Touhou is a STRANGE series with so many characters/girls/youkai whatever. We may be divided on what TOUHOU music we love, but one thing unites us all together; stereotypes!~
Whether you are a fan of Cirno, Sakuya, Remilia Scarlet or Kosuzu, people assume that you have a certain trait/behavior just from the way you are. I know for certain Reimu fans will love this video.
Thanks to stealing the video idea from Soundsmith's TF2 Sterotypes, I decided to tell stereotpes for what your favorite Touhou girls are. From Reimu to Yukari, I got it all! (EoSD and PCB only lmao).

1:22 okay so fun little fact: I introduced one of my friends to the Touhou series directly through they games as they were mostly interested in their difficulty and sound tracks but not so much the lore and general community, so they haven't really been exposed it that much. Yet despite them not knowing any of the memes, when asked about their favorite character they always say Cirno. Which seems paradoxical to me.

She's got a fairly nice design that's pleasant to the eyes, something that stands out visually. She's also funny and have an interesting personality when confronted to other characters, so I'm not surprised. It's probably why she became a meme in the first place, despite other similar chars existing afterwards, none of them beat Cirno.

It's always RIGHT below the surface, but all of the official works like the games, manga, and music albums are still too hard to find/access, which keeps it from ever truly breaking through. Ironically the memes used to be the most "accessible" way into Touhou for years, but Lost Word might change that -- there's already tons of new people out there saying Lost Word was their first exposure to Touhou anything

I mean, mainline Touhou is mostly known for being this crazy hard "anime game series that doesn't actually have an anime attached to it". With a reputation like that, a huge chunk of the potential audience is bound to be memesters jumpting straight into lunatic and then they either grind out the game until they beat it or they are fine with declaring themselves bad at bullethells and instead going into the fanon-meme machine.

I think it’s mostly because it is mainstream, but more in Japan rather than the West, which is pretty typical of most anime and anime games. Not to mention the first few games you *have* to torrent to play them without paying a huge price tag.

I really like Patchouli's design. It is very pleasant and "soft" to eyes. And asthma, man. Nowadays it's just a bit of annoyance, but as a kid it was pain. Earned myself a trip to hospital just by existing near marine air. So now imagine a giant lilbrary, that gathers dust. ...oh yeah also I guess since her robe/dress is loose (ZUN did confirm the "stripes" are actually folds in her dress) people draw her all the way from pettanko to massive curves. Which of course leads to all the aforementioned doujins and art.

Okay, about the Youmu part, yes as a novice Touhou fan she's my first favourite character, yes it was in 2019 but here's the catch. Back at 2019 while I was going through my Touhou initiation, listening to the same three starter songs on repeat, (Flowering Night, U. N. Owen was her? And Bad Apple!) at the same time my mom and I were diligently watching a localised dub of Samurai X every weekday evening and from that I had an affinity for katanas and sword fighting, and when I watched the Bad Apple! PV and saw the girl wielding a Katana which is revealed to be Youmu, I immediately went: "Oh hey, she uses a Katana, I like her more!". And now, three years later, after getting to know Aya, Reisen, Mokou, Renko and Junko, Youmu is still my favourite as if there's a point of contention I run off as a Youmu fan, it's that she's the most adorable of all of Touhou Project's cast.

As a newer Yukari fan (only been into Touhou for like, 1-2 years, and shes only joined my favorites list within the last year), while not part of those eras, I do find the history of the Touhou fandom interesting, due to it's length and the prevalence of fan-made things Maybe in 10 year's I'll become one of the wise Yukari fans from the late 2010's Also does Rin Satsuki get fit into the forgotten Because if so yeah thats me, for the most part (especially for the fact I just like obscure/background characters in any media) It would be cool if you could my other favorites (Maribel, Renko, Sumireko, and Yumemi) into things because that would be cool I think

The Remilia one described me perfectly! She's my favorite character, followed by Flandre and Sakuya. I initially thought these characters were overrated and didn't care much for them, but after going full circle, I realized how much I love them. In particular, I love Remilia because she tries to act like an elegant and refined vampire though she actually has the mentality of an 8 yеar оld (like when she pretended to be a monster in Aya's story in SWR, that part was just too cute for me). As for Flandre, how can someone like Remilia, but not her sister? Well, Flandre is so cute, yet so mysterious, and maybe a little crazy. I always wonder where did she get her power of destruction (in fact, where do the 2hus even get their powers from? Are they born with them or are they awakened after some point? I know for a fact that Reimu's ability to float was awakened at some point before EoSD, since she didn't have that ability in the PC-98 canon and had to rely on Genji, so it makes me think all of the girls have to wait until their abilities get awakened. And now that I'm mentioning it, I wonder how did Flandre react when she found out about her terrifying new ability? Now this is a great plot for a fanfiction, I'm probably going to write one later). Well, putting that aside, as for Sakuya, she's just so intriguing to me. Why is a human serving a vampire in a mansion full of demons and youkai? I like the theorized backstory that Akyuu gave to her, where she was originally a vampire hunter (explaining the reason she uses silver knifes even though vampires are weak to silver) who failed to defeat Remilia, the latter manipulating Sakuya's fate in such a way that she ended up becoming her servant. Yeah, I'd also like to write a fanfiction on the backstory of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and its inhabitants. I'd also like to mention my entire top 10 of Touhou characters: 4. Satori Komeiji (she's a quite intriguing character, she is hаted and feаred by other youkai, but is loved by animals who can't be understood by others because of her mind-reading powers, -and I basically like any character that bears a resemblance to Remilia and Flandre- ) 5. Utsuho Reiuji "Okuu" (she's a cute, dumb bird with such an amazing and terrifying power over nuclear fusion, who could not love her?) 6. Koishi Komeiji (she had to close her third eye due to being hаted and feаred, and she couldn't take it anymore. Such a sad backstory, yet she's now the cute and goofy character we know, and I also like her relationship with Kokoro) 7. Keiki Haniyasushin (I really love her theme and her design, she's a sculpting goddess and as someone who likes art, she has to be a favorite of mine) 8. Nue Houjuu (she's a mischievous but mysterious character, she basically made a ton of UFOs without even knowing what an alien is! Also she has the coolest wings I've ever seen) ⑨. Cirno (I had to put the funny baka fairy on this spot, I like her because she's cute and dumb but has demonstrated to be one of the STRONGEST of her kind! Especially when she managed to beat Okina alone!) 10. Suwako Moriya (I love her laid-back personality and the fact she cares little about faith despite being a goddess and having to rely on it to continue existing. And she's just way too cute :3) Honorable mentions: Shinmyoumaru, Rumia, Tewi, Kaguya, Eirin, Patchouli, Reimu, Eiki, Yuuka and Momoyo. -I really didn't need to write such a long comment about my favorite characters, but here I am.-

Cool video! Before watching, I thought that the video was gonna be about outsider perspectives on Touhou, and those stereotypes. Wonder if that could be a video in the future. Also, someone who I introduced to Touhou had Sakuya as a favorite and he mostly checked off the boxes for what you've said, except at the time, he didn't play Touhou, and after sending me some... Gross. fan art of her, I soon unfriended and blocked him, so I never learned if he actually did.

As a Sakuya enjoyer, I do inbfact think she's the coolest. Rampaging Sakuya was my introduction to Touhou. That's being said, I've loved the series for a while, and I still think Sakuya is the best (imo). You also got the Remi fans right. My best friend is a Remi enjoyer and he is the coolest to hangout with.
