Giro D'Italia 2022 is now on fire with Mathieu Van der Poel and Simon Yates fighting for the pink jersey in the Tour of Italy. But in the past, other Giro D'Italia were amazing, like 2006 Giro D'Italia with the biggest doped in cycling history, Ivan Basso as known as Birillo by Eufemiano Fuentes. Know their story.

I really enjoy your videos, albeit the tone is sometimes not to my taste, but thats not really the point. Im curios as to were you get some of the claims you present during the videos. Like how Riis told Basso to slow down during the TT. I've looked around a bit online, and simply cannot seem to locate that quote anywhere. Or is it simply stated with an sarcastic undertone, that I cannot point out? ;) Keep up the good work. Like I said, really enjoy watching your work.

Contrary to your assertion, I think we have VERY LITTLE CLEAR IDEA of the PED/blood-doping use of "his competitors" since much of that was not tested as it would only embarrass cycling [even more], and the investigations that were done shielded identifications for the most part. I will admit, relative to other riders of the 90's and 00's, he was likely not amongst the worst.

56 km hr time trial, good luck in Canada, specially the Southern Ontario regions with 35 km hr head winds and 20 km cross winds for months on end in the summer. Only in Europe can you get these speeds, less air pressure and barely any wind in Southern Europe. Cycled there as a youth and it's laughable compared to cycling here, you are literally climbing but sitting down here every second of a 100km ride due to the winds around the lakes.

@@GerNiels I would compare this area to the flats of the Netherlands identical and brutal. Britain also has these weird head and cross winds combined. We run our road bikes here with a 1x10 setup, nothing to climb here for 200km, see the one chainring setup more often now. Never seen anyone on a 53/11 ever, it’s not just the head winds it’s the mass air pressure you have to move out of the way, we can’t use 60mm wheels here either too dangerous. Basically we are cross cycling on open roads here, oh well it is what it is so we setup our bikes gearing to help us in these windy lake areas. When we reach 40km hr our bodies are blown back with this massive air pressure here at the lower points. I use the Wind finder app in order to map out the best routes these days.

Oh gosh, this video is between Terrible, Artificial coming up with an alternative history and clearly having lack of Context. Aside from the fact that Google Translate and "Italian listening" is an available function (please use it, because it's the 7th video you use Spanish pronunciation for Italian names and it's so terribly wrong and awful to hear). BiriLLo was indeed the name given by Fuentes, but during the Trial, he (and he's a spanish dude) said BiriLLo with the Italian pronounciation of L, not with the spanish. Birillo in fact means Pin, and it was a nickname from his upcoming newborn child. Getting to facts and opinions: OK, Basso ended up in being part of Operaccion Puerto (spanish pronounciation), which nobody disputes Thou, you hyperstated what actually Cunego and Simoni were in Giro 2006. To all of the commentators: this video focuses in Giro 2006. Not 2009, not 2005. Google is there also for you to check. 2005 Giro was won by Savoldelli (his 2nd, 1st with Discovery jersey) and 2009 by Menchov. Cunego always has been, a rider who should have been more focusing on Classics. He stated himself in an interview when he retired with a bit of regret, also comparing himself to Ballan. He just got galvanized by winning the 2004 Giro when Simoni basically was dead and he had not bigger rivals other than Popovych and Honchar You call out on "getting humiliated by Simoni", while forgetting that in 2002 he lied to the Press by saying "he took a colombian tea" in order to fake out the fact he got high hematocrite and probably took EPO, and completely forgetting that Simoni in italian public opinion (which you clearly have NO ABSOLUTE CLUE at all) was always seen as 50% loved and 50% hated, no grey zone in between. Lastly and most importantly, a big highlight on how poorly you know about Italian cycling and context, enough that you finished your video with the right ending, but not the most interesting part of the Basso-Simoni feud: EVERY SINGLE ITALIAN FAN, remembers that Aprica 2006 stage with Simoni, not because Basso was clearly in better shape than Simoni ever was... ...but most and foremost because in the after-race interview - in ITALIAN which I guess not only you are not able to pronounce and definitely NOT to understand - where Simoni, in front of RAI Cameras said "Basso, shall we tell them the figure for having me allowed to let you win, for your son? " with Basso basically making a huge poker face and saying "he doesn't know how to win so he needs to come up with excuses" Please dude, come up with some Italian giving you context and knowledge, otherwise you seem to be just like a Hater, saying "everyone was doped" and "rider A-B-C deserved more" while completely missing 70% of the context, and giving an extremely PARTIAL and totally biased opinion which never stands in the eye of an expert
@cyclingstories
@cyclingstories 2 жыл бұрын
Cunego in 2006 were not 100% focused on classics, later, of course, yep. One of his principal objectives that year was Giro d'Italia. He was in very good shape that year. He wasn't a Maurizio Fondriest or Moreno Argentin on that Giro. We will talk about Simoni in 2002 Giro and his positive. Not problem about that. Simoni also was in Saunier in 2006. If Birillo humilliates him, that talks more about Basso than Simoni's. We don't talk about Full Basso and Simoni''s story, that's true. But our intention is to resume Birillo's performance in 2006 Giro. That comment adds some extra things and that's good. It isn't partial, we didn't defend Simoni. We talk about the outer space performance of Birillo, that's the focus in the vid. Ah, in pronunciation terms, don't be mad about that.
