Yea, my house is all retro and vintage but it is a hodge podge of styles. It would be nice to have it all one style or decade but I don't think that is how people lived when I was growing up. There was a little of this and a little of that. However, everything I have is old.

Treasure Trash Cash"...Amazing tip for Scandinavian gold! Must check out some "sommer hus" (summer houses) in the Aarhus area in Denmark, that's where all the old furniture goes and still lives. EFC college in Scanderborg; One of many finds: B&O 70's hifi stereo and Bauhaus designer kitchen/ WC/ living room furnishings etc. . Here's my helpful hint: visit the local Recycle centre on the weekends they will even save things for cool Americans (case of Tuborge Beer helps) but definitely check local times for recycle/trash days and go early in the season get a rental van and do some "Sanford and Son" trash pile collecting. Be friendly and respectful, they often give you more objects to take away saving them a trip to the community recycle centre. Was such a blast, as students at European Film College. We built film sets from our finds, after we wrapped lsted the entire set on EBay or Blu Avisen website to fund post-productions (buy beer). Awesome tradition would make a great vacation idea. " PM if interested.

1:06 There are TWO smaller versions of this couch sitting upside down and rotting on the porch of an abandoned house in Georgia. The young couple who film their abandoned explore videos commented that they appeared to be a strange "70's design, or something". I wanted to hop on a plane Right Then to go rescue them!! There are so many pieces just rotting in abandoned buildings all over the world. So, when did the late 1960s and early 1970s become mid-century? I mean, mid century is iconic for the atomic inspired designs of lamps and chairs and kitchen tables made of steel and formica with those amazing black atomic patterns, but that house screamed 60s to me, which was a different era entirely. I lived through those eras, so I guess I have a certain frame of reference that a younger person may not have, so I'm not trying to be a drag, it just doesn't have the same eclectic feel (with the exception of that gorgeous sofa!). BTW, your bedroom chair has a rip in the front. Is it not normal to fix that stuff? Does it devalue the furniture if you make repairs?
@leenow31475 жыл бұрын
I so laughed when I saw this. I do like it. But I grew up with this kind of furniture. And yes, in Portland Or. I Now call it motel furniture. The 60s was when plastics really began to take off as a household item. If you notice, despite the mod or atomic futuristic shapes of things back then, the vast majority of items were still made from metal, glass, wood, and other natural materials. Plastic was there, but not nearly as ubiquitous as it is today. Gosh, I miss those days and the 70s. Food products still largely came in glass containers instead of clear plastic. Cardboard instead of... plastic. And paper instead of... plastic. I think it wasn't until the 90s that most everything had essentially been replaced by plastic in some form or another. Even furniture that was once mostly made of wood was replaced by mdf board. That isn't to say that fiber board was not around, it sure was but not as much as mdf is now. For the simple reason is it wasn't nearly strong enough to hold up for long. Usually only very very very cheap items were made of fiberboard. Some could say that by switching to plastic we are saving the trees and other things. But considering the amount of very slow degrading plastic that has amassed in less than fifty years (consider the now two Texas size floating islands of plastic in the oceans), I wonder if it really was nothing more than a mistake.

Seems more substantially constructed than one of Bucky Fuller's Dymaxions. As DJMinor5000 has noted, I'm wondering if maintenance is an issue. I guess roof leakage can't be 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 frequent, a problem as it would be more than unwise to house such expensive items there. I know it's probably just the name of the series but I didn't start hearing the term "rad" until the 1980's. Although we didn't have any mod furniture, I don't mind seeing everyday stuff from my childhood becoming collectable. In their way, they're preserving our history at that's wonderfully nostalgic for anyone who lived it.

Lived through the 60s, no better no worse than any preceding decades or later. Time is nothing more than a perception of memories that is often glorified as more of it passes. The here and now IS the most important time we have, the past is nothing but a bucket of ashes and the future may never come. Just the plain truth.
@timward3116 Жыл бұрын
Great house! That period really was a Renaissance for design! I wish we had that kind of creativity more easily accessible to normal low-to-medium wage people nowadays. Cookie-cutter neighborhoods designed to look like massive public housing developments, HOAs that have strict rules against doing anything that looks too nice, and bland, bland, bland seem to be the rule in most places. Who would have ever dreamed that, in this country, conformity to medocrity would become law?

See, the thing is that this is a one-of-a-kind house design, a true "rad pad", regardless of *when* it was built. Putting 60's furniture in it still doesn't make it a "typical" 60s home. But still interesting, I have to admit.
