Yes! Thank you for saying it so perfectly!~ I've always thought that RenMerry's abilities and the way they intersect are very fascinating and "romantic." Indeed, this can be in any sense of the word. Romance refers to the feeling associated with anything exciting, mysterious, and idealistic -- as in the song title "UFO Romance in the Night Sky" -- an otherworldly fantasy. That line _was_ also intended to sound shippy, of course. Their adventures being so "romantic" in one way makes me want to blur the border of the other definition. You're right on them all, a-and in fact you found more meaning than I even intended. ;v; 0:55 I have actually never played Touhoumon... though I am aware that Renko & Maribel are the protagonists, so that is a wonderful coincidence, especially because it involves Yuyuko, the implied "ghost" behind the scenes of this "ghostly field." Thanks a lot for pointing that out! 1:23 BRILLIANT.... Human+youkai teams = fact+fiction...! I was honestly only thinking about how Renko represents objectivity/reality while Maribel represents subjectivity/fantasy, and they are a team. But the IN connection is an excellent point that I hereby approve. Incidentally, I always say I'd love to see the girls cross the border into the main series of Touhou and get a chance to star in a danmaku game, and an IN-like team would totally be the best way to do that. Extra references: 1:44 "Like some spell was cast, each moment seems to last an hour full..." Most of this is supposed to center around PCB, but as you pointed out there are plenty of IN nods too. The concept of a skewed perspective of time reflects the plot of the unending night. 1:58 "When stakes are grave..." They are in a graveyard. Probably, all the stakes that they see are graves. This isn't a reference, just a pun. Please appreciate it. 2:23 "Led along this path to the place that I love by the scent of the flower I hate..." The graveyard, as described in the GFC story, is full of lycoris / higanbana (the flower of death that blooms in abundance in PoFV). Merry complains that she's always hated these creepy flowers, yet she somehow has a feeling that the entrance to the supernatural hotspot is the place where these flowers grow the thickest. Renko (who has the ability to sense location as well as time, like a compass) immediately believes her. By following the opposite of what appeals to them to get where they want to go, they are using "a compass pointing against common sense." This is a phrase often used to describe Gensokyo, truly a world which requires the opposite of common sense to understand. Yukari has a spell card that translates to something like "The Other Side of Uncommon Sense," and Sanae has a quote that says "You can't let yourself be trapped by common sense in Gensokyo!" 2:49 "Autumn leaves are red, and winter is white... They mingle pink and bloom in season." GFC takes place in autumn, but the girls catch a glimpse of cherry blossoms through the Netherworld gap as if it is spring. PCB takes place in spring in the Netherworld, while the theft of cherry blossoms leaves the rest of Gensokyo looking like winter. Using a sort of unusual logic, or uncommon sense (which involves mixing and "blurring the boundary" of the relevant colors red & white), the girls come with an "explanation" for both of these out-of-season occurrences.

Hi, Lyrica. Unlike my previous comments I've written on your videos, I'm not here to comment on how good the song is. (well, I sort of am, haha) Rather, I wanted to talk about how you've improved my life. So it all started 9 months ago, when I was reading the comments on A Tiny, Tiny, Clever Commander. Someone was quoting you, and I decided to look up this "Lyrica Live". And, that might've been the best desicion I've ever made in my life. I noticed 2 hours ago, you had released a cover of Eastern Youkai Beauty. (which is actually why I'm able to track how long I've been watching your content!) I fell in love with the songs, and I was always curious to what these songs with the two girls with a hat were. I didn't know the characters, I was quite new to the fandom at the time. Wasn't really a fan of the songs, until I managized to memorize their names. "Merry" and "Renko". I decided to listen to one of one the Merry and Renko songs, specifically Schrodinger's Bakeneko. And so, my Renko obsession began. I've memorized the lyrics from that song, and now Renko is my favourite character in all of Touhou. If it wasn't for that person on the comments of A Tiny, Tiny Clever Commander, if it wasn't for you.... I would've never have found Renko, and probably would've left the Touhou fandom, only a month or so into it. Touhou has made me feel alot happier than I used to be, and your content has made me stay in the fandom. Thank you, Lyrica.

I did not run out of ideas! The phrase "black as ink" is referenced in exactly two songs, the first being Yuyuko's. The full title of Yuyuko's theme is "Bloom Nobly, Ink-Black Cherry Blossoms." It is based on a legend in which a poet wrote a tribute to his recently-deceased friend, asking the flowers at his deathbed to bloom ink-black as a sign of mourning. The next day, they miraculously did. Yuyuko's own story has some similar themes. Now here, Renko and Maribel are getting a peek into the Netherworld, Yuyuko's realm, as cherry blossoms bloom out of season in a haunted cemetery. The use of these words is an intentional callback, and demonstrates the Sealing Club's familiarity with the legends they dream about.
