I had an old truck tire I put into the coop for the babies to play on and this spring I put some straw in it and now they love laying in it. I also had a cherry lug sitting outside the coop so I put it in the run and also put straw in it and they love laying their eggs in that. I used a small pool in my coop for a winter dusting area and they loved it. By the time spring came around it was almost empty from all the bathing. Love having chicken, each have their own personalities and that makes me smile when I call and they all come running.

Hahaha, that pic of you in chicken drag--I can't wait for your book! Please, don't sound so apologetic about your deluxe new spread. We know that you've forged your chops re: raising birds with limited space/means. Hell, we saw you *living it* when the whole of Chickenlandia was packed into your suburban sideyard! So enough with the guilt. On with the JOY! Dustbaths are such a must, both for hygiene and for your chicken's serenity of mind. The waterproof dustbath I improvised is proving a great success! Even when I covered it up, their dustpit kept getting soaked by rainwater wicking through the soil. I tried digging a big pit lined with a shower curtain, but the birds kept tearing it up, and their manicured moondust still turned into mud gravy. Then I got an idea: I'd heisted two long under-the-bed storage tubs from the neighbor's trashpile, and wondered if it would work if I dug out a hole big enough to sink one into the ground with the rim a couple inches above ground level. The soil was rocky as hell, but at least I harvested a buncha stones to pave part of the garden. Before I planted the tub, I patched some cracks where a roller wheel had snapped off and sealed it with a coating of hot glue to be sure it was watertight. And it's worked great! The tubs didn't have their fitted plastic covers, so I cover it with the other tub when rain threatens. And despite the worst Georgia thunderstorms, it's stayed dry--while providing a spa treatment for three big, sprawled-out hens at a time!

@@WelcometoChickenlandia They love it! There's no fighting over space anymore. Now, if I can just get Squatch to shake off all the dust in the yard... I thought this spring was awful for pollen till she sauntered into the kitchen, shook herself out, and made a cloud like Pigpen in "Peanuts"!

Hello President of Chickenlandia! They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I want to turn a piece of my yard, 65'x51', into exactly your fenced in area of Chickenlandia. I have 6 chickens now and next year or 2 I plan to grow to 9, that's the max I've gotten hubs to agree to. I work from home and let them free range but of course I can't be outside with them all day... weekends you can find me with my kids aka chickens. Saturday a man in the neighborhood was running with his dog lab/pit bull mix off leash. His dog ran up my driveway and attacked my kids, I was in earshot but the attack wasn't visible to me. My girl Majesty a beautiful lavender orpington and I were truly blessed in that she wasn't badly hurt, amazing I know. The dog got her by her breast feathers only, which she now has none, but that's all she lost, so thankful!! Everyone has told me, I have to get okay with the idea I'm going to lose some birds if I free range. I can't accept that, so...I'm re-purposing my front yard! I'm showing my hubs your fenced in area and hoping he can figure out what you did. If you see this comment and can tell me what you told your builder or how your structure is comprised, I would be most grateful. I have watched many of your videos, my neighbor as well and she has your book ☺ thank you for your contributions, you have helped me immensely as I've only had my kids for 1 year. Warmly, Kim
