This 197.5 km stage was the first to enter the Pyrenees.
It was a big battle among the GC favourits.
A young Michael Rasmussen attacked early on.
Carlos Sastre, Ivan Basso and Lance Armstrong were fighting for victory, while other big names lost time.

Armstrong didn't invent Doping!!! He was simply the Strongest! Especially if you arrived with him he let you win! Low great talent could have won at least 2 Tours de France and more!!! But that dog's name!!! Did the others, starting from our former World and Olympic Champion, go on bread and water? From a simple Gregario he transformed into a Phenomenon even if he didn't excite me! Basso demonstrated after the return that he could win again in the Giro but not even the first goal was working!! Contador Same great Phenomenon, yes he was emotional but after returning from disqualification he too looked like someone else! I want to launch a Provocation since Doping is always 2 steps ahead I would remove it!! But then there would be Runners who could afford Treatments that others couldn't afford! You can't get out of a casino! What makes me smile most are the journalists, everyone knows, but when they catch someone they fall from the Pero

Il Doping non lo ha inventato Armstrong!!! Era semplicemente il piu Forte! Soprattutto se arrivavi con lui ti lasciava Vincere! Basso gran Talento avrebbe potuto vincere almeno 2 Tour de France e non Solo!!! Ma quel nome del suo Cane!!! Gli altri a partire dal nostro ex Campione del Mondo e Olimpico andava a pane e Acqua? Da semplice Gregario si trasformò in un Fenomeno anche se a me non emozionava! Basso ha dimostrato dopo il Rientro si di Rivincere in Giro ma non andava nemmeno la Meta di Prima!! Contador Uguale grande Fenomeno lui si che Emozionava ma rientrato dalla Squalifica anche lui sembrava un’altro! voglio lanciare una Provocazione visto che il Doping è sempre 2 passi Avanti lo toglierei!! Pero’ dopo ci sarebbero Corridori che si potrebbero permettersi Cure che altri non si potrebbero permettere! Un Casino non se ne Esce!
