This is true but before this temple is completed the whole of the inside will be gutted and rebuilt from scratch. Went to a greek orthodox church as i was wanted to be apart of Orthodoxy and had been interested into it due to my research and was extremely nervous especially with all where greeks so felt so out of place with all the eye staring But the father at the church i was disappointed with due to his less of engagement at the end of the service when talking to him seemed like he just wanted to go home. Perhaps i shall try again. 🇬🇧
@ArchimandritePhilip Жыл бұрын
That is a pity. Usually you'll find that people are very open to having "strangers" turn up. Perhaps try another church next time. Some places are very geared to being Chaplaincies to a particular national group and have little or no idea what do do when someone from the locality turns up. It's a pity thiswas your first experience. God bless you!

@ArchimandritePhilip Жыл бұрын
Just dress modestly and don't worry if you're the only person who turns up "on time" as people will turn up throughout the service. It's worth checking if the church is a parish or an ethnic chaplaincy as although a chaplaincy will be very welcoming it's likely they won't have a clue how to help you. God bless you!

Why must living and dead non orthodox be declared for the divine liturgy?
@ArchimandritePhilip5 күн бұрын
@TheDb2450 the way the prayers are done it is assumed that they are for Orthodox Christian Communicants. For the others we still lovingly pray for them but they themselves would deny that they are communicants.

@@Vladimir82623 OK well that means we are the latter. (The Church building is on the point of being bought). I have two other missions currently and another in the pipeline. The one has a long long term lease on a building and the option to buy another one. The second is much more just getting on its feet. They use a building and need to go looking for another. This second one has the possibility of having its own clergy the first one might get a priest but one needs to be found. The church in the video: they have me and a deacon, there are several potential future clergy in the pipeline... so I wonder if that answers your question? Your prayers! I’ve only very recently heard of orthodox Christianity - I’m confused with all the icons and idolatry? All those distractions away from Jesus Christ - is it a blend of Catholicism? I’d heard it was the original church from Jesus Christ? I was hoping it would be the church for me - but seeing all the icons has really really put me off - sadly 🙏

@@lianborgiademedici1016 can you put More Context or examples of this - are You catholiclic. ? I really don’t mind if you are - I’d just like to learn - the Bible I read says the only way to God is through Jesus his son and the Holy Spirit ? I don’t comprehend how Mary becomes another different route that’s not said in the bible ?? And does this cancel out Jesus and the Holy Spirit? Or do catholics not believe in the Holy Spirit and just on saints and visions and icons - I do feel close to st Francis of assis - very confused / if you could shed any light for me - desperately wanting to be baptised but no idea which church 🙏✝️📖🕊️📿

Word icon means "window" to heaven. Oral traditions of church believes that Apostle Luke drew 4 icons and one of them was of mother Marry. Icons are not idols because we dont worship icons or treat them as gods, they are important objects to represent saints and help to make intercession prayers with them. Orthodox church does not believe that saints are "dead" we believe saints are in heaven they are alive and can hear our prayers. Their stories are also inspiring and they give us an example how to get closer to christ because each saint had different path in life and we can learn a lot from them.
@jaroslavkusl.10496 ай бұрын
@@juneduffy4502to understand why mother Mary is so venerated in orthodox church, thats has to do with jewish history too, as you know, someone is classified as a Jew only by being born from mother's side. Mothers are very important in Jewish culture because they are responsible for passing down traditions to the children, old testament also refers to respecting parents and even honoring them (after their death). Venerating mother marry is obligatory because she bore literal son of God, which why she received title theotokos (mother of God)
