Tour of BYD's Changsha Factory

Thank you for the video. I used to work in General Motors' Holden Vehicle Operations, Elizabeth (South Australia) plant which closed 7 years ago. Whilst I can see many similarities in equipment, automation and process I am thoroughly impressed with the sheer scale of this place. I now have a BYD Seal in my garage along with my final and limited edition Holden SSV MSE 6.2L V8 -- two fantastic vehicles.

It's impossible not to be impressed with how clean and uncluttered the factory appears to be. Back in the early 70's I spent about 6-months working in the GMH Dandenong plant. It was dark, incredibly noisy, very cluttered and quite grubby - we literally fixed the imperfections with hammers and blocks of plastic. The contrast with this is astonishing - the green paint on the floors is almost as shiny as the car ducos.

I am retired now but I was an engineering factory worker (manufacturing technician) in the UK...and what I feel really interested in, is what life is like for the 'workers' in the factories...I would love to think that not only are the factories far more advanced and improved but so are the working conditions and the lives of the people who do the work. I don't want to think they are experiencing longer working hours and even less of an enjoyable life than I did. (factory work is no fun) ..I am always caring, not so much about the technology and products, but about the lives of the human workers getting better.

The darkened factory floor reflects automation. Machines do not need lighting like we do. Many machines use localised infrared light/sensors for their work. No need for peripheral vision lighting like humans to move around as most on assembly lines are stationary in position. So the areas with bright lights usually indicate human operator involvement.

I hope you understand me. Please write back if you have any questions. I have a friend who bought a used atto 3 14 days ago, it is from 2022, he is very happy with it, he says that electricity is the way forward. I have also tried to drive it.. super nice car. beautiful design. It drives very well on the country road and motorway, but there it uses a lot of power. I would like one myself, but unfortunately there are some downsides to it and it can't yet do the things I want in a car, especially driving with a trailer. He has problems with misting on all the windows, the fans make a lot of noise and use a lot of electricity to demist. can windows be put in with hot wires? It is not so good at creating heat in the cabin, so you can sit and freeze. For me, it is not strong enough for a trailer, there are many who live outside the cities who need a trailer to drive garden waste away. I don't see any problems with the car.. but wondering if it can be solved in a good way, so that all BYD owners get the best out of their beautiful car I hope that navigation will come in Danish as well as Android auto and Apple carplay. If BYD could talk get connected with an electrical stand or another BYD car as well as a kind of screen where BYD can "see" things and people around your car when the weather is bad or foggy, I have seen such a screen in another electric car. I want to believe that if some of these things and the wishes of the Danes are heard, it will be the best car for the country. And then I would like to have an atto 3 myself in the future.

I thought the Changsha factory made only those DM models (hybrids) but maybe they make the pure EVs too. This must be one of the older factories that the boss was complaining about in one point. Too many people working there and a bit difficult to change the layout to a modern car factory.

Ev’s don’t save the planet they need electricity which is produced by coal and the batteries are produced from filthy materials which are very dangerous to humans and the size of this factory the amount of CO2 from electricity to operate all the machinery it’s not green… how can anyone believe that EV is going to save the planet is beyond me?

interesting darkened factory explanation just like i am using the Dreame V16s vacuum cleaner. It works better for me to see the dust with the 'green' infrared light' shooting out from the motorised brush comparing to white bright environment.

The line of stamping machines was a good comparison to the Gigacast process. When you consider each major part needs 1 of those machines, then finishing, then welding to other parts, you can appreciate the Tesla logic. 1 casting, then (probably) 2-3 minutes on a CNC mill for mating faces, bolt holes, etc. The space and energy savings alone should be considerable.

Great tour to see a lot of stuff that we don't get to see every day. However, your cameraman really needs to know what he's doing with the camera. No point using a mirrorless here in this situation when so much footages were marred... could have just used an iPhone to shoot the entire tour instead.
