I purchased a couple of lemongrass stubs in the herb section at my grocery store, used one in a recipe and put the other one in a glass of water, it put out roots so planted it and I now have a big lemongrass plant growing in a pot, since this past spring.

@@PREPSTEADERS You're welcome. I have always thought of what the Bible says about Jesus being the vine and we are the branches. He prunes "old growth" from our lives so new growth can produce fruit. Some years when I prune a grape vine in the depth of winter, it looks like I have killed the plant. But, come spring and summer the vine flourishes and produces lots of fruit. That's how God works in our life. Sometimes we go through difficult times, only to come through the trial producing more fruit for the Kingdom of God than we had in a while! HE is faithful and true!

How inspiring. I'm seeing these are the times that many have woken up to the importance of being self reliant in something.. You don't have to be independent in everything, but have something that you can produce on your own... With the grace of God, of course😊. Blessing to all who are thriving through these times. Praise Jesus for our willingness to grow and share!

I have a horticulturist friend who told me you should never plant peppers close to tomatoes. Apparently the tomatoes give off something that inhibits the peppers from producing much fruit. ( doesn’t hurt the tomatoes)

What a wonderful garden and beautiful music! Blossom end rot is caused by calcium being unavailable to the plant. It might be caused by lack of calcium in the soil, but more often it's caused by a mineral imbalance where the plant can't access available calcium or even more likely irregular watering.

Sweet potato leaves. Great recipe from Off Grid with Doug and Stacy: Saute red onions in ghee, in a cast iron skillet. (about 5 min) Soak leaves in water to soften. (Pick the darkest leaves.) Add several garlic cloves, stir and add about 2-3T maple syrup, then add about 2T apple cider vinegar, 1 t salt; can add red pepper flakes if you want spice. Pile your leaves in pan and turn off heat. The cast iron will continue to cook the greens. Yum!

Tip from Charles Dowding in England. He has hardly any weeds as he puts down cardboard yes and then puts compost on top about 8 in high then plant right away. Cardboard will kill grass just mow it short before CB is put down and in time it kills grass as well as decenigrates itself. Potatoes need a little more dept but no tilling no tractor either needed.

Often perspective makes a big difference. To me, your yard is Big and beautiful and I would love to have that much dirt lol... i love how you guys have utilized every inch of space... i live in an apartment with a small concrete patio. I have grown a few things in pots last couple years but this year I'm stepping up my game and trying to make myself an urban jungle, building bigger and thrifty planters lol bigger depth of earth for less money.... couldn't you throw some clorox in down the pipe to clean the water and kill the algae? Just an idea... i also have a bank out past the fence overgrown with kudzu amd have been researching as I've harvested roots. Everything but the vines is edible and the flowers can be used to make jelly. I'm trying that this year. Most people i see boil the leaves and then saute them. Younger leaves supposed to be better. God bless and thanks for sharing your garden and your music!

@kathleenschaefer82084 жыл бұрын
John Brown I've become a big fan of apple cider vinegar. I use it with eggs as a condiment/sauce. Also with beef and pork. With fish, lemon and lime are well known and are also used with salads and side dishes. Sour krout or any pickled vegetable can "brighten" the flavor and "cut the grease". Vinegar and an oil is the base of many salad dressings... Just some possibilities. :-). My spices are sections for blends from different cuisines. Like one for curry, one for sriracha, and one for Italian, those are my favorites... Oh and if it is a roast my grammo taught me to create slivers out of a garlic clove and using a paring knife cut/poke holes in the top of the roast and push the garlic slivers in. Then add salt pepper Italian seasoning and a little (1/2-1") water, cover , and cook in the oven for three hours at about 250*. Comes out tender moist and tasty... Slice across the grain.

David, you are correct. In real life, with friends we talk back and forth and over top here and there and there is grace between us to cover it. On camera it appears especially rude. I was also nervous as I wanted to keep the pace moving, be responsive to my friends, and show as much as we could of their delightful yard. I would love to re-shoot with a calm presence and quietness as she speaks, but I cannot afford that expense, so I pray over all the mistakes in these videos and let go of it hoping viewers will be patient with me, and at least appreciate the content that they find helpful.
