Another great song, with some excellent line deliveries. "Time to become an absolute loser!" would have to be my favorite. On the other hand, Shion's lyrics are quite interesting... Her philosophy on life as described in this song does indeed seem to have a dismal tone. Shion also seems to question Jo'on at first, but as the song progresses, it really does feel like Shion is ready to accept what Jo'on wants to do, even singing along with her at the end. It's interesting how one's acceptance of their fate can influence their worldviews.

And then "Wild and Horned Hermit" chapter 45 was released and we got the closest thing to a canon pairing we'll probably ever get. I mean, can _anyone_ deny that the tenshion was _through the roof_ in that chapter? Me, I just plain like the idea of Shion getting lucky for once in her life... I mean, _I_ couldn't put up with Tenshi for even a day, as insufferably obnoxious as she is I'd consider that a curse, but Shion practically worships the ground that Tenshi walks upon, so I'd say she's fine with Eldest Daughter... and judging by the end of that chapter, she seems to bring out a tender side of Tenshi, one that we don't get to see very often. Good for you, Shion. ^^

Ah, oh my goodness. This is just - wow. I love how contrasting Jo'on and Shion's voices are. I think you both captured your respective characters wonderfully. And the concept of their relationship shines really well through their lyrics. Shion not agreeing with Jo'on in the slightest but still having to be with her and accept her role as the poverty goddess. There's so much to pick apart here. Honestly, I absolutely love their dinamic together, how they balance each other despiste both having essentially the same power (they make you lose cash). ZUN has always been great at creating really interesting characters. Not only that, but they are two of the few characters in Touhou that actually develop as people during the game, with Jo'on learning money isn't everything and Shion finding someone that balances her natural misfortune (Tenshi, because, being a celestial, she has natural good fortune), which is something that makes me appreciate them even more.

I think these two are a great allegorical duo representing the evils of capitalism: Jo'on represents the elite: She's undeservedly well-liked (until one gets to know her or starts paying attention to how big of a rotter she really is) and she burns the wealth of the society around her, creating financial inequality while she, who profits the most from people's wealth burning on her pyre, never suffers any actual or lasting consequences for her actions and the suffering she spreads. Shion, in the meantime, represents the lower class: She's actually the biggest victim of Jo'on's parasitic lifestyle and bullying. She's the desperate one who's left in the ashes after her sister has burned all of value, left with little more to do than to latch on to Jo'on and hope that her next pyre will see some wealth trickle down into Shion's beggar's bowl. She's even got that resentment that those on the bottom sometimes develop for everyone but their actual oppressor.
