Speaking of people being compartmentalized, my grandmother would go visiting, every so often. She would walk to various neighbor's house and sit on the porch and visit with them and the neighbors would do the same. People now days would have probably never heard of such a thing. Going visiting was just part of peoples regular routine years ago.

I’m from WV & this is very true. Neighbors would visit & check in on each other all of the time. This was before the internet though.

@@trinasyoutube-My family of both sides, were WV born & raised-Belle for my Dad, whose father owned the Grocery Store their & was a butcher,& Charleston for my Mom. My best memories live in WV, up on Byus Drive, with my Great Grands, Grands, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, neighbors,& friends!!! My Great Grand was William A. Byus Sr aka The Country Preacher-a couple who was celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary, made the newspapers some years back, & lovingly stated that he was who had married them all those years back!🥰My grandfather, went to a Florida College for ministry,& brought Billy Graham home for break! Grandpa Byus spent many an hour with him, & Billy stated he hoped he could be as good a man & preacher as my Grandpa-I think he exceeded even His wildest of dreams!!!😂 Holidays were pull out all the stops & decorations, with everything so festive, including paper wraparounds of Santa Claus at Christmas for lamps,& bunting of RW&B for the 4th of July. My Uncle had planted some peach trees on The Hill, with the first to ripen for the 4th the next year,& we put it into our old crank ice cream maker, that we all took turns at-Best & Never matched ice cream of my lifetime!!! Croquet & Horseshoes were the games, that everyone gathered to play-I was Wicked at Croquet!!! The regulation horseshoe pit, & heavy horseshoes were a bit too much for me back when-can’t be great at Everything!!!😂And I spent hours staring at the Biggest Mimosa tree when it was in bloom-Hundreds of hummingbirds buzzing it,& feeding! I always got sick like clockwork then-I later found out I’m super allergic to that tree!!!🫣🙄 Papa(my Grand) was ill all the time I’d known him-pancreatitis being the biggest issue, that he’d come to Virginia(where we moved to) to be a Guinea pig for MCV Medical Center for 6 weeks stays. They always gave him a suite that was more hotel like,& we’d go stay with him on weekends there-it was fun for me & my brother!!! My Grands took us All kinds of places in different states in the summers, & we just had sooo much fun, as well as learning things!!! Papa kept a huge garden, & Uncle Cook, who worked for DuPont, would test new concoctions out on the bugs, as well as fertilizers-Him & GOD only know what the H he sprayed-all of which he was told was perfectly Safe, of course.🤬We all know better today!!!

Yeah, do that today and they'd probably call the cops when they see ya walking up their path! I'm originally from NY- 60 miles east of NYC, and even there, when I was a kid in the 60's and early 70's, we'd sit under a shade tree with the downstairs neighbor...and our families and friends all knew each other (My now 99 year-old mother is still in touch with the neighbor's niece who is now 80 years old...they've been good friends for 50 years now, and even though we've now lived in KY for over two decades). Now, people don't want to be bothered if they can't just send a text...disgusting!

My great Gran would drag me along wherever she went visiting. I loved it, except for the wakes, where the body was laid out in the parlor. As a little girl, I found it frightening.

Loved the tour of the house. What gorgeous wood the walls were built from. So sad to see these iconic structures deteriorate

LOVE this! Enjoyed hearing the stories about this house that I have seen all my life...the Highway 16 gateway to the mountains. I especially enjoyed the recreation map of the outbuildings, barn, etc.

🤩 What a great story & video! I truly am grateful 🙏 to have come across this! I don't know 🤷‍♀️ ANYTHING about houses 🏘️ or repairs but from what i saw 👀 that is an amazing house 🏡 in great shape! The roof looked good ... no eyeballing damage ... & the "paneling" on the walls ... gorgeous 😮!!! 🙏❤️‍🩹🙏

Man what I would give to have a family home passed down to me… I would renovate it to its original state, except I’d add a bathroom.
