First thing I noticed is that crew is exceptionally tidy and clean and minimalist. This boat is a rocket but require special kind of people (who are ok without bathtub in their boat). Interior headroom is amazing, I think its great combo of speed and comfort.

Great boat, love the simplicity. Out of interest, do you have something more too hold those food jars on the shelf when at sea?
@TrimaranSpiritXL4 жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙏 the jars are only held in place with the small dyneema string. We’ve never had any issues over the fives years since we installed the shelves.

So you must have a nice easy motion, guess you weren’t racing. I had a small cat, made my way upwind in a F7 with a tumbler of water holding some wildflowers sitting on a smooth table, no fiddles, did not even move, though I was going as slow as I could, still making good way. On a mono they would have gone flying on the first decent wave.

Great boat! It is interesting to see that you have a Thermomix onboard. Can you share your experience?
@TrimaranSpiritXL4 жыл бұрын
Catamaran Scout thanks for the message. We’ve been running off 100% solar since 2015. We have 500 watts of solar that’s connected to a 320Ah lithium battery bank. The Thermomix runs via our 2000w inverter and it works a treat. We’ve never had an issue with the onboard power or thermomix since installing it in 2015. The choice of a Thermomix was due to the efficiency of it and the way it can cook many things at once. If you’re wanting an efficient system and to run off solar we highly recommend it 😊

Love the idea of converting a race boat to a minimalist tri. I see it is for sale though which is sad how come? Whats on the horizon for you guys?
@TrimaranSpiritXL5 жыл бұрын
2soccerfreak2 thanks it’s definitely worked out well for us onboard. I’ve had Spirit since 2010 and even though we love her to bits and our lives are made incredibly easy by the simplicity of her design we’d like to be able to have other people join us onboard and this as her only limiting factor. So a while ago we thought we’d put her on the market and just see where it takes us. So far we’re still cruising and slowly heading towards Australia and the Pacific again. Who knows what the future holds 😁

love your boat! one more subscribed! Which model is this trimaran? who build it? looks like made of wood is it? I'm looking for one... you have a great boat! how it goes about speed in low wind conditions?
@thebentley714 жыл бұрын
What a really nice simplistic trimaran mate. Did you build it yourself. Nothing better than marine plywood, some good heavy fiberglass cloth, the heavier the better. I use to build small rc boats. I would use kevlar fiber, & the rolls were not much more expensive, than fiberglass rolls. The epoxy west system to me is the best. The only thing better than fiberglass & marine grade wood, would be thick aluminium, but it's really expensive. If I had the money I would buy or build a nice SWATH (small waterline area twin hull) sailboat, powered by a helical vertical axis turbine attached to a saildrive with 3 forward gear ratios, neutral, & reverse. I would also have a couple of vertical axis helical turbines to make electricity, along with several solar panels covering the entire roof & maybe a couple on the dingy davits. I would also have a couple of good hydro generators for when sailing, & a huge lithium-ion battery bank to store all the energy. A very good water maker that could produce between 20-50 gallons of water a day. No diesel or propane on board. I also heard they have great solar pits that work great on sunny days. I really & truly wish I would of known more about sailboats as a teenager & young adult, I would have lived my entire life on the ocean exploring the world. Also the SWATH boats do not roll or porpoise up & down because the hulls are about 4 ft beneath the surface of the water, & the smart thing is to build your platform & living quaters as high as possible without making the vessel top heavy, so when rough, high seas arrive, they pose no threat because your vessel is similar to a jackup oil rig. Peace & Love.

Am I missing something, but I didn't see any kiond of toilet facility, not even a bucket. I carried a Porta-potty on my yachts, to avoid the possibility of a leaking through-hull, while also providing a minimalistic holding tank when necessary. Space needed was not much more than for a bucket.
@TrimaranSpiritXL6 жыл бұрын
Tony Stott great idea we also had a Porta-Potty whey we came through the Panama Canal in 2011 but found we rarely used it. We’re in the hunt presently for a new one 😊

Very well organized but some questions. 1. Most people pee and poop. Dont you have a toilet? 2. Where do you sleep? The beds you showed were 2 singles. Are you not a couple? 3. Do you have a laundry machine? How to wash clothes? 4. Where do you wash/shower? Cheers
@TrimaranSpiritXL6 жыл бұрын
Magnus B good questions. Firstly we pee and poo the same as everyone else in the ocean with a bucket. If we are close to shore we use toilets ashore if we can. We use the exterior bed when we can but have decided a free and easy lifestyle has its compromises and ones not always sleeping side by side. We’re ok with that but in the future that may change? We don’t wear clothes at sea so have very little laundry, when near populated areas we use laundry services ashore. And we shower on the aft deck or in marinas occasionally. Makes you appreciate a long hot shower! 😁 if you want to live simply you have to find your balance and at the moment this is ours. Glad you enjoyed the tour 👍
@magnusb63116 жыл бұрын
@@TrimaranSpiritXL Thank you for your reply. I do think there was some humor to my questions. OK, so is that a separate bucket? How do you differentiate between a regular use buckets and bucket used for fekals? Colorcode? I thought so, would not want to separate myself from my love like that but I do understand the compromise to live a free lifestyle. Laundry - OK I have seen alot of people cruising are using laundry services. At the same time Laundrymats and alike are slowly disappearing over the world. You may find them where you are now, and in America. In Europe I dont know the last time I seen a laundrymat or similar, well, I seen one in England last year but in the rest of Europe I dont know. In Sweden we probably lost the last one like 20 years ago, unless one wants to use the drycleaner. I dont know what your plan is to take you next but I would put it on your list when planning new destinations to check if there is self-washing services there. Aft deck washing - cool. Will you always stay in tropical waters?
