Hi neighbor! I am in West Melbourne. I really enjoyed finding a local gardener near me. I myself have been gardening for a few years now. Last year we took a break and this year we are heading to a massive chaos garden. In the past, my chaos gardens worked extremely well but chaotic and I had mixed feelings about it, but I decided that I want to use every seat I have and go big. I look forward to following you more. :)

Hi, I’m in Palm Bay and I love gardening. I’m trying to get really good at growing strawberries. Have you tried to over winter your strawberry plants in a refrigerator to use the following year?

@ hello! No, I have not tried to do that.. it’s a cool idea though! I’m growing Florida brilliance right now and they’re struggling a little but I think it’s mostly because I planted them in a brand new garden tower and the soil is settling and sometimes it’s falling on top of the crowns and killing them

I'm also in Melbourne and didn't realize Bok Choy grew so great in ground. I've grown them a couple of times using the Kratky hydroponics method. I'm going to try growing Daikon once I eventually get a raised garden bed. Looking forward to see how well your garlic does.

Jen; Glad to see that you're having such a successful harvest. I alway makes me sad when you struggle. I'll bet your hubby is looking forward to some collard greens. Your fig tree is looking good. Just remember to pour the water to it especially during the dry and hot times. I learned that from Travis (Lazy Dog Farm). I planted a brown turkey fig about five years ago got it from the Florida Folk Festival. It took about three years to really produce, mainly because I hadn't been watering it properly . I also have two LSU fig trees one from Lazy Dog Farm and one from Sweet Bay Nursery in Parrish a Florida native plant nursery. Currently they both have figs on them. I like the taste of the brown turkey figs better. We harvested collards Sunday and had them Monday umm good. I really enjoyed the video and what a variety of vegetables, I'm impressed . Thanks again,.

I may have to try my tomatoes again in the spring. I think this hot and then cold and then hot again weather is causing them to not produce. I grew baby dutch yellow potatoes and sweet potatoes last year and loved growing both. I'm going to plant Yukon Gold in the next couple weeks. I have the seed potatoes sitting in a window sill, waiting for the sprouts to get just a little bit bigger before planting them

My tomatoes haven’t produced a single tomato! They’re huge and I’ll see flowers, but no tomatoes yet. I’m not seeing a lot of bugs around, even though I haven’t sprayed a single pesticide this season. Maybe that’s why? Or maybe they’re not quite ready?

Each of my Crimson Sprinters have 60+, Stupice 40, Porter30, Money Maker, Big Beef Plus, Celebrity and Better Bush all have 12/15. Disease and pests are nonexistent. Most beautiful plants I have ever grown.

Hi Jen, you should be proud of your garden. All the hard work and design thought you put into it is paying off handsomely for you. Aww thank you for trying to give me a shout out! I am pretty proud of it, it is so fun to try to beautify the backyard while also giving it function. I've got big plans for some backyard and side yard transformation in 2025. I'm just trying to decide if I have the confidence to try DIY pavers or not, lol. I will do the camo painting soon! The white buckets really stand out too much

I'm surprised you even own "winter wear (get rid of that Jags hat and get a great looking CHIEFS hat)." And by "cold front on Thursday" you mean 75F. Raw radish and beet greens are great in a salad. I will be interested to see how your Cherokee Purple tomato does. Those are supposed to have wonderful flavor. Also interested in those golden beets. My fall planting was a bust. We went from 90s to below freezing in 2 weeks. The beets and carrots are still in the beds, but mostly just tops. The radishes were good, but those watermelon radishes followed Fernando Llamas advice: Better to look good than to taste good. Your winter garden looks great Jenn! THANKS for this video! Stay warm!!
@SpaceCoastHarvest
@SpaceCoastHarvest Ай бұрын
haha I'm a wimp about cold weather and I'll wear a big coat when it's like 50 degrees, lol. I bought that hat at the one and only Jags game I ever went to because it was so unexpectedly cold that day. I don't even watch their games! Weather has been weird for everyone over the past few months I feel like. Hurricanes doing lots damage far more inland than normal, and then it stayed hot so long and now our weather is up and down every other day. I think it's affecting my crops. My tomatoes have been flowering but I haven't seen a single tomato on either variety I planted. I may have to try again with them in the springtime. Hope the winter isn't too bad for you up in Kansas!

@@SpaceCoastHarvest Most of my neighbors who planted tomatoes this summer had the same problem. Lots of flowers, but none set to fruit. But later in the summer when it cooled down and we finally got some rain, they had lots of tomatoes. Very strange. I couldn't even get my tomato plants past the first 2 leaf stage. They didn't die. They just stopped growing. I get my tomatoes out of a Cento San Marzano can!

Girl, let me just tell you I am truly impressed at your harvest. I treated myself for Christmas and bought a birdies raised bed. I haven’t received it yet, but I think my vegetables will do better there than in the grow bags. Are those solar lights that you have on your raised bed?

When did you plant your southern Georgia Collards? Did you start indoors?
@SpaceCoastHarvest
@SpaceCoastHarvest Ай бұрын
I started them from seed indoors with a grow light in about mid-September. I may harvest and cook them this weekend :-) I started them indoors at the time because it was still so hot out and I didn't want to risk them bolting. I may plant some more next week and I will probably direct sow them since the temperatures are much cooler.

Your veggies look so healthy and unbothered. How do you keep animals and bugs away? Or have you just been lucky?
@SpaceCoastHarvest
@SpaceCoastHarvest Ай бұрын
I have been pretty lucky about bugs and diseases this season and I'm not quite sure why. I haven't even seen the little caterpillars I normally see and so I haven't even sprayed Bt. I did notice some evidence of something chewing leaves, but it seemed bigger than the tiny melonworm damage, so I sprinkled diatomaceous earth on top of the soil everywhere. That's really the only thing I've done to prevent/treat bugs or disease this whole season. I don't get many critters or large animals, probably because I'm in the suburbs in a fenced in yard and the raised beds are 17" high. I started the season with a LOT of compost, powdered eggshells, wood ash, and crab meal in all of the raised beds. At some points, I noticed discoloring of the leaves so I tried some different fertilizers thinking it was an iron deficiency. It seems to have fixed the discoloring of the leaves for sure, and maybe that improved the plants' resilience. I

How is ur basil plant still alive? Mine turned brown black after a few nights in very low 30’s😢
@SpaceCoastHarvest
@SpaceCoastHarvest Ай бұрын
I just checked it again this morning and no sign of black tips, but I think it's related to how densely packed in they are. There are like 6 basil plants surrounding a tomato with a big cabbage on one side too. I think it's insulating it a little! We also haven't hit 30s, we've only gotten as low as 43

Note to self... the next time I plant an 8" tube worm condo, put a mole barrier on the bottom. I dug it up today to check it out and found that a mole had dug under the 24" tube, got into it and ate all but one of my worms! Does the school of hard knocks gardening education ever end?
