cute as a sort-of origin for the three, and I enjoy how it ties into how and why their clothes ended up changing, that was a nice touch despite the fanservice thrown in. It gives off a 90s anime style too which is fun, and the relationships of Reimu and Marisa, and Marisa and Mima are cute. A fun time, thanks for the sub :0

So, what do we know about HRtP now (or all the PC-98 era, because it looks being finished at the end of this animation, skipping everything beginning at TH1 stage 11 till end of TH5): a) Everyday life of Reimu: crawl into the donation box in a desperate search for even a single coin. (1:41) b) Marisa in one sentence: "I also want to break something!" (8:19) c) Marisa loves to bully Reimu about her hair color (did she forgot her hair dying experiments in SoEW?) d) Mima loves to bully Reimu that she is a tsurupettan (even if actually she's not). e) That's how the typical incident in Gensokyo begins: (One girl): "My chest is bigger than yours!" (Another girl): "No, mine is bigger!" (Massive danmaku hell follows.) f) Reimu is Tsundereimu! (25:24) g) "Girls are fighting. Please wait until their clothes being torn at the specific places for the sake of fan service." h) There is one thing that never ever changes in Gensokyo: the emptiness of Reimu's donation box. i) Shorts as an element of clothes has been in Gensokyo long before Aunn has shown herself. (34:21) j) Now I know why Reimu's mother always wear something on her head or face (not just in Osana Reimu, but here too: she wears a sun flare at 36:50): when people call you Reima, it's not quite good idea to see their faces (they might confuse you with either your daughter, or your future killer). Well, actually it's quite a good thing. It looks pretty good compared to Osana Reimu, Memories of Phantasm, A Summer Day's Dream, and The Sealed Esoteric History, even if latter three are technically much more improved.
